Usually, people prefer to maximize their sight radius, and will only cut it down to allow certain accessories like lights or IR lasers. Kyle Lamb (I think) did some very non-scientific research and found that 14" was the sweet spot for FS to RS placement in terms of balancing speed and accuracy. There are some people who think that accuracy gets perpetually better as sight radius increases.

It's very convenient to not have to fuck with who knows how many extra QDs, rail segments, adapters and attachments when you need a light sometimes. You always have 2" of top rail available and can put the light on easily when it's needed.

The downside is that because it's 12:00, it does obscure the optic's field of view somewhat. This doesn't affect a red dot. One of the reasons I put the RMR back on was because even though it's 500 LOOMINS the visible light isn't going to carry so far that a 3-4x optic would be ideal at night. The dot makes more sense at under 75 meters, and the light housing doesn't block the high-up dot.

If I wanted to have dead weight on the gun all the time for the slim chance of MUH FIREFIGHT, I'd get an M600 on an offset mount like erybody else. But since any other time you'd need a light, such as hunting or target shooting, you'd have time to attach it. Having the light permamounted at all times forever no matter the situation makes no sense. And the lightest, quickest, slickest way to attach a light some of the time is a pistol light at 12:00. M300 won't be as low to the handguard, or as powerful, and will require permanent attachment of a rail section when not in use. X300 Ultra is as powerful as an M600, but lower, shorter and faster to attach or remove.

I want to do a decent AR build, but don't have the money to complete it in one go. Given the election, and in anticipation of the worst happening, what should I get first to make sure whatever I build is grandfathered in? I imagine things like the buttstock, pistol grip, trigger group, and sights/optics won't be subject to restriction and could be gotten later. Should I focus on the lower receiver and BCG then? Given the AR status as a scary assault gun, do you think a keymod or rail system for a free-float barrel would be a good thing to get now, or would it be something still available later? Thanks for the help.

When I had a PRO it was rad, I left it on most of the time. The light doesn't really block more of your sight picture than an A2 front sight post would. But with the magnified optic, it's a little annoying.

Side benefit: You can use the same light on a pistol if you need it. So you can buy it, try it, and if you don't like it you still have a pistol light.

I've never been let down by mine. It is without a doubt the most aesthetic Glock out there, maybe tied with their double stack subcompacts. The 17 is too long, it looks stupid. I'm curious though - if an AWB like the 94 one, not updated at all, happened, would it be legal to just build an AK from scratch or an AR from a 80% receiver? Like, I know the AWB then had the grandfather clause so I'd think you could just build an AR from an 80%, give it all the features you want and go "hurhurr it was from before 2017".

The north police precinct for Seattle deals with a shit ton of calls and there current building is tiny and old af. Just got my Delton upper in.
1/9, chrome bore, A2 upper and lightweight profile barrel.

Looks fine and zeroed to an A2 target paper with no windage adjustment, which was soothing to my autism. I need to test ammo brands to see what it likes best, but desu my priorities are on m193 stockpiling and plates.

I'm personally not a believer in 5.56 out of anything below a 14.5" barrel. It loses a lot out of shorter barrels and the terminal ballistics just aren't there.

If you aren't going to be shooting a lot of rounds through it I'd recommend going .300 blk for such a short gun as it performs much better out of short barrels than 5.56. Barring that, make a 9mm upper, that's another caliber that makes sense with a short barrel.

My HD gun is a 16" and believe me the length is fine. I also get a fully functional stock, unlike what you'd get on a constitutional abomination "pistol."

For me its not just the swapping of the muzzle device, but the ability to change/remove rails and GB on my own as well. I live in central Florida with two absolutely retarded gunsmiths nearby, and I trust neither of them. After having a 14.5 and a 13.7, the extra step of taking the upper to a gunsmith to make it legal just made it seem that much more retarded, considering I still ended up with a 16" gun.

Yes. A 10.5" with carbine gas works. I think my pistol has become my favorite gun. The Shockwave brace actually works really well if you smooth out the edges a little bit so it doesn't dig into your skin.
