Remember that military testing does not certify a NIJ level rating. The ESAPI provides up to a single round stop against 30.06 AP but that rating is only achieved when the plate is used in conjunction with IOTV/CIRAS/MBAV soft armor.

>>>31665614

I'm afraid you are the misinformed individual in this case. An ESAPI might absorb several rounds below its rating with no soft armor backing, however this does nothing to change the fact its top rating is only achieved with said soft armor as these plates are very much intended to be used with.

I do. Only two complaints:

1. It's pretty thin, so you'll have wear something under it, similar to a Gorka.

Multitool. Leatherman Rebar or Signal would be good options. OHT and MUT are nice, as well.
>>

for awhile, kinda. my old grips were too fucked up, so, i decided to run it without. worked pretty well for CC in a holster. very low profile. I've since changed to a fullsize USP for EDC and installed a set of Kimber grips on the 1911.

also, the picture makes my 1911 look waaaaaay better than it really is. that thing is SUPER worn. needs refinishing BADLY. it was, and still is, my go to bitch when everything else is failed/gone/not practical.

Hey guys need some advice.

I'm building a heavy battle belt that is meant to act as a line one piece of gear. It ideally is going to be similar to a light chest rig. I'm trying to get 3-4 rifle magazines on there, 2-3 pistols magazines, an IFAK, radio and pouch, two nalgenes, and maybe a dump or GP pouch. I will be using suspenders.

I'm trying to figure out how to do the magazines.

What do you guys think about using a double stack rifle mag pouch, next to a 2x2 rifle/pistol mag pouch. The total footprint would be 3 rifle mags wide and I'd have 4 rifle mags and 2 pistol mags. I was thinking about using these pouches:

http://www.awsin.com/proddetail.asp?prod=52099

http://www.awsin.com/proddetail.asp?prod=51729

The other option would just be to use a 3x3 rifle/pistol mag pouch like this one:

http://www.awsin.com/proddetail.asp?prod=52088

Also does anyone know why Tactical Tailor uses fucking coyote/tan molle straps on their multicam pouches? The coyote/tan straps literally cover up the multicam you pay for. Fucking stupid.

Thanks guys!

I tried to write up a lengthy theory of gear layout to articulate my thoughts, but it got hijacked by an infantryman who touched a Special Forces guy one time, so I got BTFO. I really have never had any experience at all doing anything tactical.

I'd love to hear peoples' thoughts on the the organization and reasoning behind certain prices of gear.
>>
>>31668090
There's simply too much diversity and fads in gear to articulate such a point on /k/. Some guys like belts and more weight on the hips, some like PC's, some like cheap but effective chicom rigs.

There is no "one good way" to do gear because everyone has different needs based on their situations. Shit, back when I was a muhreen, I changed my PC around just about after every patrol because I would discover something wasn't effective
>>
>>31668090
My theory is buy a bunch of shit that looks cool and might work, throw it together, try it, if it works then it works, if it doesn't then figure out how it could. Shits all mission dependant.

This theory is also how I end up with a bunch of gear.

I have a screencap of the thread I enjoyed the insight. Did the guy ever tell you about the CAG layouts or was he just talking out his ass?

also thanks for the drill tips for the Bindon aiming concept, I had a blast with my buddy at the range.

I kind of took a few things from the British and incorporated it into my kit.
I carry a small survival kit on my chest rig just incase I get separated from my backpack.
I carry my IFAK on my left-hand side so it's on my medics right-hand side.
I like to keep my maintenance kit/nav kit on my person?

and scattered small independent blowout throughout my gear, and put a full ifak in my day pack or rucksack.
>>
>>31668732
Oh, okay cool! That's fine, just covering bases in case.

Worth mentioning I'll ship if it's from here, I just don't trust armslist a lot of the time.

>>31665761
Maybe one day you will realize what a bitch you were being right now.

It would be different if you were selling off your shit to go to a simpler weapon configuration and something more suited to your environment, but it's obvious that's not what's happening. You should be ashamed of yourself. At the risk of sounding like one of "those guys", you are willingly turning yourself into a naked sheep.

I invited the anon to correct me about how CAG does things, but sadly he must have had other things to do and never got around to it.

Not to say that Bindon method is the end all-be all, but I really like it just so that shooting with any magnified optic on the fly is doable. I am a fan of being able to adapt existing gear to unexpected situations.

I like having compasses. I am trying to get my Suunto watch which includes a compass fixed currently, but even so for deliberate land nav a GI compass is very precise. I don't really do map pouches, I dunno, just a personal thing. I just put maps in pockets but that's not like a tactical argument thing. I do like keeping them in sheet protectors so I can mark them up with sharpie and not ruin the map though.

Dude, just look at what old ass mil rigs worked, and build your own. There is a reason you don't see people "run" that kind of shit any more, it's not practical. There is a reason you see guys spreading light loads on their chest and waist, it's the most practical thing to do. If you want to do this retarded setup, then do it, it's not that hard to figure out, but there is no reason to constantly go on gq and ask "what's the smartest way to do the dumbest thing?".

shame would be interesting to hear about the CAG kits

Funny thing is with being ambi eye dom and Bindon. was my left eye looks at the target and my right eye focuses on the reticle, which leaves me with a weird red dot situation. I just aim a little to the right, and the bullet goes where I want it.

>I dunno, just a personal thing. I just put maps in pockets but that's not like a tactical argument thing. I do like keeping them in sheet protectors so I can mark them up with sharpie and not ruin the map though.

fair enough, my "map pouch" is just a plastic ziplock with toggle buttons on it, it came out of necessity when I was wearing jeans and t-shirt none of which have great map pockets.

In my experience people who crash into a conversion about how they are cool via proximity to Special Forces don't even work inside the the green fence.

In any case, I really wanted to talk about gear relating to concept for use, which is something that is based on more than monkey-see, monkey-do copying of the bits and pieces you see cool guys doing. Context is tremendously important, which is why I tried to autistically define the context in my thread. To no use, but I tried.

What I would like to do is fit the two UCP pouches (after a dye) on the sides because they are both fuckhuge and can hold a wide assortment of items, but I can't decide on the mag shingles (room is tight) or buying four double mag pouches, two on each side, so the damn SAW/240 pouches will fit.

The BT APC? It seems cool but it's a little heavy for a 5.56mm rifle. Are you guys going to be getting the CZ Brens in Canada? I saw one at a LGS recently and it's a neat rifle, but I'm not sure if I want to own one; especially not for the price of a SCAR.

>>31672369
Honestly you'd probably be better off dropping one of the SAW pouches (or keeping both on a battle belt?) just because you really shouldn't have that wide of an "assortment of items" ready for use at all times. Stick to what you need on the plate carrier rather than what you want.

Also why the fuck do you have UCP gear? If you're military it's understandable, but that shit looks way too clean to be military/used/surplus.

the Czechs wanted to stop using the VZ58's and probably didn't want to pay to fund a new weapons program so they just asked CZ to make a newer rifle.
its just a Czech SCAR basically.
>>
>>31672861
>>31672832
They have the VZ58 in 5.556 though, what was the point in jumping ships? Furthermore what was wrong with the VZ system that they discontinued it? Other than making it fucking worthless now.
>>
>>31672890
probably because they want a more modern gun that interfaces with accessories easier and uses STANAG magazines.
>>
>>31672910
but they had that. That argument is a cop out. Look at the AK platform and tell me what "modern aftershit" they can't put on it and if they can use STANAG patterns or not.

My point stands, CZ is a bunch of logistical fucknuts. Though I want to know how the 806 stacks against the M4 for uhh purposes.

the czechs never adopted the vz58 in 5.56 though, and even civilian versions had issues of bolts blowing apart, the plastic 5.56 mags are pretty garbage feeling, and why make an adapter for every gun, new rails for every gun, when you can literally just make a new gun.
>>
>>31672946
You need to replace rifles eventually anyway, and rather than bolting on to an existing design, they went with a newer design. It's not a huge deal. Vz fanboys get so butthurt.

From what I handled of the 805s, they feel fine. Neither significantly better or worse than an M4.
>>
>>31672998
I guess it was time to modernize in general.

>>31673004
What have you put them through? are they as cost effective as efficient? Are they the same quality? Are they proven in real combat?
>>
>>31672946
>Look at the AK platform and tell me what "modern aftershit" they can't put on it.
A freefloating barrel? They had do to some heavy redesigning to do that. How about a full length top rail? I guess if you want to go with ZenitCo's beluga rail.

VZ58s have very little aftermarket (>inb4 Zahal shit) and aren't that great of rifles. They've got a bolt catch but no release so the shooter still wastes movements getting the rifle back into a ready state, it's got no good options for a stock (the beaver barf is tolerable but the folding stock is just ass), and the thing was pretty much designed not to interface with Soviet tech so it couldn't even benefit from the advances that they made with their weapons.

Asking why the Czechs made and adopted Bren when they had the VZ58 is a bit like asking why FN would build and why anyone would adopt the FN SCAR when the AR18 exists, and the answer to that is because the previous weapon had some major issues that made it pretty shit in the modern day.
>>
>>31673033
I handled them a bit when I was on a joint compound with a small Czech unit. They previously had Vz58s.

They didn't like the Brens at first mainly for the reasons that the initial batch of mags had those connector lip things on them, making them hard to put in pouches. They also didn't like not being fully supplied with proper mounts and stuff for the optics. Once those bugs were ironed out, they started carrying them and liked them.

Czechs were previously quite jealous of our M4s due to the more controllable caliber, lighter ammo, and more manageable mags for putting in the vest. They didn't like burst fire.
>>
>>31673048
I know the reasons, I just wanted to confirm them. I don't exactly see the cheques actually doing any fighting that they should care though.

Also with enough "want" you can modernize anything. my VZ58 had the works just like my SGL. Same rails in the same places and everything. Just wasn't that great of a gun regardless.

>>31673122
I don't like burst fire much either personally. Just feels wonkers. Alright thanks for explaining. Now I can call out shitposts where I see em. Do the CZ actually fight?
>>
>>31673145
I have nothing but love for the Czechs. The guys that go over go on short rotations, but constantly and often to the same areas, so they know the battle areas very well.

They will absolutely open fire on the enemy starting with the biggest weapon they have and don't give a fuck about American officers whining about ROE. They are much better to have than a US unit that has a skiddish officer who is more worried about his career than fighting the enemy.
>>
>>31673145
>Don't do any fighting
They sent 450 to Kosovo when KFOR was a thing, 460 to Afghanistan, 300 to Iraq, and some random soldiers here and there. Sure, that's not a lot, but that's enough combat with the VZ58 to know that it's no longer good enough to serve their military.

You also have to remember that this is a country that has a profound dislike for Russia, and Russia is only looking to expand its sphere of influence. Better to be prepared to fight your enemy than to get dicked when they come knocking on your doorstep.

Help me, gear queers, I want to invest in a throat mic for tactical operations in my backyard. Are there any quality ones you guys can recommend? The ones on Amazon all have sort of mixed reviews, or look questionable.

Also, if anyone has used/uses a throat mic, how are they? I hear the quality is great even when it's noisy, but are they comfortable? I think my neck is 15'' or so (that's my shirt size at least, I haven't taken a measuring tape to it yet)

Ive been seeing people getting plate carriers and hydration packs. I dont know how to approach getting a good setup but Im willing to learn through some failures and a little bit of wasted money. Get some gear if you dont have any though, thats my opinion. Get a nice CC holster, since its practical, then look at some gunfighter setups.
