T-thanks, /k/

Anyway, I'll start us off: I dropped my 1908 and dented the ejection port. Still shoots fine but it looks stupid, how do you think I should fix it? Pic related.

I was thinking using a hammer and punch and beating it back into place, but that'd leave marks all over the inside of the slide.

Not as stupid as the fact that it totally lacks any bluing.

>>31744209

It's nickel plated, my man. Back in the day all the cool kids were doing it.

Nah, that was just a picture so people would look at the post. They're pretty nice, though.

A while back, there was this whole thing about /k/ making a meme religion to protect the second amendment under the first. I lost the google docs link and want to read through it again.

Don't actually need it now, upped my googlefu by just searching for /k/ubism and found an archived thread with the link. Thanks, though.

Any /k/ommandos on prescription meds? What are your plans for SHTF?

I'm on a proton pump inhibitor for chronic acid reflux, and a beta blocker for a hereditary heart defect. Can I make these? Because simply stockpiling a lot is not a good solution; it will run out eventually.

Or am I just doomed to have heartburn until I die of a stroke?

You pinch the hammer between thumb and forefinger of your off-hand and let it down slowly.
>>
>>31745945
Will depend on the company, just how it is. Read the fine print, know what is covered and how much they're obligated to do based on the warranty; some are obviously going to be better than others. Otherwise it's similar to any other warranty return. Not speaking from personal experience, but just because it's a gun doesn't mean it's any different in terms of warranty treatment than a car, Leatherman, or anything else that has its own warranty.
>>
>>31745947
It's dirty, and a bit weak. If your guns don't have issues with light loads, you should be fine
>>
>>31746050
Haven't had any prob with light loads. Just haven't used tullammo or steel on my handguns. I'm interested in that brand mainly because of the price.

Got an unissued Yugo as mine. They're not bad guns, but with the price they've risen to it's honestly probably better to save an extra $200 for an AR (as cliche as that recommendation is). Unless you really like milsurp, which I do too, then go for it if you want it. They're solid guns and shouldn't ever break (though mine was the exception to that rule for a little bit).

To be fair, the value will probably only rise, especially if it's in good shape and a non-commercially-targeted Chinese variant. Also they catapult brass practically miles, which is fun, especially when someone seven lanes over looks confused getting hit by your brass.

>>
>>31746650
Nah, I got mine from an LGS years ago. Chances are though that straight imports should be fine for the most part, it's where places like that assemble their own guns (AKs especially it seems) that you need to be wary. SKSs, as far as I know, are imported fully assembled and just get electropenned with import markings, so you should generally be safe.

>>
>>31746875
Technically it's supposed to make the rifle slightly more accurate, though in the case of the SKS this will never be noticeable. All it means to you is that the rifle will require a little more attention after use. Honestly, it was mostly a problem back when corrosive 7.62x39 was still widely available and cheap, which it is now not. As long as you clean it properly after you take it to the range, you have nothing to worry about.

Found a Connecticut Valley Arms 1860 army replica on armslist for 25 bux. Worth it to play around with?

text the ad
>CVA model 1860 army .44 cal revolver. The army revolver is siezed and i cant get it to rotate. At this point i cant fix it maybe you can but at very least a cool conversation piece/wall hanger. $25

I'd like to have a black powder revolver since seems fun, I figure I could take the grips off and soak it in some motor oil and free it up. Should it be safe to fire once it is freed up? It is a steel frame with a brass trigger guard according to the seller. Just want it to have some fun with, maybe use some wax bullets and remove some tree rats from the yard because I live in the city.

OK, might as well ask.

I'm looking into my first handgun. I'm in CA, so it'll be a range and HD gun. I've got a decent amount of shooting experience thanks to friends and range rentals over the years, so I don't need to get a babby's first .22 or anything.

I was set on a P226 for years, as it fits my hands better than any other handgun I've tried, but the recent flood of complaints about QC and the shit Sig has been pulling lately have kind of put me off of one.

I'm looking for something with similar ergonomics to the Sig, particularly in terms of girp shape/angle and trigger reach. I'm open to a poly framed gun. I'd rather a real DA/SA hammer-fired gun than a striker. My budget is anything up to about a grand, but I'm not necessarily trying to splurge. I've read a billion guides and reviews and all of that, but I'd like to hear what /k/ thinks personally. What would you look at?

you shoot bullet, brass shell ejects out of gun, you collect brass casing, you clean brass casing, you buy new gunpowder and new bullets (the actual bullet) and primers(little dimples at the ass end of rounds that are basically tiny explosives that ignite the gunpowder), and you put all that shit together with a reloading press, now you have new round you can shoot and repeat process.

The more you know.

You can not own a pistol in CT without a pistol permit. You can own a long gun.

Russian optics are generally made for Russian-style equipment. You're dead on.

Only thing to watch out for is be mindful of how high they sit. Russian optics are notorious for sitting high, and you don't want a chin-weld when you should have a cheek-weld

I had a POSP on my AK for a while.

My personal experience/opinion: It looks sexy as fuck. But functionally I didn't like it. It sits very high and is pretty heavy. Overally for a 7.62x39mm AK, I felt it took away being able to quickly engage at close range, which is more of the AK's strong suite. (Yes technically you can still use the iron sights, but I found it awkward).

I was much happier trading out that optic for a micro-red dot mounted cowitness with the irons.

So I'm trying to learn to shoot my pistol with two eyes open, since it's for self defense. My issue is that even though I have tested myself to be right eye dominant with all those stupid tests like "make your hands into a triangle blah blah blah" when I try to line up the front sight and rear posts I always go to using my left eye.

For whatever reason my right eye can't pick up the rear sight posts when I'm looking at the front sight, but my left eye can. What the fuck? I figure I will just shoot with my right hand, lining it up with my left eye, but this is weird as shit. Anyone else experience this?

What I mean by that, my dude, is that defensive shooting relies more on the front sight than the rear. Your rear sight is for lateral reference. I can keep them in the 8-10 at 15m shooting fast after drawing. It's about gripping the gun right and finding that front sight. Put that shit in the breadbasket and pop it off.

>Can't use it now

I've never had to use a range, as I generally always gun shoot with him. I purchased a gun recently, so I want to practice quite often.

I live in a fairly dense wooded area in Missouri. What options for shooting do I have? I would hate to pay $15 just so go to a range each time.

I'm carrying a Surefire Titan Plus, and it's great. Small enough that you forget it's in your pocket, 300 lumens, made by a top-tier company, and, critically, uses common batteries and runs great with rechargeables.

The S1 Baton that >>31768016 is also an awesome light, but I prefer an AAA light because I can use Eneloops, a spare is much easier to pocket carry than a 123, and in a pinch I can get batteries from any gas station or grocery store or whatever.

Relatively speaking, how well zeroed will an optic stay if you remove it via a quick detach riser and put it back on later? I've got a 3x on my rifle and I've been wondering if it could be popped on and off without completely re-zeroing. I know I'll be losing some accuracy, just not how much.

Chrome lining is for corrosion resistance if you are forced to store your rifle in field or uncontrolled conditions.

Chrome lining is actually less consistent than raw steel or something like a nitride treatment so it will tend to reduce accuracy potential but help you to keep what potential it has for longer by reducing the rate of pitting (which comes from poor storage and cleaning practices).

Chrome lining is obsolete, it was the best there was available before about 1980, though.

the US also made them available to LRRP Green Berets during their patrols for when caffeine stops being potent enough to keep their eyes open.

Amphetamines are very clearly bad for you and destructive but they're significantly less bad for you an destructive than stepping into a pit of punji stakes or getting a new 30 caliber piercing.

If you could get a dose of amphetamines 20 minutes before you got into a firefight it would probably increase your ability to stay alive overall. The problem with amphetamines is that every dose is destructive and to take even a few doses when they re not totally necessary can significantly damage your ability to stay above the dirt for as long as possible.

For your first gun I'd recommend you go with the bolt action, it's a lot easier to isolate your fundamentals and strengthen them with some action that's manually actuated rather than semi auto.

Toss on a value scope like a Burris or a Weaver and focus for your first few range trips exclusively on trigger control, breathing, breaking your shot during your respiratory pause, and other fundamental marksmanship skills.

After that you can afford to speed up a little bit, reach out to longer distances, and push out your horizon. Aside from someone who needs their CC to be their first gun it's almost always best not to get a semi auto first.

buy red dot (or other unlimited depth of field optic) if your AR is fixed front sight. The extra light transmission you get from a 30mm tube is negated by the light blocked by the front sight post.

.380, .38 spl, or 9mm are usually where people draw the minimum line. Where you should draw it depends on whether you think you will be defending yourself from a 14 year old bare chested and malnourished sub Saharan pirate boy or a grizzly bear.

Because I anticipate needing to defend myself against a large human or small black bear I consider .38 spl +P+ a minimum for defensive use.

Depends entirely on how much you shoot the 44-40 and the .357 as well as how expensive the ammo you choose to shoot through both is.

For low start up costs and the ability to squeeze out maximum precision and velocity from your guns for hunting or matches you could buy a simple loading press and simple powder gauge from Lyman. Loading one by one is generally too time consuming to be economical or practical.

If you want to reload ammo and make it cheaper than factory due to volume you should probably go with a progressive press like a Dillon. Those are quite expensive, though and unless you shoot a LOT of relatively rare chamberings you're gonna have a hard time paying off a $400+ loading press with $.02-$.05 per round savings.

Overall, it's probably not worth getting into hand loading unless you live out west and need to make long shots on game or are really into long range shooting matches and it's probably only worth getting a progressive press if you shoot 2000+ rounds per year.

t. anon who loaded 3000 rounds in an obscure chambering one by one

looks like a good buy, anon. My experience with savage rifles has been all good. Their barrels are disproportionately good for their cost and so long as the fact that they cut out bells and whistles to reduce cost doesn't bother you I'd pull the trigger.

"bad" ammo is kind of a meme. There is a lot of ammo that won't shoot quite as precisely as match ammo but for general purpose practice at relatively short range (300 yards or less) it's all able to do the job so long as your rifle is decent and you are up to the task.

The steriotypical "bad" ammo brands are: tulammo, wolf, and factory remanufactured ammo. Honestly, though, I've run through a couple thousand rounds of bulk from these sources and found it all to work fine for range use. The cases aren't as slippery as brass or nickel coated brass and the powder charges are not quite as regular so they may not be as reliable and the really cheap stuff has a "bimetal jacket" which will wear on your barrel faster and maybe restricted for use on some ranges. If you are considering ammo for defense, buy good stuff. For range use, cheap stuff is fine.

The one thing you really ought to stay away from is bubba's basement loaded pistol ammo that get sold at gun shows, because if he got lazy and accidentally double charged one of the rounds you might blow up your gun and hand by trying to save a buck.

>>31762216

For the love of god, what ammo brand should I be buying? I want bulk FMJ and a decent amount of hollowpoints. (FMJ in 9mm, 5.56 and hollowpoints in 9mm) and I'd like something that isn't going to shit all over my guns. It doesn't need to be super high quality and accurate, but I don't want something that's going to wear on the gun too much.

Suggestions?
>>
>>31778317
Not really.

Guns with different lengths of their barrels can send projectiles downrange at different speeds but with modern powder this really has a negligible difference in terms of terminal ballistics.

Guns of the "same caliber" can impart radically different terminal ballistic effects because the same caliber does not necessarily imply the same chambering ie. 7.62 tokarev is significantly less powerful than .300WSM, though I am sure you meant chambering and not caliber.

The biggest thing that changes how much damage bullets do on target (assuming they're shot from similar guns) is the design of the bullet and whether or not they are loaded to magnum velocities/pressures.

Here is a video comparing different loadings of the same chambering shot from the same gun for refrence:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMfXLc7TS-0

TL:DR: Guns of the same chambering generally have similar ballistic performance but magnum pressures and well designed bullets can give an edge to one load over another.
>>
>>31778317
here is another video for your refrence showing how barrel length really does not have a drastic effect on energy and accuracy of pistol rounds.

In rifle rounds barrel length makes more of a difference in terms of velocity but still makes no difference in accuracy.
