Got pic related in the mail today. Going to put an LED bulb in it and use it as an emergency light for power outages and whatnot.

Holy 80's batman
>>31723214
Why? They were considered to be shit even 20+ years ago.
>>31723254
I know, but I can't help it. I had one when I was a kid and I was in fucking love.
Have mine from basic training still. Two and a half years later. Leave it in my car just in case.
>>31723269
Do you leave the prismatic lens on it?
>>31723331
Nah man. I usually gotta run my redligjt when I'm drunk and doing stupid shit at the barracks parties
>>31723513
I'm probably going to leave my red lens on, just for that nostalgic glow.
> be 13 years old
> have stack of Hustlers I bought, borrowed and stole
> set up back of closet like something Anne Frank would have chilled in
> use red lens on angle head light just in case somebody walks in to bedroom
> that feel when I just want to be 13 jerking off to porn with a red flashlight again
My wife is so not going to understand this shit.
>>31723269
>tfw the DI stole mine for some dumbass road guard who lost his
>had to go through about half of basic without one
>>31723269

If your moonbeam made it out of boot camp, you're fuckin wrong.
>>31723663
At one point, I had three and I have no idea how. Now I have none.
>>31724202
At one point in basic everyone just left their gear adrift, I started collecting it. Turned my wall locker into a mini px of sorts.
>>31723214
Is that made out of chocolate?
>>31723663
I don't know what boot camp is. In basic combat training we were taught how not to lose our shit. Among other things.
>>31724563
It's actually OD..... motherfucker have you never seen a green angle head light before?!?! They only come in a few colors.
Damn, it's like people here never went into an army surplus store. Used to be that you couldn't walk in one without tripping over an old GI light.
>>31725130
Here. This is what the color looks like before my wife's phone camera fucked it up.
>>31723214
At one point i found a whole seabag full of these things. It's probably still in our supply locker.
>>31724910
Do you still have your virginity?
>>31725161
Na the Army took it from me many moons ago.
>>31724910
>misplacing is the only way to lose something
Those shitty plastic lights break when they impact concrete floors.
>Also ask me how I know you had 'drill saarnts' instead of drill instructors like everyone else who actually got the joke.
>>31725203
>WHERE DID YOU PUT YOUR VIRGINITY, PRIVATE? THAT VIRGINITY WASNT YOURS TO LOSE.
>>31725255
Are they that delicate? I remember mine lasting forever when I was a kid.
I also got one of those little waterproof strobe lights and used to leave it on in my room in the dark. Because reasons.
>>31725367
When I say impacting concrete I mean a man with a funny looking hat slamming it as hard as possible into the ground and it blows to pieces. They are pretty good for drops but I don't think it's nearly as bright as it should be for the size.
>>31725290
Kek
>>31725367
I've seen plenty a moonbeam drop and break during hikes.
>>31725367
My dad used his as a hammer several times when building our barn. It's dim, but still works
>>31723214
is there anywhere to get a brighter bulb?
>>31725433
>>31725502
Yeah, I know they're dim. I have a new LED bulb coming in the mail to fix that.
>>31725464
The moonbeam is the flat white diffuser, right?
>>31725607
Dorcy makes a replacement LED bulb that brings the output from 5 lumens to 30. I'm sure there are more powerful bulbs out there.
>>31723214
Hope you have last shift firewatch asshole
>>31725887
First or Last shift is best shift retard.
Middle shift is for fuckups and other retards.
>>31723214
>Basic Training
>Hey, this flashlight has a clip, must be for hanging off your tac vest
>One night nav later
>Gone
But like most things, I got a new one from the barracks lost and found later.
And by lost and found, I mean the cleaning closet where the civvy cleaning staff store everything people leave in their rooms alongside all the cleaning stuff the military guys use. Seriously, how dumb are they?
>>31723214
I'm partial to bakelite flashlights myself
>>31728610
>>31728610
niiiiiiiiice
>>31728619
Thanks.
Usually the old Stewart Browne bakelite flashlights have fucked up lenses or reflectors but mine are still very pristine.
Not too bad considering they're 80+ years old
>>31723214
Holy crap I hate those lights OP. Among my many lights, this is the only one I literally NEVER use.
The green one, that is.
>>31723231
Jokes on us, they're still issued.
>>31725701
The LED doesn't do all that much sadly, and moonbeam refers to the light itself, not any of the lenses.
Whats wrong with L shaped flashlights?
>>31723214
>Got pic related in the mail today.
Oh you poor, poor foo-
>Going to put an LED bulb in it
-ah, never mind, carry on
>>31729456
If OP is doing a custom LED job, it should be fine; most LEDs put out shit tons of light, regardless of whether you have a good reflector.
>>31729524
Way too heavy and bulky for the light they put out, who the hell uses D-cell flashlights as flashlights anymore?
These things are more useful for bludgeoning people in a pinch than they are as lights.
