Steyr's submission to the Amerikan advanced combat rifle program from the 80s. It's a caseless flechette firing rifle. The program got scrapped because their numbers showed something like a 50% increase in effectiveness when the program required a 100% increase over 5.56. Don't ask how they calculated that, because probably nobody living knows how.

The entire flechette thing was abandoned because they were totally unreliable.

Like, you could get a really horrible wound, but you could often get a minor one, or just get arbitrary misses, the slightest wind would throw off the projectile.

>>31627838
this is actually bullshit. There were many, many Flechette programs that the US chased. You are just spewing a meme you read here and never looked up yourself.

The flechettes were designed to buckle on impakt and rip open their targets. they also flew much, much faster and flatter than a traditional bullet which compensated for their lighter weight.

They were no more impacted by wind or grass than any other bullet.

deuces.

You mean like a C&R exemption? Well you could send a letter and ask, I suppose.
I mean, almost all the ammo in the world that still exists is pretty much expired by now, and the easiest way to get the stuff is to buy less than a few at a time from various cartridge collectors, it's not a gun you could actually shoot anymore, getting one full magazine (or the magazine itself for that matter), would be a long and arduous task, with probably half of all the rounds failing to ignite or giving you near squib loads of performances.

I suppose you could try to make your own ammo, but it's not as easy as seating a projectile in a casing with a press, you would need equipment that nobody in America or Europe has access to and which hasn't been used for decades, as well as the specific materials necessary.

I know there's supposed to be at least one lower or FCG for a H&K G11 that is registered as a transferable machinegun.

Why the hell don't they make modern rifles with the post 1915 Berthier sights? They look like they would be great for quick sight acquisition while still allowing decent accuracy due to the small notch marking the middle.

>>

Well you make them sound pretty good anon, why didn't the US adopt flechette rounds then?
>>
>>31630219
I'm sure plenty of people had this idea. I'm guessing the patent is probably expired, so you could probably legally produce them, but starting from scratch and getting into the gun business without millions of dollars on tap would be nigh impossible. Even if you clear that hurdle, you'll need to market a 100+ year old pistol to the American market for a cheap enough price to justify the purchase. I'm thinking they'd need to be sub $500 to even have a chance. They aren't good for CC, they aren't collectibles (until your company goes under, that is), and they have plenty of problems that people have discovered over the years.

I say go for it, but don't expect a huge success (or anything more than total failure really).

The problem from what I understand is that companies now days would struggle to even hit the $1,000 price point (at which point they would definitely sell) with the C96 due to how complex it is. Best you can hope for is a company putting out a cheap .22lr version that just looks like the original on the outside, or 3D printing steel becoming price competitive with machining (at which point companies could start doing all kinds of fancy shit without actually adding to the price).

.22 might be a decent compromise. It's not really a gun you could justify as anything besides a range toy, and so if it was cheap to shoot some people might just throw down a bit of money to have an interesting plinker. Now, if we're making it a .22, it still does need to be pretty cheap. I really don't see people dropping $1000 on a C96 clone in .22 especially when it'll probably be a straight blowback or something.

How did those GSG .22 Stg-44s and MP-42s (or MP-40s? I can't remember) go? I remember /k/ was moderately excited for them but the lack of authenticity really hampered their value here. I saw and held the .22 Stg-44 in a gun shop, and it felt decent but not worth $500+ or whatever the price was. I also have no idea how they actually perform on the range. I'm guessing magazines were crazy expensive too.

Couple of reasons. the thought that the soviets would adopt ceramic body armor, the flechettes were good but logistically we would need to retool the entire light arms industry. There were teething issues, and the guns did not meet the magical 100% improvement.

tl/dr: We are always on the verge of switching to a new weapons platform but never doing it because we have all this ammo and tooling to make all this ammo and our friends all use this ammo. We could make flachettes that meet the ammo form factor but putting a spin on them isint a great idea and you need smooth bores so new guns.

check out: SCF, SPIW ( XM216, XM144, XM110, XM645, etc) AAR, fuck. it goes on.

I became a SME for this shit a few years back.

the US probably should have went with the AAI ammo, and skipped the platform.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJCwC2MBrx4

Even then its all about trade off. Back then the ammo was accurate enough, but putting in the barrel twists required the flachettes to adopt a degree of spin stabilization.

I am getting pretty tired. Long story short. They are a great technology, and just are forever "too ahead of their time" despite being ready with current technology. The real downfall of the Flachette is where warfare is heading with the DARPA EXACTO project. Cant fit that shit into a flachette, so again they get relegated.

>The real downfall of the Flachette is where warfare is heading with the DARPA EXACTO project. Cant fit that shit into a flachette, so again they get relegated.
They aren't going to be giving every soldier EXACTO based ammunition. That would be fucking expensive and pointless when a good portion of it would be wasted on suppressing fire.

You realize that in 15 years or so it's going to be pretty much like video game auto aim, right? You don't have to keep enemies suppressed if they've been detected and 360noscoped from 700m by some jackass firing at threat outlines in an augmented reality display.

If we're going to be adding all the stuff necessary for auto aim within a few degrees to a gun, it would probably be much more effective (for cost and weight) to go with something more along the lines of the stabilizer stock they're experimenting with (see pic related) and using regular bullets.

you can buy both of those guns right now in California, well until Jan 1st. Although they will both need a faux flash suppressor to bring the overall length to 30", and also a "bullet button".
After Jan 1st the magazine will need to be fixed: ie "to swap a magazine you will need to break the action of the firearm".

if the box can be detached without breaking the action of the firearm, then it is illegal (only applies to center fire rifles with a pistol grip).

Also ALL shotguns that can accept a magazine will be banned from sale.

Get your stuff now, and you get to grandfather it in. Even if it is just the receiver, you are good to go.

They were fucking 500 before the ban. I gunbrokered mine at buy now for $750. Theres was 2 on there, mine was 20in, the 16in one people bid up to like $875. I have the rifle now and when I have extra money I'm gonna get the slanted gas block pressed on, barrel to 16.3.

Its worth is that is a Izhmash so its THE ak, as close as you can get in new production, so I guess collector value. I was originally going to make it "this is my rifle" but I've decided to convert it to as close as a stock AKM as I can and make a VEPR into "muh raifu".

Aside from collectibility, I don't see them getting unbanned, ever. Price is only gonna go up. If you have an unconverted one I'd put it in the safe and don't touch it. Maybe if the price is high and we start getting really fuckin gun friendly and start getting really friendly with russia I would go ahead and sell it.
