What happened to it? A lot like the SR47 a few got made, tested and it just went dark from there. Was it too brutal of a gun or did the cons outweigh the pros?

Blow the bolts off a door still have a lot of rounds left if using the drum, can be point man with the team and turn opfor into hamburger
>>
>>31650769
Combat shotguns simply aren't very relevant. A rifle is a far better investment for a military to give to troops as an individual weapon.

Notice that most shotguns you saw in use were short PGOs, and now the underslung MASS shotguns. That's because if a military is using a shotgun, it's 99% for breaching anyway.
>>
>>31650769
Its too niche.

>>
>>31650831
Engineers get shotguns.

Also remember that the AA-12 has fucking frag rounds. I mean come on. Full auto slugs, buckshot and frag rounds. It's the deadliest hand held weapon conceived on earth.
>>
>>31650830
A rifle can still take enemies down perfectly well in close quarters. And it is more useful at range. And you have more ammunition and ammo commonality with the rest of the unit.

Seriously, ammunition commonality and ease of logistics is so much more massively important than giving a bunch of special snowflake guns that all use different shit to everybody.

Breachers using shotguns should be standing at a position where they won't be the first person in anyway, so that's also kinda bs. Better off using a small secondary shotgun for breaching, then slinging it and using a rifle. Or using a doorknocker charge and leaving the shotgun at home.
>>
>>31650869
>Engineers get shotguns.

Too much vidja, the post
>>
>>31650869
>Engineers get shotguns.

Some do. And they get PGO or MASS type shotguns when they do. The shotguns are almost always intended as breaching tools primarily, with their utility as weapons being secondary. The VAST majority of engineers are carrying carbines though.

>Also remember that the AA-12 has fucking frag rounds. I mean come on. Full auto slugs, buckshot and frag rounds. It's the deadliest hand held weapon conceived on earth.

You're being blinded by the "OMG ITS SO FUCKING COOL!" factor. Logistics and also maneuver tactics make boring old rifles and carbines far better choices for a military to outfit troops with.
>>
>>31650769
Cons outweigh the pros. It's fucking heavy, the ammo is fucking heavy, rifles are better than shotguns.
>>
>>31650874
There nothing special about it. It's a plastic she'll with a pogo stick jammed in it and shoots 12 gauge. Plus the time to sling an 870 breacher takes way longer then just pushing with the team
>>
>>31650869
12 gauge frag rounds suck dick though.

>>
>>31650910
You clearly won't be swayed.

Write a letter to the DoD informing them of their pressing need for AA-12s.

It weighs roughly as much as a SAW. If you are loading somebody down with weight, a SAW is far more useful to a platoon.

>>
>>31652418
Okay, I'm going to draft a letter to the DOD. Tell me what you think.

Dear military people,

I have heard that you aren't adopting the AA12. Why not? It's a full auto shotgun that holds 32 rounds, some of which are explosive. It's reliable as fuck, too. The youtube review of it by FPSRussia said it's self cleaning or something.

I know you guys use shotguns. Mostly for shooting doors. But you also give them to engineers so they can protect the tanks and AC-130 gunships they work on. Irregardless, you need to adopt the AA12 not just for them, but for people worldwide. We need this gun in more videogames. I can't think of a single game that uses it with the frag rounds besides GTA IV. Adopting the gun officially would help with that a lot.

All in all, it's a really good gun that is underrated and should be used more.

Sincerely,

Anon.

It has come to my attention that the Department of Defence has chosen not to adopt the AA-12 Automatic Shotgun. Its superior capabilities would make an incredible difference on the modern battlefield if you pursue further trials. I implore you not to abandon this project before running tests in the field.

>>

Shit, my unit actually had five of these things in Iraq in 2007. We were a Marine MEU and we would do squad patrols in the streets with them. We had a Master Sergeant who actually got three confirmed kills (confirmed by a TFP attached Captain who did a walk around AAR afterwards) in a building being used as a cache site by insurgents.

All I can say is those shotguns were way better than the M16A2 and XM177 carbines we had, especially in the heavy dust and sand.

I am really skeptical there isn't a military role for a rapid-fire shotgun that can fire explosive rounds.
>>

12ga is too small to carrying a meaningful amount of explosives. 20mm airburst for the OICW was deemed to small as well, the US mil bumped it up to 25mm.
>>
>>31653126
why use explosive rounds when you can use a grenade launcher attached to a carbine?

Because it's probably like the USAS-12 and that fucker can take out entire squads. Some even claim it took out several helicopters. The DoD determined that the AA-12 was too OP and that it made warfare unbalanced and never adopted it.

The biggest limitation for a shotgun like that is ammunition. Each drum only holds 20 shells, and you'll only be able to carry like 3 extra drums, so that's just 80 shots.
>>
>>31651692
Sort of\ maybe\ not really. trials were mostly favorable, in procurement hell. I think the enhanced 40mm is going to be the next step before we get a full on OICW thing to replace M4\203 combo.

>>31650830
I forget what's actually in the shell when blowing off hinges but it's not normal shot and you're not allowed to use it offensively in combat. Also the breach man isn't necessarily the point man
>>
>>31654584
Powdered steel generally. It scatters. You're not "allowed" to use it in combat because it isn't terribly effective past a few inches from the barrel.
>>
>>31654390
32 shells in the biggest drum mag, actually.
>>
>>31652367
So 7.3 KG for 32 rounds that are largely ineffective outside of 50 yards. Besides not really wanting to use the same ammo for breaching and combat when avoidable, that is still heavy as fuck.

A loaded M4 weighs 3 kilos, ammo is 2 mags per kilo, so the same weight gets you 150 rounds of ammo that is effective in more situations and can be shared with the rest of your squad. If you have to have a shotgun, a cut down PGO shotgun weighs about 2-3 kilos and can be easily stowed as opposed to the bulky motherfucker that is the AA12

Did I mention that the AA12 and it's ammo are heavy and bulky as fuck.

Yeah, every squad leader and had an XM177. The point men used M16s at first, but they swapped them out for AK74u SMGs to do house clearing inside of Ramadi. Most kills there were with those guns, shotguns, or bayonets due to the close quarters CQB fighting.

It's called a Hatton, it's a bunch of powdered zinc encased in a thin wax shell, the shell ruptures upon contact with a hard surface and the zinc sandblasts the everloving shit out of the locking mechanism of most doors.

You're not allowed to use it against people because it's not only a waste of a breaching round, but it is also markedly less effective than buckshot against an unarmored target.
