I don't see any reason why not to use those for maritime duty. Chuck's have pretty good traction while most boots are designed for dirty and mud not slick, wet surfaces. It's pretty stupid to think they'd be using them for Afghanistan.

Converse would be a solid option in a developed or developing country if you didn't want your footprints to stand out among the locals'. In bumfuck middle of nowhere Afghanistan, though, it wouldn't matter because they're all wearing Soviet boots and homemade crap anyways.
