How much should I be paying for an SKS? I want to spend maybe $325 on one but that seems like it's becoming a stretch these days

For the one pictured? About $450.
>>
You can get a beat up sinobanian in that price range. The vast majority shoot perfectly fine, despite looking like shit.
>>
>>31650461
>The vast majority shoot perfectly fine
Mine goes full auto sometimes
So i only use it in the desert

>>
>>31649049
All SKS rifles these days are ripoffs unless you just want it as a collection piece.
>>
>>31650479
clean your firing pin channel you mong
>>
>>31650671
>Does this mean if i put lard in my firing pin channel i can make it always full auto?

maybe if you welt it in in the forward position or epoxy it in....
>>
no guns soon to have be hazguns here
any way to learn how to correctly field strip/disassemble a Yugo M59/66 while I wait for it to come in the mail? I've never even touched an SKS before and I'm afraid I won't have any idea what I'm doing.
Also is the lack of chrome lining as big an issue as people make it out to be?
>>
>>31650717
>Also is the lack of chrome lining as big an issue as people make it out to be?

no. just hose it down with WD40 or break cleaner pointing the barrel down and then run a few patches with cheap motor oil through.
>>
Quick question. I already own an ar15, would there be a point in getting an SKS? What are the selling points on it aside from a heavier round?
>>
>>31650773
It has a huge bayonet, and the yugos even have grenade launchers.
>>
>>31650773
being pretty cheap and yes being 7.62x39

none. a vz58 would be better. or an AK.
>>
>>31650773
don't bother, the SKS is a shit rifle that is uncomfortable as fuck to shoot because of the retarded grip angle/sight height, shit was designed for manlets.

>>31650773
If you already have an AR, don't get an SKS unless you like really like them for some reason. I am only getting one because I'm a poorfag.

>>31650773
For 200$ why not?

Every canuck should own one

I got my Chinese /316\ for $411 three years ago, so $325-$400 is a good price, but I've never been a fan of the Yugos.

no I'm actually srs. boars have been known to on occasion take 308s and still charge you. I've seen one run >40 yards after being hit by a 3006.
>>
>>31651688
nice
how'd you get the cosmo off? looking for a good way to do so
>>
>>31651694
So am I, /k/omrade. I know the strengths of boar, hence the bayonet, and ten rounds.
>>
>>31651706
Mine came with the cosmo removed, but mineral spirits for the metal parts and heat for the wood should work fine.

>>
Are you fucked?
I can get one for 200$ or less where I live. Russian, not Chinese.
>>
>>31650941
I have an AR, AK, and SKS and I adore the SKS above all. It's fun to shoot (not that AK/AR aren't) and I love the way it looks. In SHTF SKS won't be the best, but if I bought everything for SHTF I wouldn't have half my collection. Get it if you've got the money, I doubt they'll get any cheaper.

best way to clean cosmoline off of sks?
>>
>>31654185

>best way to clean cosmoline off of sks?

use it.
>>
>>31654185
I use mineral spirits (paint thinner works too) you can pick up a can at Home Depot for about $7. Brake cleaner/carb cleaner also works, I find the chlorinated version is more aggressive and cleans quicker but will also strip any painted finish (make sure to remove ALL wood before you do the spraying or you'll strip the finish clean off). Basically get a rag and a handful of q-tips or needlenose tweezers and get to removing every bit of cosmoline from the gun. If you use brake cleaner, be sure to wear some chemical gloves (it will melt through latex I believe) or otherwise you'll get a tingling on your hands and later a burning sensation (pretty bad for your skin).
>>
>>31654185
One more thing, clean in a WELL ventilated area or you'll get pretty fucked up off the fumes. Also, if you use brake cleaner, make sure to oil all the parts really well after cleaning as it will strip ALL oil from the gun, making it bone dry and very prone to rust.

>>31654687
a friend i know has a mosin, and he said that he just used a lot of towels and soap/water. Would this also be an ok route (albeit not as thorough?)
>>
>>31654742
Never tried soap and water for cosmoline, usually that's the recommended way to clean the gun after shooting corrosive ammo. If you do try it, make sure to spray the whole gun down with WD40 afterwards as it will push any excess water out (WD stands for Water Displacement).
>>
>>31654769
(stupid question) spray the internals down as well, right?
>>
>>31655097
Yes, disassemble as much as possible and clean every piece, then oil and reassemble.

they're shooting up in price quickly, they were 300 for a b-grade out of the crate less than a year ago.

You just gotta do the rounds of pawn shops/lgs/cabelas(rarely) every week or so and you'll find one in good condition with matching numbers.

I got this 54 Soviet for $400 +60 for a new bayonet. Lucky find in the US, canadabros can get them much cheaper.

>>31650479
There's an easy fix for that
