All down to personal preference and the situation. I'd prefer my G19 over my 1911 for carrying, but I'd prefer my 1911 if my home was invaded.

Are there any hammer operated assault rifles?

For me hammer feels nicer then striker, it gives me a better feeling of control over the weapon.

Watched an over the top reliability test of hammer vs striker. Striker only came up short when it was actively firing underwater. Otherwise it was objectively better.

A lot of lever actions and older style shotguns have external hammers.

Are there any rifles with a double action trigger?
>>
>>31756853
There was some South American bullpup rifle which could be fired double-action, the safety working as a decocker if I recall right.

Kind of a nifty idea tbhfam.

In my experience Hammer fired pistols have better triggers.
>>
>>31756462

You can rest your thumb on an exposed hammer while reholstering to help prevent an ND in case something got into your trigger guard.
>>
Nice MXC reference their man.
>>
I dislike heavy DA pulls but am willing to settle because there is usually very pleasant SA pull for the next single to double digit length of rounds. Striker pistols just lack in trigger department usually unless you drop lots of sovereigns to Franken-After-Market the shit out of it.

Dream gun: Glock utility approach and simplicity, 1911 trigger and grip angle, a Steyr MA1 slide overhang and low bore axis, with the reliability and cheap parts/steel mags like the 92FS.
>>
>>31758765
You should design it in CAD.

I think a lot of people would be interested in something like a 1911 style gun that takes Glock 17 magazines
>>
>>31758765
>I dislike heavy DA pulls
You would hate a P64 then.

My brother has one and it's like a 30lb DA pull.

aparanty removing the magazine disconnect has the double effect of improving the trigger. somehow. polish the contact surfaces to at least smooth it out

ive got a p30. I like hammers because they're fun, and its a nice thing for appendix carry. its preference thing.

I use a da/sa, but for most situations and people striker is the way

Hammer all day.

Striker fired is cool and all, I carry a Shield but no matter what, a finely tuned DA trigger is miles more appreciative and safer than some 3.5lb cocked striker

Truth, it doesn't matter. Striker is cheaper and probably more reliable. Hammer can, but might not, have better trigger and hammers are just cool.

Literally a non argument and there's striker guns more expensive than hammer fired.

>and probably more reliable.

Thank you for your very informative post. Fluff and commenting on how cool hammers look. Nice. Have you ever even shot a TDA or SAO gun let alone touched one? Of course not, glockbabby.
>>
>>31758323
Yeah but you can get a good striker with a safety now that the FNS exists.
>>
Not owning either I say get what you want for the purpose you want it for. If you can cc a full-size 1911 then rock with your bad self. If you want to double-tap a bitch 7 1/2 times with a Glock 19 then double-tap to your heart's content.

Both are lovely pistols for the purpose that you want them for.

It's a meme

At SHOT show one year their pamphlet art had the bullets in the magazine backwards, I presume because it was done by a photographer and not a firearms expert. Everyone laughed at them and since then the tradition is that if you take a picture of an HK weapon with magazine, you have to load the magazine backwards

I came back to /k/ a week ago after a year or so of leaving. This is the first time I've seen the word meme used properly since.

This is why I think that hammer fired would be better for LEOs and striker fired for military.

What's the problem with having hammer fired for both?
>>

Kind of true... the standard of knowledge has dropped around here, but the trade-off is not having constant western vs weeaboo medieval threads, zombie apocalypse scenarios, an people unironically applying counter strike 'knowledge' to threads.

>>31756462
Double action striker-fired with a decocker like P99. Fewer parts like striker-fired, versatility like hammer-fired double action.
>>31761660
>There are very very few striker fired anythings that aren't pistols.
Yeah, except maybe almost every bolt action rifle ever.
>>
>>31762176

It's nearly 20 years old as a meme too. I remember reading about it on HK Pro back in like 1999
>>
>>31756462
Since this is a pistol thread: U notch sights or square notch sights?
>>
>>31763447

Doesn't matter. But I like squares as right angles help me align for accuracy. U notch felt slightly faster to pick up the front sight. These are just my experiences, though
>>
>>31761767
>>31761787
>>31761893

I'm dying. But this is blatant shitposting.

back to topic, I'm not a gunsmith but it seems like hammers can have an issue of something getting caught inbetween the hammer and firing pin while strikers don't have that issue (unless you've allowed mud and dirt and shit inside the gun). Then hard usage seems like it favors strikers.

I have a question regarding triggers for you experienced pistolaros. I've shot glock 40s, Ruger LC9, Ruger LCP, and a nameless hipoint 9mm, and of them all I liked the glock trigger best. Now I'm mentioning this to demonstrate to my /komrades that I've seen some minimal amount of trigger time on various pistols. My question is this: If most of us know what the good triggers feel like, why do so many gun manufacturers not make guns with these crisp, feel good triggers, right out of the box? Why does the aftermarket exist for triggers? Does it not behoove the manufacturers to have user friendly weapons with quality triggers from factory, rather than giving out business to aftermarket gunsmiths?
>>
>>31763440
You probably didn't, or you remember it wrong, because the catalog is from 2004:
http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2013/05/08/hk-bullets-real-story/
>>
>>31763600
Cost, mechanical differences, and varying preferences.

The fact that many triggers work just slightly differently makes a huge difference, though they can have a similar weight to them, the way the trigger interacts with the sear and hammer/striker can radically change how it feels and handles from design to design.

Some love the M&P trigger and say it's perfect, some hate it and insist the Apex is a must, I think it's not very amazing, but by no means the worst.
>>
>have 1911 and Glock 21

I like the Glock better but that may just be because I learned to shoot on Glocks.
>>
>>31761458
they're good shooting gloves.
but they arent good army gloves. as a nasty girl, even an infantry nasty girl, a tougher glove with more padding is necessary. the pig gloves are super dexterous at the cost of padding and durability
>>
>>31763289
modern military rarely uses handguns so they should use something that is both simple to use and cheap to manufacture.

I like SDA with decocker or decocker/safety. I like crisp SA pulls but appreciate the safety of an initiall DA shot.

The Beretta in particular has a multitude of redundant safetys. Ernest Langon also advocates the idea that under "duress" you may place or have your trigger finger on the trigger before youre supposed to. So the heavy DA makes an ND less likely. But u get the rest of your shots nice clean SA after so. Best of both worlds in my opinion. However i will admit glock triggers are sort of nice. Always consitent, soft and set up so anticipation is less likely.

But ii shoot tighter with a SA. So.

>>
>>31756462

I'm stealing this line from a youtube video (and god bless the /k/ommando who finds it) but I have to go with the hammer. The sound of cocking it back is like the international signal for you're about to meet the devil.
>>
Goddamn it. Stop putting your nail polish on perfectly good guns.
>>
>>31763600
I guess hammer blockage can theoretically happen but I'm not sure it does on da sa guns since they typically end up being carried decocked so shit can't get in the channel

Likewise water in a striker channel will cripple a striker gun
