is .40 S&W a meme round?
duh
>>31647904
pretty much
it's kind of like "what's the point"?
>>31647904
A badly nerfed 10mm.
Yeah I guess.
>.327 sig
>>31647908
Law enforcement needed a caliber to match against .45ACP
>>31647904
Yes now can we stop having these debates?
>>31647928
Lmao just blatant lies over here
>>31647929
I honestly don't see how there is anything to debate
>>31647904
since "memes" are ideas and not physical objects i'm going to go with no.
read a book, nigger

but then females couldn't handle the recoil so they shortened it and made .40 Short & Weak
inferior to both .45 and 9mm
>>31647937
Well, to duplicate performance of the 10mm, but still, you get the point.
>>31647955
Its not even inferior to any of them. Just basically identical
>>31647941
Your right, only thing to debate is if there is anything to debate.
>>31647952
I'm not going to look into a reloading book for the history of .40 S&W's conception.
>>31647959
Still no
>>31647977
If you're gonna refute evidence provide your own.
How did the .40 S&W come to be, if neither of those?

Take your pic, you'll never find an end of sources. After the shootout the FBI adopted the 10mm Auto because they wanted something with better trajectory than .45 ACP but better power than 9x19. Jeff Cooper really pushed for it and eventually it was adopted because its a pseudo magnum caliber.
Desk jockies, fags, and women couldn't handle it and conveniently some asshole and the shothouse that is S&W decided that they had something that was basically the same, same caliber and everything, but get this: less recoil and fits in a 9mm frame! Oh, so amazing, sign me up! Except it wasn't and it fucking sucked and the FBI ditched it too after being too hardheaded to admit they fucked up for 20 years.
>>31647904
Now that 9mm loads can match the energy of it with a better capacity, yes. It's still a viable cartridge, but 9mm and 10mm are both better choices.
>>31647904
.40cal came out at a time when 9mm hollow point technology was not on par. Or so they say but consider this:
Ranger SXT is used by law enforcement all over the country.
Ranger SXT is basically Black Talon ammo.
Black talon ammo came out in 1991.
The FBI adopted the .40cal for general use in 1997.
So really there was no reason for the .40cal to exist ever.
Lastly, I am going to stick up the FBI a little bit. The 10mm gun comes in a larger heavier frame than 9mm/ .40cal and the complaint was that the guns were too big and heavy for plain clothes work and EDC. Which they really are. I've owned a couple 10mm, great for hiking, too big and heavy for comfortable EDC.
>>31647904
.40 wishes it was a 10mm.
10mm does everything .40 states its supposed to do without any of the downsides.
>>31648170
>without any of the downsides.
bigger heavier guns are a downside if you're expected to lug it around all day, every day for the rest of your career.
>>31648118
Minor correction, they started using under loaded ammo and S&W realized they could make a cartridge of equivalent power in a smaller frame and successfully pitched it to the FBI.
>>31648179
The people who are expected to actually shoot can actually handle it. The fact that most FBI agents never leave their desk is the reason that the round got downsized.
>>31648164
.40 does fairly well at barrier penetration. That's literally the only reason i carry one over a 9mm
>>31648211
Not even remotely close to what I was talking about.
You're talking about shooting the gun.
I'm talking about comfortably carrying it around all day.
There's no reason to carry a 10mm around all day every day especially if you're doing plain clothed work. That was one of the complaints from the FBI, if they had to do plain clothed work the guns were too big. I agree completely that they should have went from 10mm to 9mm as explained here >>31648164
>>31648141
>Now that 9mm loads can match the energy
I doubt that. Did you mean .40 can match the energy of 10mm? pic related Obviously, that's no more a true statement than saying 9mm can match .40.

>>31648240
I love .40 but dropped it for 9mm. Literally the only reason I switched was because 9mm = cheaper range trips. That's the only reason, not because it's better.
Consider you get cheaper range trips and similar performance. .40 is slightly better though if terminal ballistics are all you look at. Heavier rounds will deflect less through glass and do a little better with barriers as you mentioned.
>>31647904
It's a good midpoint between the full size 45 and small 9mm. Compromise of caliber and capacity.
357 sig is a meme round.
I love my 9mm and my 40sw.
