Easily avoidable, here are a few tips:

>Shoot outdoors as much as possible
>If you cast your own bullets, make sure the area is well ventilated, in-out airflow is prefered
>Wash hands thoroughly shooting or reloading, better yet, where gloves and them wash your hands
>Don't eat, lick or suck on any pieces of exposed lead

Getting lead poisoning is relatively difficult unless you are constantly consuming lead contaminated water or food. Even if you do, it is treatable and not the end of the world.

Solid lead is not an issue, is is lead dust or vapor that can get into your system. Shooting fmj (due to the exposed lead base) will create some lead vapor in the air, however being lead, it is heavy relate to everything else around it and will drop quickly. Basically, don't inhale the exhaust coming out of your barrel like in Deadpool and youll be fine.

I got shot in my early 20's and still have a lot of large fragments in me. How long do you think it would take to see noticeable lead related illness? They said they can't remove them due to where they are at (against my spine) so I am stuck with them being in me for life.
