We're already at thread 87 since we started numbering, neat.

I actually enjoy the numbering so we can get some cool editions.

Thanks anon

Is that a PKM bipod on that AK? What is that band behind it that you have keeping it there? or is it just part of the barrel? I have a 23" vepr im am slowly turning into a RPK clone. And instead of getting the barrel reprofiled for a normal RPK bipod I picked up a PKM one and just need to find a way to keep it there so it doesnt slide up and down the barrel.

>Type 87 Edition
You might as well have a /akg/ sks or vz58 edition, they're probably more similar than it is to an AK. Either way, cool gun.

I guess the 87 is just a type 81 with different furniture and less grenade launchery on the muzzle?

Anons, for the love of god, I need an AK mag source. I want some mags but I don't want to spend what chumps are paying. I know there are sources out there, I have purchased a bunch mags before with no issues from a website that no longer sells. I need another source. Don't make me pay these prices anon, pls.

Looking for:

RPK-74M 45 rounders
true black mags
AK-103 mags
5.45 30 round bakelite
7.62 40 round bakelite

>>
>>31606284

Been tempted to do that with my SLR. Wood handguards (possibly with dong), bakelite grip, and the stock polymer folding buttstock, since I don't feel like trying to get some wonky Russian aftermarket folding stock.
>>
I want to build an AK but I don't have the tools to mill out the receiver and other shit. Are there kits that can be assembled by hand with no need for massive tools?

shim that bitch up
>>31606490
>mill
you're more likely going to build a stamped rifle
>no need for massive tools
you need a press (12ton works, 20ton is nicer) to seat the barrel and rivets, plus jigs and die sets. if you are crafty you can make the die sets and jigs

not worth building unless you meet one of the following criteria:
>you know someone with the tools who can help
>can get your money's worth out of the tools
>are building at least four rifles

basically buy a parts kit then a flat or a complete receiver then go to work
>>31606594
>>31606463
if it were a snake, it would have bitten you
>>
>>31606490
You could buy a kit with barrel already populated and headspaced, buy an 80% pre-bent and heat treated receiver (stamped>milled, especially for a build). Then you just need a drill press, spot welder, and rivet jig. There are a bunch of options for relatively cheap ways to do this.
>>
>>31606463
Just give VAfag your money and wait for two months and you might eventually even get your magazines.
>>
>>31606690
friend, VAfag is relatively fast.

don't get into importing, and be very thankful that he did not have them sent freight to save money

>>
>>31606791

it's cheaper for small orders and inherently more secure
middleman is in the US, so it's super easy to claim fraud if need be
you also don't have to be a guinea pig to test a new source if you know a middleman with rep

if you want to take on importing without a middleman/proxy you'd better be ordering in bulk, have great connections, and be ready to put a lot of time into solving logistical problems. it's not a smart idea if you only want 10 mags

Yes, it's much more secure to have several large packages passing through customs headed to the same address. So much more discrete than a small package with a few mags in it. So much less likely to arouse suspicion.
>middleman is in the US, so it's super easy to claim fraud if need be

I didn't even know there were chink Maks.

Bulgarian and Russian are VERY similar, almost identical. Polish are very good guns, but look slightly different. Hungary made their own version that shoots the same ammo but isn't technically a Mak because the action is different. They are also good guns.

The only thing resembling a reliability issue that I've had so far is failure for the slide to lock back, which has happened 3 times; each time the magazine was either covered in sand or the gun was being used in the pouring rain. I've fired about 400 rounds so far, so I'd say it's doing pretty good.

I don't care how they look, I'm curious if /akg/ has used them , and has an experiential, considered opinion

Reviews online say they're the shit. Great. User input is what I'm interested in. And not some Spamazon review.

They are relatively expensive. An upper and lower solution for a side mount AK is around $200, just for the mount, optic aside.

that's normal, shellac has a relatively low tolerance for heat

if you have cosmoline/grease on your rifle, heat will draw that out too. grease doesn't really bubble on a rifle, it just becomes viscous and seeps out. bubbling is most likely the shellac

it will become rough and patchy looking, like this

never personally seen what happens in extreme cases, but from what I understand the heat causes it to lose form, and it stays in whatever shape it cools in. it shouldn't get much worse, unless you rub the shellac off while it's hot.

can you post a pic of your handguard? if it's not a weird pigmented shellac it may be easy to reapply, because you can easily find clear or off-white shellac in hardware stores

I got a C39V2 used and loved having an AK even more than my AR. I like the sound better, the easy cleaning, the cheap ammo, the feel, great gun.
It's not perfect, the gas tube rattles and the bolt carrier/bolt are a weak spot.
Read more and decided to trade in on an Arsenal.
Call the 5 biggest LGS within 40 miles of here and nobody has much AK anything.
One guy says he's been trying to get them but there's nothing coming out of Bulgaria.

Fine, you know what, I like this gun, I'll keep it.

Questions:
1. The bolt carrier shows wear, I think from the fool trying to cycle it with the safety on? Should I just polish the carrier or is there something I can touch it up with?
2. If I find a bolt carrier for sale, will it just be a drop in fit? Should I really even worry about it?
3. I ordered a full set of magpul furniture for it hoping it will hide the gas tube rattle, any other suggestions?
4. Are there any upgrades that /k/ recommends?

4K is just abysmall, U.S made barrels have better life, Will it go longer then 4k? definitely unless every round you shoot is mag dumped, the point is kalashnikov concern says their civilian made barrels were rated for 4,000 rounds, YUCK

U.S intended saiga's are not made in the Izhmash factory floor, their is separate building from it called "Legion" which is Izhmash's "custom" shop, which is really just their civilian line of weapons.

hey does anyone know of a fix for bakelite mags that rattle when loaded? I have a couple like that and it bothers me a lot.
>>
>>31612168
just a WASR with different furniture and FSB. some report that the optic rail is higher than spec on the M10 rifles, may have been to allow peeking at irons
>>31612202
they're still in business, and they still sell that model. Century's suit failed. They were trying to monopolize imports, and if that was their agreement with Cugir, then Cugir broke the terms.
https://www.mm-industries.com/m10-762/
>>31613424
that's just what the M10 is. mussle device uses a crush washer and FSB is combined with the gas block, and a few other things like RPD rear sight. in your pic is likely a Century RH10, the M+M rifle has their own muzzle device. also, that FSB is not correct. should have a round cutout

They are pretty solid in my experience. Never much trouble to re-zeo when I take it off and put it back on again.

Having items from both manufacturers, I would put there quality in the same ballpark as B&T, just without the Swiss pricetag.
>>
>>31613913

most likely. even shitty barrels get at least 10k out of them. I would guess even in 5.45 they should last 16-18k with 'regular' chrome lining.

That's how I am with my Garand. It doesn't has any problems but I just don't feel anything when I shoot it. Watching other people shoot their M1s makes me all hot and bothered but whenever I shoot mine I just don't feel it. I don't know why and I wish I did because it's a really cool gun.

Part of me wants to sell it because I bought it for really cheap years ago and could get around double my money on it, but another part doesn't want to sell it because it's a Garand and even if I don't particularly enjoy shooting it it's really cool to have.

I'm kind of in the same boat with my FAL, although I like shooting the FAL a little more than my M1.
>>
>>31614927
I actually enjoy shooting both of them quite a bit but whenever I am shooting a gun (of my own) and it jams it's like my heart drops down to my ass. I hate it. I find them both very shootable if they would just work.
