air rifle thread.

New to air rifles? Have a question? Shoot.

inb4 "herp derp, /toy/ is that way ->", air rifles are suitable for hunting small game like rabbits and squirrels, and superior to firearms for pest control, because they can be safely used in places firearms cannot.

Also - high power air rifles can bring down medium-large game (like hogs and deer).

and because I feel like showing off, pic related is my new tx200hc.

I have a 13 year old BSA Meteor .22 that couldn't hit a barn door and failed to kill a pigeon at 20 yards once (or we have particularly tough pigeons) so i am in the market for something better. So far i've narrowed it down to an Air Arms S410 or a BSA Gold Star SE for PCP or perhaps just a decent spring/gas ram gun instead.

How is the TX200HC?

heavy. Not actually an issue (you want some extra weight on an air rifle, especially a springer), but you really feel the 5 kilograms with scope (more or less) this thing weighs.

It's really sweet to shoot though. Pic related (lower left target, one shot, dead center) is me checking my zero today at 20m.

It was slightly windy today, but best I can figure (until I sit down and do it properly), there's a 1 mil-dot holdover at 30m, and 4.25 mil-dot at 50m, secondary zero is somwhere near 28m (primary at 20) with 15.89 grain pellets.

By comparison, a s400/410 (410 is just a 400 with a magazine that gets in the way of a large SF wheel) has a 1.5 mil-dot holdover at 50m (primary zero at 25), but that's .177 for you.

picture is sideways. This is a 1mm thick steel dinger that the .22 pellet put a visible dent in at 50m (flight time maybe 0.5-0.75 seconds).

What else can I say - it's a world championship winning gun in HFT2.
>>

>1mm

actually may have been closer to 1.5mm thick
>>

Interesting. There's a package deal online for £608, comes with the gun and a Hawke Eclipse 4-16x50, plus a bag.

I was going to go .177 as i'm only doing target shooting at the moment

seem like a good deal?

All I want in this life is an Anschutz 8002 and a 20 meter indoor range

Anybody have a Benjamin discovery ? I kinda want the .22 version to get a TKO brake

Sounds ok. I know pound is low at the moment, but the scope is way better than your usual 4x32 with 30-30 reticle package deals.

If you decide to hunt with a .177, you can use pic related (incidentally, the .22 version doesn't have such great performance, bacause it's 19.something grain and you need 20+ foot pounds for it).

I got a .22 because I already have two rifles in .177 (s400f and a walther lgv).

>>31658885
It is, i found it £100 cheaper at a different shop that i can drive to. I need to read up on scopes.

At the moment i don't really have anywhere or anything to hunt, i live in a built up town and the cu-de-sac i live in has a few cats so any small game that can't fly gets murdered.

here's the 10x40 sidewinder - I really like that 1/2 mil-dot reticle (this one is scaled to 10x, since it's a fixed magnification scope, the other one I have is scaled to 20x).

Had the parallax set at 55 yards, and the beam in the crosshairs is at 25 yards (that's taking pictures with a phone for you).

Does anyone know if they make anything like rat shot or snake shot for an air rifle(basically really small bird shot )
t's hard to hit chipmunks bouncing and running around everywhere with one projectile
With any consistency atleast

I have the Benjamin Maximus in both .22 and .177 It's basically a Discovery on a synthetic stock. I love them. Once I got them I retired all my springers. They are way more accurate, half the weight and very consistent in the fps. I don't know why they are the only pcp air rifles designed to operate at 2000 psi. There is no way I would want to pump to 3000 but 2000 is no problem at all. Basically shoot abour 45 to 50 shots and pump maybe 70 strokes to recharge.

Gamo does make a 22 cal air rifle that fires shot shells but they are a lot more expensive then pellets.

because most people have no problems with filling to 18 BAR - i can do it with a hand pump no problem, and most people use scubatanks anyway, and 70 shots from an s400f in 180-120 bar range is plenty.

on a different note, wind was getting pretty crazy today.

50m with AA s400f .177/JSB exact 4.52 8.44 grain)
>>
>>31659344
Will they fire out of any 22 cal pellet gun?

Can you link me them?
I've gotten pretty good at hitting chipmunks when they pause but I want to be able to blast the fuckers when they're running
>>
Have a springer in 4.5/.177

Anyone has experience with scopes for them? Everywhere I just hear that a springer will break any scope you put on it sometime.
>>
>>31658293
recently got a daisy powerline 822; picked it up second hand cheap from some retard that clearly had no clue about air rifles and it barely holds charge, long story short i striped the whole thing down cleaned and oiled it all, changed the o ring and (heres the worst part) put a ram rod down the barrel to clear what i thought was one round jammed in there.
I shit you not 19 pellets fall out the fucking thing, i put it all back together and it works to a degree now but it still doesnt really give any real punch.
Any ideas streloks?
>>
>>31662409

depends on the springer. Cheap ones vibrate a lot - they can actually damage scopes that can handle .375 H&H magnum, because piston rifles have double recoil (first when the piston starts moving, then when it stops moving), and if the piston rebounds, there can be secondary vibrations.

High end springers like the lgv/lgu, tx200, pro sport, hw97, etc. have quite sophisticated internals, to limit the vibration.
You can also use one-piece mounts with stop pins, fixed magnification scopes (instead of variable mag) and 30mm tubes that are more durable.
