Anyway, there isn't too much you can get for $300. You could get a high point, but they are generally bad (although functional) guns.

Save another $100-200 dollars, it really opens up your options while being on the cheaper half of things. Right now most of your options are finicky milsurp which might dip over $300 after transfer and shipping fees or trashy guns.
Maybe you can haggle for a beat-up police trade in pistol for $300 at a gunshow but it's likely not to happen.

Do you own any other guns or have any firearm experience?

honestly 300 would only cover a thousand bullets
if you want to get into handguns save roughly a grand
that way you can get a pistol(5-700) and have money left over for a decent amount of ammo

My dad has guns + I've shot some of them in our spare time in Mississippi. However, I want to have my own gun so I can easily use it for target practice.

Because Daddy wouldn't allow me to go out and target practice with his guns. Says target practice costs alot of money. (He's in the city so he can't really shoot anything due to law and pissing the neighbors off).

Well what's good for home defensive purposes, I only wanted a handgun just to look cool tbqh, but now that I see I don't have enough money I'm willing to pay for something cheaper like maybe a shotgun if its utilizations are primarily about defense.

Honestly I'm a relative newfag with guns but I'll make sure to browse this board more often.

Check into a maverick 88, cheap and reliable for home defense. They usually run around $210 or cheaper. Check your local gun shop, most gun shops have used mavericks for $160 to $180.
