Are Taurus-brand reolvers (specifically, their 17B6) good, bad, or a horrible piece of shit?
Shot one a couple months ago and had fun with it, but I'm pretty inexperienced.
Just don't even risk it.

I ain't tryna tell you how to live your life, but save up for a Smith. You will thank yourself and your kids will too.
They're really very good for the price. They're no Smith or Colt, but you're not paying Smith or Colt prices, either.
Taurus revolvers are mostly fine, their overall QC ain't great. 50/50 really on MOST things but some say they are slowly getting better

Any models in particular? Looking for something with a longer barrel.

Love fuck outta mine. Got it for a great price and I beat the fuck out of it. Never had any issues

Also shot their smaller pistol. That one's a lot of fun, has a great sound.

I've been looking at a 686+ and I think a 4 in. barrel looks sexy, but to each their own.

I had a M44 with 8" barrel that I used to deer hunt. Loved that gun, and am sad I sold it. Planning on getting another. The barrel porting was actually very helpful. Would really recommend one.
I've owned a 6" raging bull in .44 for years now.
Most comfortable. 44 Mag I've shot and I really enjoy it.
But
Taurus does not have a great reputation for QC. You may get a fine gun or a lemon.
This is not nearly as prominent in their revolvers as their autos and I have never had a bad experience with any of the six revolvers from them I've shot.
Just be sure to always inspect a weapon well before purchase.

They're good revolvers m8. Goes bang and does its job

This.
I own a few taurus products and from my experience most of their revolvers are fine. Nothing amazing, but no issues aside from the lemons like with any company. Taurus has a lifetime warranty for all of their guns too btw.
I currently own a pt92, pt99, and a model 85 revolver of theirs. Never had an issue with any. More than I can say for kel tec, although to my knowledge they don't make revolvers.

I have three of them, bought partly out of curiosity. The first is a 990 Tracker in .22lr. I've never had any problem out of it and off bags the damned thing will shoot a 1/2 group at 25 yards. I put a Wiegand rail and optic on it for rimfire silhouette.
The second is a 44 Tracker in .44 Magnum. It's a handfull and the cases tend to stick with full power .44 Magnum loads. No problems otherwise.
The last is a large frame Model 608 in .357 Magnum. The gun has developed lockup issues after several thousand rounds.
My advice? Save up for a S&W 686 or Ruger GP100. If you do go for a Taurus, get a .357 Magnum Tracker, but go over it like you were buying a used revolver.
