I've got one, and it's sharp as fuck. But I basically got it because I love the aesthetics of the gladius.
I haven't put it through its paces yet, but the tip of the blade worries be a little bit. It gets pretty thin out towards the end.

it looks like a sword

Rome(2007) TV Series
Great show, but there's only a few small fights in it though.
>>31735499
That's from HBO's Rome. Not a lot of battles, but definitely worthy of a watch.

i have one of these OP, shit works really well as a club.
>>31733381
It's decent machete. It's got a nice heft to it, but it's also not too heavy. When I got mine it was already sharpened and very good at cutting. But the main purpose of the gladius was to stab, and it does not hold up very well at the tip. It could easily be fixed with a hammer tho.
>>31734365
>>31733381
Works great for a group of trained and disciplined fighters. Absolutely stupid for a single person of no training.
>>31735725
It's not good at all at being a machete. Are you dumb
If it's anything like the cutlass machete - it's a poor machete and a poor sword.
But for $20 it's worth the price if you want to have fun without spending money on bullets

reinforced point of a period gladius, spine is made thicker.

It's shit. Get a museum reproduction not this vaguely sword-shaped sharp object.

This weapon might have killed more people than any other single weapon in history.

Outclassed in certain areas by more specialized swords, but still a good sword all around
Gladius is the M1911 of swords.

> okay
>>31733582
I bought one of these mostly for shits but also because I clear brush around the house every so often so I figured why not. It's definitely a neat little conversation piece, but the tip is a problem. It's not as thick as a sword used for combat would be, and the extreme thinness of the tip makes it easy to bend. Mine bet sideways after using it to cut a thickish branch. That and the gladius was never meant to be a hacking weapon, so while it gets the job done and looks cool, it's not the most effective machete on the market in terms of doing actual work. The balance is also more toward the hilt like a sword as well.
>>31736177
Well, I mean... Technically most people don't go around with swords, and it would be pretty easy to fuck someone who doesn't have a sword using a sword with no training. That being said, it's still a fucking sword.
>>31733381
I picked one of these up from Cold Steel a while back. It's pretty fucking dope. Makes yard work less tedious because I get to pretend I'm a pirate.
>>31736127
did they have have chainmail back then?

Yes

I worked at Amazon as a before college job this summer, and we had a shelf just stacked full of Cold Steel Gladius machetes. Every time I passed rifle stocks or those I grinned.

I know the katana machete is pretty friggn sweet. Destroys brush like a madman and would lop off an arm or leg if need be.
I wish they made a decent kopis.
Speaking of short blades, I had a bout of seax addiction that lead me to chop down an ontario machete into a clip point. It's a pretty fun little blade now.

>Those types of armor in contrast were rare, expensive, hard to maintain and didn't last long, even though they were rad for the time period.
actually they were less expensive than the Hamata, just because making plates of a certain fit was not as complex and time-consuming as putting rings together.
it was also lighter and protected better than mail, however, the mail had three advantages that made it win out in the end: it was easier to put on, it was easier to repair, and it required less overal maintenance, soldiers didn't have to keep their mails polished or clean to avoid rust due to the natural movement of it.
