Tell me everything about Merkavas.
>>31645360
its a big tank
>>31645360
I also has 4 aerials, sometimes 3 but mostly 4.
>>31645360
They're shit and manned by conscripts.
you can carry cannon ammo, or have troops in the back, not both.
Muslim insurgents kill them easily every time Israel gets into a ground conflict.
front engine front drive is a meme.
they should have bought Abrams or Leopards.
>>31645360
i heard it has a mortar, how the fuck does that work?
>>31645360
The engine at the front means if a rocket hits it from the front it's a soft kill and everyone would die, you know if there door wasn't at the back.
Oh wait, the door's at the back, meaning if a rocket hits the back it'll shred right through the crew compartment making a schwarma out of everyone.
>>31645457
There's a hole in the roof
>>31645508
so it can only fire in one direction and one range? that dosen't sounds too usefull
>>31645535
It wouldn't be rocket science to give it a mount with some freedom of movement, and a sliding hatch while not in use
Exceptional HEAT protection and good enough ani-tank capabilities.
AFAIK it was designed to fight other tanks from prepared positions, so turret protection was more important than the hull.
Rear doors was added because they couldn't reload Centurions fast enough in 1973.
>>31645535
The turret moves side to side and the mortar moves backwards and forwards.
Why not just look it up yourself.
>>31645535
Its mount is adjustable for range and it's aimed at where the turret is facing.
>>31645630
>>31645659
well that makes sense thanks for the info

>it was designed to fight other tanks from prepared positions
Given that every other time people believe this about a Cold War Western tank(Stridsvagn 103, Abrams), it turns out to be bullshit, I suspect it won't be true about Merkavas either.
>>31645360
They can be disabled with a roll of quarters thrown against the turret.
>>31645719
I read that in one source (can't remember now which).
It said the tank was designed for Valley of Tears v2.
You might say that Merkava has still a few elements designed for defensive operations, but with good engine and decent stabilization it is no sloth in an offence either.
>>31645360
How thick is the front of the tank? I know there is an engine in the front protecting the crew but how much armor is protecting it? It looks only like an inch thick. It seems even a weak shape charge or auto cannon could pen it and get a mobility kill by fucking up the engine.
>>31646442
It's thick enough to get the job done.
>>31645360
It's a tank that's so large, it can barely be transported on normal roads.
It is allergic to kornets, hates long walks through open terrain, but has very nice curtains inside.
>>31646539
>Allergic to kornets
You do know it has one of the best, and combat proven APS systems, right ?
It would be cool if they combined the Merk with neat shit like the Type 10's engine,
Israel, pls let Singapore buy some, our tanks are old and we didn't upgrade them past A4, and the Indos are scaring us
>>31646442
>>31645424
For jew
Before anyone gets too excited about the "crew compartment" at the back, this is what it looks like.
>>31645360
from what i hear it's really shit, cos it's too heavy has very little range
it's good against what they go against but against a proper army or just any one who is little good they get BTFO
like the last war it was suppose to be invincible but some hamas fighters blew them up
>>31648659
Not gonna lie, it looks pretty comfie.
>>31648659
Here is another view of it.
The compartment is between the red boxes in the rear of the tank.
>>31645424
Oh Vey
>>31645457
it's also has air con and a fridge
>>31648694
>it looks pretty comfie.
Uh-huh.
Here's a shot of it with the ammo boxes removed.
>>31648706
Where the piles of extra ammo are being stored then.
It looks quite spacious.
>>31648690
>like the last war it was suppose to be invincible but some hamas fighters blew them up
No they didn't. No tanks were lost during Protective Edge.
>>31648728
>Where the piles of extra ammo are being stored then.
Yes, it's where it stores the bulk of its ammo.
>It looks quite spacious.
Well, looks are deceiving then, because it's incredibly small. And to fit more than two scrunched-up dudes back there, you need to get rid of almost all of your main gun ammo.
In reality, Merkavas are almost never used in this way. They have the Achzarit and M113 for that purpose.
>>31648562
Is eraserhead still alive?
>>31646555
>combat proven
hasn't been used since Mk1.
>>31650035
What? Trophy entered service in 2010 and saw action in 2014.
>>31645360
The Mark 4 is actually totally optimized for urban warfare against infantry AT weapons and ATGMs. The armor is not very good against regular kinetic ammo.
Which makes sense, because the Jews, through their control of America, managed to reduce the conventional threat from Assad by having America stir up a perpetual civil war in Syria.

The Merkava was a tank designed to fight the next 1973-style conventional war. Much like the wars the Abrams and Leopard were designed for, it never came.
The tank's style was heavily influenced by the Chieftain, which the Israelis themselves had significant input into. The British valued Israeli armored combat experience, and desired their help with designing their next tank after Centurion. When the oil embargo hit, the British chickened out and refused to sell the Chieftain to the Israelis. This experience motivated the Israelis to develop their own indigenous tank.
The tank featured a front-mounted engine to increase its frontal protection, in lieu of Israel's incapability to produce composite armor at the time. It also had an integrated mortar. This was done to allow independent response to ATGM teams, which terrorized M60s during the opening stages of the Yom Kippur war. The suspension is tough coil-spring, allowing it to traverse difficult terrain with greater ease than many tanks developed for use in Europe where the use of extensive road networks was assumed.
The tank has a relatively high silhouette. Since the Merkava was imagined to be fighting from fixed, defensive positions, this wasn't seen as a serious drawback.
Although infantry can be carried in the rear, this means the removal of most of the ammunition, and isn't commonly done.
The Merkava IV's NERA composite armor, while less substantial against KE projectiles compared to most other MBTs, is very modular and can be quickly swapped out, preventing long trips to the maintenance depot. It also makes upgrading with newer generations of armor as they are developed very easy.
>>31648659
those brown tanks, what they are?
tell me they are fuel tanks
>>31650370
ammo storage, in mark 3 and 4 they are packed individualy
>>31648706
How the hell did they fit 10 people in there in wargame
>>31650521
Wargame isn't a simulator.
If it was, the Spike missiles would be even more cancerous than they are now.

There are some other ridiculous clown car scenarios aside from Merkava IIA. Most IFVs are overmodelled and some of the helicopters carry way more people than they should, like 15 guys in a Huey. It's done for simplicity's sake.
