Where the fuck do I buy a cheaper M1A? I don't care if it's original or new production

Let me tell you about the M1A, coming from someone who has one. Even if you get your hands on a "cheap" one, they will break you in cost for everything else. Magazines are expensive. Cheap ones are shit and not worth buying and will give you nothing but problems. They don't like reloaded ammo, so you won't save as much and will be buying the shit. Chassis systems, replacement parts as well as aftermarket stuff like mounts and other add ons that are M1A specific are very pricy. I love mine but they are not for poorfags, you're better off with a PTR-91 if you need a poorfag battle rifle.

>want a battle rifle that won't look neutered being featureless thanks to Cuckfornia
>look at all the after market parts needed to bring an M14 and its derivatives up to speed
>practically investing as much as buying a fucking SCAR 17
Fuck my life.

>M14 ... up to speed
It's fine out of the box. Rofl. Having both a SCAR 17 and an M1A, I like my M1A much better.

Fellow CA resident here, I feel your pain. Hopefully the non complyening happens and the grabbers throw their hands up in the air and give up.

>up to speed
your fault for being a tacticool faggot

I'm also generally just looking for a neat-looking .308 semi. Not interested in AR-10s or FALs or anything like that. Guy I'm getting it for is a fudd
There are other options. Chinese and some of the sketchier M14gery builders can be had used for under 1k, a used M1A can be had around 1200.
Better to keep it simple. No optics, basic GI layout. Enjoy it for what it is.

Look into getting an FN49. They are scarce but quite a few came in .30-06 from Luxembourg and Colombia. Excellent rifles. There are also Egyptian contract 8mm Mauser versions.

Any recommendations for something in at least .308 with a flush-fit mag like a Garand has?

A 7.62x51 garand would be your best bet unless you find flush mags for ar type platforms. For bolt action either .308 mausers like the fr-8 ( big ring german mauser converted to 7.62x51 with cetme barrels. Dont go after small ring versions named fr-7's)

Also Winchester mod 100. Pretty cheap and common. Uses the same kind of 3 lug rotating bolt design as the Leader Dynamics rifles, which is neat. There's a lever action version of it called the mod 88 as well.
Also there's some dude on Calguns that's been trying to offload some kind of semi-automatic Remington .308 for ages now. Can't remember the model but it's over 50 years old so it's from back when Remington meant something.
