Are the non shitlock ones hard to find? Are my options simply hitting up funstores that carry used guns? Other than armslist or gunbroker of course

Go for 6´´ unless you are planning on carrying the thing, which is stupid anyway. And go pre-lock
>>
>>31732694

wat a deal
>>
>>31732308
I thought the only reason to get the 6" was the better accuracy, but you imply that it is more fun. Could you explain?
>>
>>31732555
>Are the non shitlock ones hard to find?
In good condition? Yes. No one wants to sell unless for inflated prices. Around ~$800 here. Shit is whack and what's worse is that it's actually a good "deal" considering gun prices will only continue going higher.
>>
>>31732266
How do I know the difference? When i looked at the item on my stores website there was no mention of a lock.
Are those locks a purely american thing?
>>
>>31733098
Where are you from? Because us Europoors can buy used pre-locks for decent prices.

Lucky fuck. Besorg dir ein Sig 550 du Bergjude!
If you live close to France, a used police surplus Manurhin MR73 is also a great option.
>>
>>31733348
Hab eins vom Staat geschenkt bekommen ;)
>>
>>31733385
Like I said :Lucky fuck.

>Are the non shitlock ones hard to find?
Not particularly. They're probably one of the more common used guns that go up for sale after .22s/Rugers and low/mid tier hunting shotguns and rifles.
You can usually always find old coots in your area looking to sell their older Smiths and Colts.
Set up an RSS on Armslist in your area. You might not find exactly what you want, but if you're patient and maybe diversify your criteria a little you'll see plenty pop up in time.
Generally you'll pay a bit less to new price of what current/new models sell for at stores in 70-90% condition, which isn't bad.
>Are my options simply hitting up funstores that carry used guns?
That's good in addition to the above as well.
>Other than armslist or gunbroker of course
S&W forum is probably the best place to look, especially if you're set on a specific model and set up, but you will pay exact or above market value since everybody there knows what they have.

Also, the internal lock really isn't a big deal. The older Smiths just have better overall fit and finish and detail, like nicer quality grips, and have collector value because of that, but new smiths are still very good in quality. I would still look for an pre-lock just because of the price difference/collection or if it really screwed an iconic gun up like a 27/29, but if you don't care and get a good price, jump on it.
The lock can be removed and actual failures are very, very few and far inbetween.

You won't get the velocity out of .357 in short barrel configurations. They're still fun to shoot, but if you're interested in the ballistic performance of magnum rounds over .38 special, a 4" barrel just can't quite deliver.
