looking for a sling

cant decide over THE MAMBA or something along the lines. dont necessarily want a 3 point sling but needs to be somewhat "tacticool" that wont get all tied up with my kit and the vehicle, being relatively easy to transition walking around in kit all day to slinging without kit on

any suggestions?

Forgot to mention how I decided to try a horizontal draw for my knife and I have to say I kinda like it better than having it mounted normally. It doesn't get in the way when I sit down which is nice and I have no problems drawing that way. Might end up keeping it like that. The green pouch also has a little flashlight in it. I keep a headlamp in my chest rig so I figured having a dedicated light for my belt wasn't a terrible idea.

And heavier concealment

I took some with my digi flora gear on top of all the camos but I don't want to flood the thread or reduce image cap any more than I have.
My conclusions:
Multicam works really well in the fields around the area and places with lighter colored foliage, basically transition areas which is what it is made for
The flecktarn worked well there but it was mostly because of the heavy pine needle coverage, I found the red stood out more in less piney and more green areas
The digi flora worked very very well in the lush green areas around the area we were camping in, I'll post another pic after this showing it off

REALLY good set of concealment tests, even if you took them with a potato.

Its hard to find people that test camo in southern climate types, mainly mixed pine/hardwoods.

The thing to remember is there IS NO universal camo, there is camo that works kind of ok in multiple environments and then there's camo that works really good in one environment.

As far as a universal camo for the southeast, I would throw my vote with digiflora for most of the year and then maybe woodland or flecktarn for the dead of winter. However, these only apply for wooded areas and seeing as how crossing fields makes you either a green or brown blob, I usually go with multicam trousers and some kind of green camo blouse

Cadpat if you can find it, pencott greenzone, marpat and multicam tropic. Any of those would do great. You can find marpat cheap as fuck and you can find a lot of stuff in multicam tropic now as well. Cadpat is rare because Canada is gay about selling milsurp and pencott just hasn't picked up yet due to lack of government contracts and the popularity of multicam.

I've only ever broke in my boots the way I was taught back in basic. Soak them in warm water and walk in them for a bit. Switch out to dry socks when necessary and use thin polyester (like dress socks) underneath your normal boot socks. Rinse and repeat while adding onto the activities until they feel find with just your normal boot socks and dried. Granted, like a lot of stupid shit privates do, I wore the dress socks too much and it ended up expanding the boots a bit too much for my liking. Ended up using some after-market insoles to make it a bit more snug.

That said, I bought a new pair of T8 Bifidas as my old pair are too torn up to be presentable outside of the field. Didn't bother wetting them like my previous pair. Rubbed my heels a bit raw, no painful blisters or actual hot spots.

Condor is airsoft gear. Designed to look military but be inexpensive compared to legot or in airfag terms "real steel".

So stitching is subpar and instead of 1000D or 500D codura they use 325D.

Anon the meme is the truth. While they do have some ok stuff here and there, most of it is pure garbage. I wouldn't recommend anything more than a few pouches from them. Their load bearing gear tends to have iffy stitching.

I personally don't run armor, but you could check out things like the Banshee. Although I do remember Shellback starting to charge a bit more for them these days. You can also check out what TAG has to offer. I run their Gladiator chest rig. The Vanguard is basically a newer version of the Banshee but it costs about the same as what Shellback has to offer.

Hey I'm trying to swing this 81, been experimenting. Got a single 40 rounder in each cell, with the right-most cell reserved as mission specific. Either drop a water bottle in it or 2 Lancers (brings ammo count from 120 to 180). Wanted mags single-stacked to keep the profile thin as plates will add bulk even in a slick. Planning on throwing another 4 mags in the cummerbund. Really like Ferro's carry cummerbund that can hold as many as 8 mags...shit like that makes a slick seem like a decent standalone option

Double-layering socks (sheer underneath) is a good suggestion even beyond break-in. Soaking in warm water and walking them dry is a luxurious approach. I just wear them, walk around, squat a lot, and try to expose them to puddles/morning dew. I've found that small amount of moisture is perfect to help them mold to your foot a bit better without requiring a day of drying afterwards

>>31626606
Ferro Concepts is made in leafland. Forget international shipping and buy local
>>
>>31626309
Quite honestly with the amount of brown shades present with pine trees and the brown needles I would try flecktarn trousers with a digiflora blouse, probably a killer combo.

Although again, it restricts you to concealment really only IN the forest.

I've been meaning to test out a set of multicam tropics that look promising. If I had to put money on something it would still be mutlicam.
>Works in fields
>Works in urban setting
>Works "decent" in the woods
Not the best but probably sucks the least at everything, also easy to get.

It depends on how hard you want to run it.
I saw several civilians in Iraq who had Condor PC's and they lasted just fine, but then again they weren't doing what we were doing, they just rode along with us so they weren't really putting it to heavy use.

It's good for wearing around the house or on your property (for example, I keep a Condor Sentry PC around for home defense), but if you're talking patrols, etc, then you might want something a little better

It's ok for the price, but don't expect it to last if you run it hard. It's like everything in this field; buy once cry once. If you're really hurtin' for money, sure it'll be ok, but I would suggest saving up and getting something a little better like in the link below:

I still haven't chosen between the AVS or the JPC 2.0. Going to hang out with my buddy this weekend and try out his LBT6094 (that'll be my reference for a more comfortable plate carrier than the JPC) and see how I feel moving and shooting in it compared to the JPC and I'll make my final decision from there.

>tfw nobody you know can take good pictures
I understand this feel. I've got a buddy with a thousand dollar plus camera setup and he can take great photos with that, but if I ask to snap a picture with his phone it's downright ass looking straight into the sun. I've seen some of the works he produced for the local state park and I just don't understand.

>>31625205
BFG Vickers Padded sling is the only option. I've got two now (one in OD and one in MC Tropic) with both the plastic and metal options and they've goth been incredibly comfortable and durable, even on heavier weapons.

>>31625801
Digi Flora worked well because it's just OD green at any realistic distance.

Here's the problem.

If your search and rescue, you should get a hi-vis pack. IE. Red, Yellow, Etc.

If you want a tactical pack then go for multi cam, but I'd have the separate.
>>
>>31627927

I understand the sentiment, but most of the guys on my crew have camo stuff. OF course we have high vis vests and stuff like that, but I'm hoping to be able to get a pack that I can use for this and things like hunting.
>>
>>31627148
Eberlstock or Mystery Ranch. Pricy, but since you're actually going to do shit, worth it. They both come in tacticool colors and camo.
>>
>>31628421
I feel you, if you don't have the money and want only one pack, personally I'd go with ranger green/coyote/gray. These work for all situations (i.e. Multicam is great but what happens when you change your camo, you get a new pack?). If you have the money, I'd get a real tree pack for hunting, an orange pack for search and rescue. If not, I'd just get a ranger green one.

There's a few good companies out there, depends on how much gear you need to hold. Old ruck sacks are fairly cheap, reliable and can hold a lot.

>>
Do you need an actual belt to have a battle belt? I have a 5.11 belt so could I just loop the MOLLE over it or do I need female MOLLE webbing on a larger belt? Also is there any pain from carrying loads without the support of a larger belt?
>>
>>31629819
Go to thrift stores. Honestly the US has way more milsurp gear that gets donated because of how large your military-culture is on your society.
>>
>>31630076
This is pretty much how all battle belts work. You need a decent inner belt that goes inside of the MOLLE pad. If you already have 5.11 belt you should be good to just pick up the actual "battle belt" part of it. HSGI makes a decent one but it's a bit pricey.
>>
>>31630102
Okay thank you. I'm guessing you can use any belt for any MOLLE pad?
>>
How do chest carriers work with assault/hydration packs? I have only tried on a cheap Condor pack but I don't see how you can fit anything else on. Do you put the hydration pack overtop/under? Do you attach it via webbing? If you're going with a Hydration pack can you still put on an assault pack if the assault pack doesn't have a compartment for hydration packs?
>>
>>31630265

Most MOLLE compatible hydration packs work like that--On top of your PC and woven into the molle. If you need to put a pack over it if you're doing a longer ruck, then you can. A lot of molle hydration packs tend to be just thin enough that you can still sit in a vehicle with it on, albeit uncomfortably personally IMO.

Depends on what your building your kit for. If your building your kit for SHTF or a natural disaster of sorts, it is beneficial to have a radio. Most people just get an emergency radio for FM/AM, but it would benefit to have the ability to communicate back. Besides that maybe some larger tactical classes if you take those will utilize them, but I think overall it's just good to have one for emergencies. I'm not sure where you live, but they can be incredibly useful during a massive storm or something, as an emergency radio.

I'm trying to build a heavy battle belt with suspenders that essentially acts as a chest rig. What do you think about 4 rifle magazines and 2-3 secondary mags? I'm considering a 2x2 rifle/pistol mag pouch, and then a double rifle mag pouch. How do you think this would work:

The rest of the belt would be IFAK, two nalgenes in pouches, radio in pouch, then maybe a dump pouch or gp pouch.

This is the the double stack rifle mag pouch:
http://www.awsin.com/proddetail.asp?prod=51729

This is the 2x2 rifle/pistol mag pouch:

Does anyone know of a 3 or 4 pistol mag pouch that takes up approximate the molle footprint of a single rifle mag pouch?

Also why does tactical tailor make Multicam pouches and gear but use Coyote/tan molle straps to fuck up the look?

The cummerbund is superfluous to the side retention on the carrier. There are large straps underneath it, similar to the Banshee. Neither the side straps nor the cummerbund are elastic, which I prefer as I don't trust that elastic material. I've had it fail too many times from heat, dust and filth. There is a LOT of adjustment to the cummerbund straps that attach and detach to the back panel. I think I cut of like 8" of strap from all 4 of them. Tell me your build and I can tell you if it will fit.

An adjustable 2-point like a VTAC or BFG brand sling. The Magpul slings that can switch between being 1- and 2-point are nice, but they lack the quick length adjustment of the other slings, and a 1-point sling is honestly not nessesary since a 2-point can do everything it does.

3-points are full retard.

>>31630907
I, personally, would get an adapter for the handgun holster to drop it down a few inches.

The TQ on the medical kit should have the velcro cover on it opened. Small thing, but surprising how much fumbling that can cause in the moment.

You appear right handed based on your holster setup, but your weapon light seems more set up for a left handed person. Have you considered putting that light on the opposite side for better thumb activation?

Dummy cord or move that little Surefire light that is on your vest. It eventually WILL fall out of the metal clip it's in.

Overall, one of the cleaner and more organized kits. Good job not putting your sling on like a retard, which is something I see a lot.

>>31632154

Quality elastic cumberbunds won't fail you, you just need to not get knockoffs. Buckled straps will work, so you do you, but a good elastic on the vest is quite effective.

like you I bought condor because it was inexpensive and I'm glad I did. I would much rather have these pouches than none at all. I've slowly rotated out my condor gear for more reliable brands as I budgeted for them.
I'm also Canadian too anon and I know the sting of not having a wealth of tacticool gear to buy from at home. Spend some time shopping online domestically. Still $30? Considering how much I've been wearing mine as the season turns, I'd say do it now. But you should know: it's 'reversible' but the nightgrid side definitely *feels* like liner material. The desert camo is coarser goretex, and is probably meant to be worn on the outside if it's raining heavily. I've been wearing the nightgrid on the outside and it's perfectly comfortable and even has water repellent properties (stuck my arm under a hose)

Shit's simple, light, and incredibly versatile. Highly recommended

Really though >>31633262 is absolutely right. Don't feel compelled to fill it with random shit. The beauty of lo-pro rigs like chicoms is that if you keep those side pockets empty it can be worn under a button-down, practically hidden

It seems like there is a general consensus when it comes to the placement of most things but not edged weapons.
>>
>>31644376
Comes down to mission, personal preference, size, weight use. It's kind of situation dictates. I knew a lot of divers that would leave it near their shoulder on chest rigs. From my experience it's up to the user, most people I see carry something small on their belt.
>>
>>31644376
I prefer on my dominant hand side, and on my belt behind my pistol

>dominant hand
because I'm more coordinated

>belt
easier to resheath, and if I stabbed myself in the butt/leg, I wouldn't die.
>>
>>31644376
aside from character designs I've only seen knives on belts

now, me, personally I'm a huge faggot so when a knife I bought online shipped with a chest holster, I thought "what the hell". I wear it if it's cold enough to have a hoodie or jacket on so It's not immediately noticeable.

for the most part knives are just hold overs until I turn 21 and can get a cc
>>
>>31644463

What do you gear queers recommend for plates?
Are level 4 much heavier than level 3 plates?

For the back plates are they typically curved or flat?
I was thinking but getting the banshee plate carrier.
>>
>>31652033
>Are level 4 much heavier than level 3 plates?
Depends on the plate desu ceramic level 4 is lighter than level 3 ar500. Also level 4 is worth the extra weight since it will stop bigger rounds
>>
>>31652073
I figured as much. Is steel worth the extra weight for the possible (but unlikely ) capability to stop multiple hits?
Obviously if you get shot more than once you fucked up a long time ago.

I don't think it's impossible for an extended period of lawlessness is impossible so while no one would/should plan to get into firefights or anything,I think that it is possible to be shot at more than once over the course of several months/years. If ceramic is unusable after 1 hit than you would need a second set of plates.
Again I figure this is unlikely and I mostly just want plates for funsies and to be tacticool.
Is there a recommended website? What about recommended steels? I've read that /k/ typically shits on ar500 but what is recommended then?
>>

Level 4 Ceramic plates have stopped multiple hits of .338 lapua magnum I dont know where the "they aren't multi hit" meme is coming from

>>
>>31652824
its coming from ar500 fags that are emotionally invested in their heavy, ill fitting, 1980's trashcan lid plates that are going to spall into their jugulars when confronted with a .380
>>
>>31652824
Didn't mean to meme I've always read that ceramic stops a bullet by shattering and spreading the force out over the plate. Because of this ceramic can only take multiple hits if the shots are spread out.

This is only what I've read.
>>
>>31652963
It is true that they arent multi hit if the shot is in the exact same spot but the shots can be extremely close and still be stopped
>>
>>31652998
How durable are ceramics realistically? I've read the disclaimers the go on about how if you drop them they can also break. But it's armour designed to be used in combat so it shouldn't be that fragile correct?

For innamilitary use, the chemlites were most useful for marking positions. Safe routes, possible IEDs, whatever. Situation depending. Also good as low light sources for looking around if you don't happen to have a non-white flashlight source. The IR (purple sticks) are good for both marking and as improvised ways to mark yourself as friendly in night vision if you need to show yourself and don't have a battery powered strobe.

The military chemlites tend to last a very long time and of course you can't get the IR ones at WalMart.

For civilian loadouts, having them quick ready on a vest is pretty much for aesthetics. Chemlites are useful for innawoodsing, but not for reasons where you'd need to tactically quick grab them rather than have them in a pack.
