Time for a new milsurp thread.

Went to a gun show today and came back with several things.

The musket fits right in to early Civil War guns. The US imported a lot of them in 1861 and throughout the war.

Second, my dad came back with this m1941 Johnson.
>>
>>31704251
That one looks really nice actually. Congrat your dad for me anon, ive been looking for one of those for a long time and haven't found much. How much did he pay for it?

Im actually kind of sad, I wanted to get a box for my collection and a box to shoot. Both boxes are covered in packing take and all the cases in the open box have split necks. I was originally going to buy like 500 rounds. Apparently the tracer bit doesn't really work no more so they are basically just normal Cupro-Nickle rounds

Frog here, these are regular rounds, indicated by both the
>Balles O Mle 1924 C
and the
>Bal Ord (Balle Ordinaire - Ordinary Bullet)
AP would be indicated Balle P while tracer would be T, TO (Tracer Ordinary) or TP (Tracer AP).

And if I'm not mistaken, on the left you have lacquered bullets while on the right it's a cupronickel jacket.
>>
>>31706247
frog here too and can confirm.
>Balles O = ordinary (ordinaire)
>Balles P = perforating (perforante)

"Etuis" stands for "case"
"Laiton" is "brass"
"amorces" is "primers"
hidden under the bullet is "balles" for "bullet" obviously
and "Poudre" which stands for "powder", you guessed it. In grams, not in grains. 2.90 or 2.94 g equals roughly 45 grains of powder, if you're interrested in reloading.

Where do you all get your surplus at? Ive been trying to win a finn nugget on gunbroker but the last 4 or so have gone for 700+
Is that really how much they cost for one in great shape?
>>
>>31706700
Like I said when I started the thread I get most of it from gun shows. You just have to make sure you head to good ones not ones that are basically flea markets.

As for Finn Mosins, it depends. Is it an altered Imperial Russian, Soviet, or Finnish made, what model, does it have a sling, ect. Depending on those things $700 could be cheap or way overpriced. $700 is probably what my Finned 1895 dated Tula Imperial Arsenal is worth now.

IMO, they're all pretty equal with the exception of sights. Find one that has the fancy micrometer sight and you're set.
I'm pretty sure it was an early feature on just the MkI's, but my 1943 Long Branch No.4 MkI* has it as well. Guessing the rifle got updated from MkI specs or something.

Anything in particular to look out for when buying Swedish m/96 Mausers? I think I found a deal on Armslist - $375 for a really nice-looking one - but for all my milsurps, I've never actually bought any Mauser, let alone a Swede.

What's the best milsurp for someone who's on a budget and never owned a manual-action rifle?

The Swedish mausers and Yugo mausers look really cool, but is the ammo cost going to kill me? And how much should I be looking to spend on one?

Don't know for sure, but AIM is usually pretty good about being honest or even conservative about grading their surplus. I bought one, so maybe we will find out as soon as Friday. For less than a Mosin I think it's worth it.

Enfields are weird right now. I got my No.4 for $210, but I've seen them go for up to around $450 without getting into the weird collectable variations. For that matter, No.1's seem to be going anywhere from $300-$500, which is weird because they're generally more plentiful.

Inland, has the GMC barrel marks and everything. Yeah I got it for 750 bucks at a show cause I needed to replace my UC-9 that kept trying to kill me.

I've put about 300 rounds of brass case in it and it hasn't fucked up or done anything stupid so far when I was plinking. While the uzi managed to double fire, stove pipe, generally not work, switch itself into safety mid magazine, and then catch a squib and almost chamber a fucking round.

So after doing a little research I found that while the mle1822 muskets were originally flintlock, mine was built in 1856 as a percussion conversion. It was never in its life a flintlock. As to why the French continued to build a musket well after it had been replaced and made outdated, I have no clue. There are no books in English that go into details of early French and European arms.

Here mate, to complete my previous post >>31706426 and answer you, I found this :

Well it's in spanish but it's a BIBLE for 7.5x54 french rounds markings. With this you'll now precisely where and when your rounds have been made.

How much should i pay for a k31? On gunbroker theyre ranging from like 650 up to 1200.

Expect of pay at least $500 these days. You might find one cheaper, but it's not gonna be a regular thing.

Hey, can you guys help me out? I need a price check on a certain Mosin at Cabela's.

It's a 1928 Tula ex-dragoon that looks to be fully correct and parts matching, and hell, I can't even find any arsenal refurb marks on it. It came in a shipment of Century imports and is still in cosmoline. Aside from the annoying CIA billboard import mark on the receiver, it just has a couple of minor dings and blemishes on the stock. Other than that it seems to be pretty pristine. Couldn't check the bore because it was literally plugged with cosmoline.
They're asking $250.

I'm just getting into milsurp, but I recently bought my first one.

Currently finalizing a deal for a Berthier Carbine and a Arisaka Type 44 w/ mum.

I bought a 100% matching Mosin-Nagant M44 in pristine condition, the bore is perfect, and it has no capture markings. All the original markings are in fantastic condition, and you can clearly see the arrow/triangle and hammer/sickle stamps. The bore is mirror sharp, with clean, deep, rifling. Got it for $400 with a repro sling, did I do good?
>>
>>31721877
I have an m44 in basically the same condition for sale for $225 and it's been on armslist since August and it hasn't sold yet. You tell me.

I have yet to buy anything at a gunshow, but my dad did once enter a raffle at one and won a 50s Garand.

I fired my mosin last week with 10 bullets of corrosive ammo and forgot to clean it. Is this rust I see on the bore permanent or will this come off with some hoppes and ammonia products?
>>
>>31730203
>Ammonia
Not needed. Bore brush, penetrating oil, and Hoppes. Next time, just run hot water through the bore after shooting.
>>
>>31730292
Do you know if I would still need to clean it at all if I only used non corrosive ammo? Would it be bad for the weapon to let it sit?

Don't follow the ammonia meme. The amount of ammonia needed to naturalize the salts would wreck the barrel more than the salts will. The salts are hygroscopic, as in they are attracted to water. Just flush it out with warm water.

There were at least 2 at the Allentown gun show I went to in PA. Piece of advice I got from the guy I bought that 1822 from, pretty much any French muskets you see that are bright are from France and the metal has been polished like crazy. Apparently that's the collector mentality in Europe, get rid of the patina and make it look like it did when issued.

This was the guys table.

The Maxim USA one is rare. They only made 1 million rounds. I bought it for like a $.25. It's worth like $10 lol.

Here's a round of 6.5x50sr I bought.

Probably. Some of the North China Type 30 copies are in 7.92.
>>
>>31748673
OK. Just wanted to make sure that such a thing would be authentic.

Those North China ones aren't particularly rare are they?
>>
>>31748725
>Those North China ones aren't particularly rare are they?
While not rare by any means, they aren't exactly common either.

But the Chinese did convert a lot of rifles to 7.92. There was even a contracted Type 30 rifle with some warlord around 1900. Now those are rare. They have this cool dragon crest. There is someone on 4chinz in Britain that has an original and matching one of those. So jelly. Every other one that is known has been beat to shit by the Chinese before being imported in the 80s.
>>
>>31749090
So a 8mm North China Type 30 carbine wouldn't be worth more than say $450 would it?

Guy I know has one and I'm trying to determine how much I want to offer him.

Anyone know where to find good No. 1 Mk. 3s? I really want more WWI guns. The largest gun show in the world is coming up November 12, and I plan on selling my Mosin there, but k wasn't sure if there's any place you guys recommend getting them.

>Tfw I found one today in a pawn shop for $180....

>>

A good gun show will have a bunch. You have to be selective of your shows though, biggest doesn't necessarily mean best. I've seen that show put on by collector groups are the best, hence why I think the Allentown PA show is much better than the Oaks show despite being much smaller.

This is Wanenmacher in Tulsa. I've had good luck with it before, like my Gewehr 98, which I got for $240 from a fudd planning to cut it down into a durr rifle. I'm just hoping that November 12 date won't completely kill my chances of finding good deals, considering what happens a few days before.

Armslist, gunbroker, or gunshows. If you aren't concerned with getting a 100% matching one, you could find a moderately sporterized one for under $200 and get new stock pieces and hardware and restore it.

Auction's selling a bunch of old fudd guns tomorrow, went and checked it out. They got three "Japanese ww2 rifles" (literally all they describe/define them as). Two were beaten up as fuck with really bad wooden stocks, the back of the bolt blemished like someone defaced it. The third (lowermost) was in better condition. No chrysanthems on them though.

I assume the bottommost is the type 38 given the length and no dust cover. I have no idea what the top two are. Are they authentic looking or bubba'd? A quick glance and I think they are type 99s, but they are in such poor condition I can't imagine they'd sell for much.

As much as I love being Tendo Heika Banzai in Rising Storm looking up the price of ammo for it (assuming it wasn't bubba'd into 30.06 or some such) made my eyes bulge. That being said, how much could you flip a Type 38 in fair condition for?

They aren't milsurp,
>>
>>31754261

Whoops sorry, I wasn't sure if 4chan was done unfucking itself.Obvious Arisakas are mulsurp. I was meaning to say "They aren't milsurp but looking at some other fudd stuff. Going to try and get the MSRPs myself but I'd welcome a second pair of /k/ eyes." but I'd rather not clutter up the topic further.

Just went to cabelas in buffalo New York and thought you guys would like some of the prices
699.99 for a yugo sks
499.99 for Chinese sks
1600.00 for a garand
350 for 91/30 mosins
350 for unamed and unmarked mausers
399.99 for ariska without the mum
799.99 for a m1903
And 349.99 for a mk4 enfield
Also note none of these are pristine they are all very beat up

I have never handled an mk4 enfield and it is now the next rifle I would like to purchase the one there was pretty beat up and had no good rifling.
