I just registered a complaint with the CPSC over the false claims on the Sig Sauer ammunition.

I did this after calling them.
Their 124gr 9mm claims 443 ft-lbs of energy but is 374 ft-lbs of energy.

When I called them they said they knew about it 3 months ago but decided to ship out the mislabeled boxes anyway to move through them. People are buying this ammo based on false information that Sig Knows is false. They are willfully defrauding you.

Good job op
>>
>>31757040
You are the hero this planet deserves, now you should put that ammo in your butthole.
>>
>>31757040
Sweet, looks like the price of 124gr 9mm ammo is gonna drop.

Thanks OP!

This is the ammo in question.
Also I've decided to sell my Legion, it started showing wear after just 200 rounds and had blemishes in the finish anyway.
What should I get?

Honestly I'd rather have a high point than a Sig, they have the ethical value of Hillary Clinton.

Acetone
Took some finish off the slide too, gave it a nice patina look.

Much better gun than dishonest Sig.
>>
>>31759935
Did you just let it sit in an acetone bath?
>>
>>31757068
Why didn't you save a few hundred bucks and get the Mk25? It's literally better
>>
>>31760031
No, I used an AR toothbrush and almost 3 hours.

>>31760078
The 938 I owned was one of a plethora that had problems. It was a terrible gun, the 229 was a nice shooter but the rails were aluminum and you have to keep expensive good grease on them for it to not eat itself alive in a short time.
Really nice shooting gun but I don't see how the mk25 would have been better.

The stainless elite is the only one I would even consider if I ever got another sig which I'm not planning to.
>>
>>31760233
Fug I'm trying strip my upper but I wanna be lazy. You did a great job tho
>>
>>31760313
It wiped off the slide almost instantaneously.
The textured stippling was the biggest bitch.
The nooks and crannies were annoying.
The flat spots on the frame also required a lot more scrubbing than you'd think.
However, what I'm saying, the slide took like 4 minutes. The frame took the rest of the time.

What a waste of your time.

Should have just asked Sig to refund you or give you some free ammo.

Not the OP, but the numbers are on the box here: >>31757068 and there's a calculator here:
http://www.pyramydair.com/article/What_is_Muzzle_Energy_August_2003/5

Run the numbers for yourself, he's right. A 124 grain bullet would have to be traveling at 1268 fps or about 100 fps faster to achieve the claimed 443 ft lbs of energy. It's really surprising that Sig managed to fuck something like that up.

>>31762159
It reflects poorly on the company when they can't even print the right numbers on their god damn box.

Oh boy, the velocity on the package is a minimum, it even says that. Stop pissing yourself because you fell for a marketing trick. The put the minimum of velocity and the maximum of energy attainable in their guns on it.
>>
>>31761992
Op here

374 ft-lbs is what's on their website, they claim that number.

My issue with them isn't an honest misprint, it's that they kept pushing the mislabeled boxes onto consumers after they knew.
It says a lot about them.
They could have issued a product withdrawal or sent out stickers to cover up the number but instead they decided it didn't matter that they were misrepresenting themselves and probably figured they would get extra sales out of it.
>>
>>31762403
Again their numbers and I filled a complaint with the consumer protection services commission subsection of the Federal Trade Commission.
I highly doubt they'll care but they are the ones who force recalls of bad product.

I'm going to write several magazines today most likely.
>>
Just figured id post this little tidbit of info. You can calculate the energy on a bullet in ft/lbs with this formula.

(Bullet weight in grains x (velocity in fps x velocity in fps))/450,000

(124gr x(1165x1165))/450,000=373.99ft/lbs
>>
You know what's fun? Calculating the muzzle energy of really big guns.

Like a 16 inch 50 caliber from Iowa.

It's about 320 million pounds at the muzzle.
>>
>>31763615
Does anyone know the shell weight and muzzle velocity of that 80cm railway gun the Germans used?

Anybody that believes that number is fucking retarded due to the lack of a +p+ headstamp or the fact that it's not some boutique ammo. Anyone that buys it believing it is probably too retarded to feel the difference. I don't like Sig and the ruined the only gun on their line that appealed to me, but you are just being a twat

>>
>>31763583
I've been autistic over muzzle energy for years. It's why I'm here. Here's some quick formulas for estimating energy.

>grains*ft per sec*ft per sec=x
>×/451000= ft/lbs
Or:
>x/332000= joules

It's accurate for small arms, but goes wild past 50 BMG.

Thanks, I still have a tiny bit more to get off, you can see it in the handle where it says P30 for example and you're not wrong about the other stuff either. For me it just tainted the whole ownership experience though. Plus, I admit SIG has been going downhill. They've got stupid marketing and even the guys at the gun counter that sold me the gun said they'd been getting some back with quality control issues. Then there's this >>31762174

Also, there seems to be some misconception about what the complaint is. So I made a picture for the people in this thread that are even more autistic than myself.
>>
>>31763857
For FRENCH units:
>grams*meter per sec*meter per sec=x
>x/2000=joules

I always wondered about that. I know a few other firearms with aluminum rails and have questioned that decision.
