STALKER is definitely one of the most /v/ and /k/-core games out there, even if it's not 1:1 accurate with its gun design and gameplay.

To start the series the best way, Consult this Starting Guide,
then see the /vg/'s huge Stalker General for more tips and links: >>>/vg/stalker

Play in the release order. Start with no mods - only latest patch, OR get the full "Starter Pack" first; these contain bug-fixers and light visual mods that can help performance as well.
Leave big overhauls for later playthrougs. Avoid the "Complete" -mods. Always play on MASTER difficulty for best realism and atmosphere, and disable crosshair.

Don't give up in the beginning! The starting gear sucks ass and first area can be a bit boring.

Caravaneer 2

You start off from your underground Vault with a Luger, 30 rounds of shit RFN 9mm, and some food; and then tasked with searching the endless desert for your missing mentor. Along the way you have to fight off raiders and cultists, buy mercs/slaves/pack animals, start a revolution, trade in one of the best trading sims I've seen (each town/tribe is modeled down to the individual citizen and goods are determined by tech level), and keep you and your caravan from starving or dehyrading to death. Its a very complex game, pic related.

Also the developer actually posted here on /k/ a couple of years of ago looking for weapons, combat system advice, etc, and most of the suggestions made it into the game. So there are about 50 different weapons ranging from Crossbows to FN-FAL's to RPG-7; and of course a fuckton of Mosin's. There is also a full "realistic" armor system + a shitload of ammo types. Basically, the combat system is a more streamlined Jagged Alliance.

Its also free, although it easily could be a $10 steam game (like Caravaneer 3 is likely going to be).

Well Cossacks 3 is out, aka the gofundme for the stalker publisher/dev
>>
>>31637963

Not stalker but I had a similar idea.

>Be medic ordered to go into the zone for helpings of people.
>Anyone who tries to escape is shot because what's in there is supposed to remain secret to the outside world.
>Closer to the meltdown the more weird things get, eventually forcing the player to wear a gas mask, and seeing fewer and fewer groups of people, but better and better armed, as the areas closest to the meltdown are unlooted but require more gear to get there.
>Medic guy gets hit by ambush by japanese nationalist group who hates filthy gaijin on way to camp, they take you and force you to work and heal people.
>Place gets raided by other group, you're saved.
>They teach you how to survive in the zone so you can get back to the entrance, in exchange for you teaching people some first aid 101.
>Player character is massive pussy and never killed anyone.
>Sees other group on walk out with person who saved you.
>Hides with you, tries to hand you a rifle.
>Medic guy says no he won't shoot them.
>Japanese STALKER sensei asks if you would hunt to provide your family with food.
>Medic guy says yeah reluctantly.
>sensei pushes rifle onto you and into your hands, saying. "We are your family now, so hunt."
>medic guy kills a couple from behind, didn't kill the third and sensei finishes him off screaming

>Game features nightmares relating to ptsd from that every now and then when your character sleeps at night.

>Having to hide in buildings from giant bugs crawling through the street, radiation storms, etc, etc.

It's too ambitious for any indie team to make but what can you do.

The forest is pretty comfy as a 100% survival oriented game, your plane crash on an island with no firearms and packed with spooky mutants.

Didn't this happen but failed? I think the game was called ace of spades. It was a Minecraft clone with guns. The goal was to capture the enemy team flag. Your time was m was spent digging fortifications, tunneling into the enemy base, and fragging n00bs. Great concept, but terrible, terrible execution.
>>
>>31638176
Would be cool. Like a f:nv and stalker hybrid, with large urban swathes and some flat open desert.

I was always thinking of adding many more "modern" elements to stalker like a new and improved faction system with branching story line. A new zone is starting in like Japan or Poland and the majority of the population is evacuated, you are one of the few to stay. In the first phase of the game, you can encounter other survivors who compete for precious loot but pose little threat to you. Weapons are scarce and amateur artifact hunters and mutants are a force to be reckoned with. In the second phase, you explore more area but go up against organized gangs of bandits and stalkers. Maybe even advance sf teams of large governments looking to benefit from artifacts. Depending on who you side with, the story can take different paths, but the third act will involve an all out war between all the factions. Maybe if you pull the right strings, you can even get a fourth act with a huge blowout or something that demolishes all the major factions and basically everything is like a new game +.

These are just my 2 cents, the way other stalker's factions worked didn't really appeal to me, you performed some side quests but never truly identified as part of a team. You were just a contractor for hire. This was also the case in fallout. Like >>31638083 mentioned, it would be a cool idea to see the transition between a normal person and a stalker. The interactive storytelling will appeal to a bigger audience and guarantee the survival of the series. What do you guys think?
>>
7,62 Hard Life and 7,62 High Calibre are basically gunporn, moreso with mods. They're a bit meh, but with a couple mods, its gunporn city to a degree.

>Decided I wanted to mod CoP
>Downloaded the first version of Misery
>Before they patched it, it could not walk 50m carrying 18kg of gear without my guy running out of stamina and wheezing and panting like he's fucking Gaben
>Ate two cans of food
>Went straight to the barge to investiage strange glow
>Trapped inside barge by an emission
>My character fucking starves to death, not 4 ingame hours after eating those cans (which were retardedly fucking expensive of course)
After it was patched, I did enjoy it though, apart from some elements that were still total bullshit like the seemingly-invincible, dead-accurate zombies
Misery 2.0 killed it for me though, played for like a week and then uninstalled
>Economy is even more fucking retarded and unbelieveable
>Basic AK is so expensive it's basically unobtainable
>All picked-up weapons are in like 10% condition
>Mutant spawns fucking everywhere to a ridiculous degree
>Silent bloodsuckers
>Killed a guy with an F2000, go loot him and he has a broken AKM, I fucking swear
It went far past being a challenging, hardcore experience to just being infuriating bullshit and artificial difficulty, would not recommend
I went to Arsenal 3.0, am greatly enjoying it
>>
itt: people declare any game they happen to like to be /k/

TLOU was not /k/, it was a ridiculous third person shooter with no gun realism at all. STALKER has mirrored guns and NV is full of bullet sponges and AR15s that literally can't work. just because you like it doesn't make it /k/, even if the thing you like is actually uncontestably good.
>>
>>31638519

Novel game, but the G3 clones shooting 7.62x51 as the weakest gun in the game is a bit silly for most /k/ game ever. All the Far Crys since have had the same issue with weird caliber damage though.
>>
>>31639449
Yeah I almost want to reintall it to try the realism mod: I always loved the game, but couldn't stand all the bizarre inaccuracies like that
>Game has rifles in 7.62x51, 7.62x39, and 5.56
>One of the real-fucking-NATO rifles is the weakest one in the game, the others are all equally powerful
>FAL and G3 spray on full-auto with hardly any recoil
>Take gun from store, go shoot up one outpost, it's rusty and falling apart
The dart rifle in particular I remember would basically fail and break before you even fired all the darts that it comes with

>>
>>31639414
you can get lots of money just from hunting and killing Mercs/bandits as well as finding things. Although i will totally agree that everything is too expensive and the mutant spawns are fucked up. I can't count how many times i've been killed by random spawn mutants that you can't hear 3/4 the time. 2.1.2 is better though, but honestly the problems you just listed are still there, but probably to a lesser degree, i started playing with the latest version and played through the storyline, repairing up to about 5-10 weapons fully and upgrading them. I'll definitely try Arsenal though

Insurgency is pretty fun.

It has its flaws, guns are hitscan but that's an engine limitation the devs have no real control over.

A little light on content but if you can pick it up for ten bucks on a steam sale it's a good time. Mod workshop is nice, reskinned all the models, guns, sights, characters, replaced the sounds with what I wanted. Get the look and feel you want and have fun with a decently well made indie shooter.

I had fun with the general atmosphere of Borderlands. I'm not autistic enough to nitpick about stupid details/technical shit in a purely fantasy game, and there's like a million guns, which led to the only part of the game I didn't like: Sorting through all the specs to make sure the guns you could carry were the best and had all your bases covered. But loved the deserty, semi-post apocalyptic (moreso wild west I guess) feel of it, plus the music, plus overall just a good, fun game with pretty visuals.

>btw playing as Mordecai and popping heads with sniper rifles before you're even close enough for enemies to engage/notice you is fun

You wake up in your house to some odd sounds coming from outside. You look outside and see zombies. The TV broadcasts confirm that yep, it's the zombie apocalypse. Well fuck.

You rummage through your kitchen and find a frying pan to arm yourself with, and you fill a backpack with food and water bottles. You can't hole up in your house forever. It's time to step outside.

But you soon realize that the frying pan doesn't do you very much good since it takes a good 10 strikes before a zombie gets knocked over. In that time another zombie could easily sneak up on you while your back's turned and turn you into a tasty meat snack. You need a better weapon.

You wander a while, avoiding zombies as much as possible. Every little noise sends you jumping. You don't like feeling this exposed, not sure where you can go to find a weapon, or what you're going to do next. But you keep going. You try to break into a house but you set off its alarm. You dash into the nearby woods and watch as scores of zombies march on the house with the alarm blaring. You sneak away slowly and continue on your way.

Eventually you spot a large warehouse. It's got a lot crates scattered all over the inside, with plenty of assorted junk inside. You rummage through everything, picking up random crap that you think might come in handy later. But you soon put a lot of it back once you realize that being greedy means more weight, and more weight means you slow way down. Finally you find an axe! It fucks zombies up real quick, usually in one to three well placed blows. Perfect. But you're starting to get hungry and thirsty, and your backpack supplies are running low.

You want to search a nearby house for supplies but all the entry points are locked. You break the window and cautiously look around to make sure you didn't alert any zombies. You enter the house but cut yourself on the broken window's glass. Well that was stupid. You tear some curtains into rags and use the disinfectant you luckily find in a bathroom cabinet. You tell yourself to remember to change the bandage if it gets dirty.

You look in the fridge but the food's all rotten. When did the electricity go off? Thankfully there are non-perishables to eat, and the water's still running. Will that eventually shut off too? You stuff your bag with food and stuff your face with anything else that you can't take with.

After eating and taking a quick rest, you're ready to venture on again. You get 200 feet out the door before realizing it's getting dark, and you can't see shit. You retreat back to the house with your tail between you legs. After drawing a few curtains to make sure no zombies see you're movements inside, you decide to get some rest. In the night you can hear the faint thud-thud-thud of a zombie relentlessly plowing its stupid body into some distant door. You say a small prayer and eventually drift off to sleep.

You wake up full of energy. You're going to kick some zombie ass today. After doing a thorough sweep for supplies you set off down this sleepy residential area road in search of something, anything. You get good at killing zombies, damn good, and you leave a trail of rotting corpses in your path. Your axe is getting worn and janky, but you find some duct tape and nails in a nearby shed and find a way to patch it up for now. You find a shotgun and a couple of shells but find that it makes too much noise and keeps attracting more zombies than it dispatches.

Days pass and you realize there are only so many houses and businesses to loot in your town. I need to settle down and build a fort, you tell yourself. I need a reliable and safe place to rest my head and a nice plot of land to grow a garden for a steady supply of food. And we're gonna build a wall. It's gonna be huge, and we'll make the zombies pay for it...

You find a nice two story house with a big yard, and it's near the edge of town so you know there won't be so many roaming zombies. You board up all the windows and tie a climbing rope from the 2nd floor bathroom so you can get in but the zombies can't. You loot all the surrounding houses and stash everything in your new home. While you're resting and on your downtime you read some beginner carpentry and farming books you found.

Then you get to work chopping down the trees at the edge of the property. It's a tough job and you work long hours. Once time you use up so much strength chopping down trees that it took 20 axe swings to kill a zombie that had snuck up on you and almost bit off your balls. Another time you stay out in the rain for too long and catch a cold. You stay well fed and hydrated and get plenty of sleep and thankfully don't fall more ill. And yet you're restless and want that damn fence up already; you've planted a few crops to experiment with but the zombies keep trampling them.

A week passes and you've cut down enough trees and sawed enough logs to cobble together a fucked-up looking but respectably solid fence around your yard. Finally! You marvel at your work. And you plant a shit ton of crops, everything from potatoes to carrots to strawberries. But then as you take your watering jug to the sink you realize that the tap water is no longer flowing. Shit! Why didn't you plan for that possibility?

So you search the whole town and make dozens of trips from your house to gather as many plastic bags as possible. And you build a shit ton of rain collection barrels. It takes days, but when you're done and looking at your rows of rain barrels, you crack a sly grin and think, fuck you god, you can't get rid of me that easily!

Weeks pass. You're working on your second fence remodel to expand your homestead, you've gone on several expeditions to the neighboring town which is a good day's walk from yours, and sometimes you go out on zombie clearing missions around town with the eventual hope of thinning the zombie population to something manageable. You're slowly weaning yourself off of your stores of packaged foods and transitioning to garden food. You know winter's coming and you know you'll need to harvest and store as much food and water as possible. You work tirelessly still, but in the back of your mind you rest a little easier knowing that you've beaten the odds at least somewhat, and carved out a nice little place in this unforgiving post apocalyptic hellhole.

You're trying to gather as many sweaters as possible, figuring they will come in handy once it gets too cold outside. You're pretty sure you remember seeing one or two in the neighbor's house. On your last fence remodel you connected your compound to that house and have been using it for storage. You enter the house and start looking around. You enter the bedroom and make for the closet... and a zombie lunges at you from the shadows. You shove the zombie to the floor and equip your axe, and beat its fucking brains in. It must've broken in during the night! I knew that could happen, why did I let my guard down like that, you ask yourself?

... And that's when you notice the bite mark on your arm. Oh shit, oh shit. No, it'll be fine. You disinfect it, wrap it in a bandage, take painkillers, and try to sleep it off. I'll just take it real easy, keep myself well fed and rested, and everything will be good. You've been through worse, you tell yourself.

A few days pass and you're not getting better. You're noticeably fatigued and have a fraction of the strength to accomplish the things you wanted to get done. You black out a few times. Can this really be it? After all I've gone through, a tiny bite from from that bitch and now I'm as good as dead? With the last of your strength you take one last tour of your beautiful compound. You write something unintelligible down on a scrap of paper in the off chance that another survivor will find it.

This is how you died.

My dad is a Bosnian who came to Germany during the war. He was 3 months short of getting his high school degree and lived in Sarajevo during the siege. He doesn't talk about it but if you see his back you see a bunch of scars (I presume a stabbing by a hostile neighbor).

He only once talked about the time, when he was distressed (caused by the visit of a family friend who also lived in Sarajevo during the war): While petting his cat on a window a sharpshooter blew its head away.

He asked me about the game (he isn't big on videogames) and eventually i bought it for him. He has 400 hours in it.

I've answered this question so many times I can give you one question that will answer for you.

If you feel that hours and hours on end of knit picking you gear, dealing with zombies, dealing with bugs, slowly and painstakingly going queer gear item by item, constantly making choices on what to take and what to drop, searching houses only to find nothing at all, or a shitty torn jacket, running for ages, constantly checking your surroundings, knowing everything could be taken away by a sniper you didn't see, a bullshit bug that instakilled you, or accidentilly drinking gasoline some asshole left in a water bottle. If all of that, and even more, can weigh against some of the most heart pounding action that has left me (and even war vets) with shaky hands and adrenaline rushes. Saving yourself even more hours of work, and some of the best online interaction you could ever hope for.

If that sounds good to you, and you're willing to shell out the $30(?) and invest at least 8 hours to start to get the handle on things and get in that first fight, go for it, if you think it's too much to invest in a vidya, don't bother

Well thats the feeel of Stalker: Call of Pripyat with the Misery 2.1 mod.

But if you are going to play the stalker games i highly recommend Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl first, Vanilla with the latest patch and no mods. Its a fantastic series on its own. And shadow of Chernobyl can be scary as fuck without intending to. Thats what i like the most about it. That its not a horror game at all and it still maganges that "oh fuck..." if you are looking for a "loot" game this isnt it. There is looting but its from fallen enemies no real house looting or whatever.

But Call of Pripyat with Misery is a real grind man. Very tough to get good equipment and you constantly have to think about what supplies to take with you.

I absolutely loved it for the first half of the game. After that, it just stops getting realistic.

When the "armored" enemies were introduced that could survive being sniped in the head once, all my (fairly realistic) tactics were thrown out the window and it wasn't fun anymore.

I do like the role mounted weapons had, though. I always enjoyed attacking outposts on the water from a boat, using the mounted MG.
>>
>>31657542
It was the same whereever you went (on the second part of the game). Endless jungle with repeating outposts. All with the same kind of enemies, same outfits, same tactics. Starts to get boring real quick. Other than that just mortar the shit out of the enemy outposts
>>
>>31639480
I tried it a while back. It helped, but didn't make up for the fact that it's still a pretty tedious and repetitive game. Having to stop and kill a bunch of dudes every time you get to a crossroads gets old pretty fast.
>>
>>31636253
Planetside 2.

The weapons aren't terribly realistic, but the scale is different than any other FPS. I don't think any other game has that kind of sense of being part of a full on battle rather than just a skirmish of a handful of people.
>>
>>31657560
I know. My favorite thing about the first part of the game was that you had so many different options for tactics to use. I'd always go to a hill or tower far away to snipe like half the camp before I even started. But after the armored enemies show up, you basically have to Call of Duty it unless you have some kind of mounted weapons you can use
>>
>>31657560
>>31657564
Woah, friggin' hivemind.

On another note, I'm enjoying modded Fo4. Pretty fun running around in full tacticool mode.

I've also come up with a pet theory as to why the gun situation in Fo4 is so stupid - all of the good guns were sent to frontline units, and guns like Fo4's Combat Rifle and Assault Rifle are similar to Volkssturm weapons, designed to be easy to manufacture in small gun shops and minimize use of strategic materials.
>>
>>31657641

I bought ArmA 2 and the expansions just for this back in early 2013. It was exactly the kind of game I've always wanted. I had like 200 hours logged by the time the standalone came around. I was there for the influx of cod-kiddies and streamers when it went on sale turning the game into one giant deathmatch. Now development has stagnated, and the fucking MOD still has more features than the standalone. This is what happens with early access titles, you get all your money upfront for releasing an unfinished product and you don't have any motivation to finish it or make it better. What was the last GIANT early access game that actually got a final product? Minecraft?

I like planning out raids and trying to find weapons that are ideal in a variety of situations.
>tfw you finally get a FAL and put a grenade launcher on it with a good scope.
>AP ammo to fuck any dudes you see
>grenade launcher to fuck up muties or groups of enemies
>Real fuckin NATO

It's cheap as fuck on GoG. Or at least was when I got it. Definitely worth a look anyway.

And, it's collectively shit.

I hated the fact the weapons were always in such shite condition. Like, you'd finally find something nice and it'll barely fire a mag before jamming up, and it only sells for like, 50 rubles.

I mean, I like a good challenge, but that's taking the fucking piss.

it's not like that anymore, you can actually find weapons in about the 25-50% range sometimes, depends on who you find them on.
