Had it gone our way we would not have wasted resources on a french invasion when the Italian campaign already passed breaking point in the allies favour.

Mulberry, while innovative, was ultimately a failure. Two successive storms (the worst in Channel history in how many centuries?) wiped both of the docks out.

The Brits had to revert to the US solution, which involved LSTs to land rolling stock directly onto the beaches, and Ducks and landing craft to lighter supplies to shore.

And Italy? Soft underbelly, my foot. The terrain was awful for an offensive, and even if we could have taken the entire peninsula, good luck getting armies over the passes.
