>>31602866
No. They have a level of combat training about equal to US National Guard, except with much more PT. Still, they are a mile above every other non-"elite" branch (like Marines or GRU). Outside of a handful of Guards divisions and separate regiments (the ones you see on TV), Russian conscript "infantry" are basically non-combatants. Source: personal experience.

You cant compare the old school with modern faggotry. Nowhere can you compare the old school with faggotry.
>>
>>31603825
VDV was deployed in Chechnya, both first and second war.
>>
>>31604119
NG is better than most people think.

The average pilot for instance in the air national guard has a lot more experience than the air force because of the number of 'retired' air force pilots who go into the guard after coming home.

The guard tends to get a lot of older veterans who are looking to settle down but still want the military in their life to some degree. Beyond that yes, training and equipment is very similar.
>>
>>31604341

Outright lies. Most Guard schools are shortened for prior service meaning that a 6 month school for AD will be a 2 month school in the Guard, split between 2 or 3 different trips. So where an AD soldier will get 6 months of continuous schooling in his MOS, the NG soldier (prior service) will get 2 or 3 different broken up mini-courses covering less than the basics.

On top of that, even if a new NG soldier goes to an AD school at the end of BCT, they will not receive the same OJT as their AD counterparts.

This means on average NG soldiers are shit and are absolutely not trained to the same standard as AD.

There are literally millions of female prostitutes in this country, I saw a negro prostitute on my street the other day. Conscripts wouldn't be able to compete, even if they wanted to.

It's an army based on conscription. Any community from which members can't leave when there are clear alternatives, turns into a shitshow.
Every single day for a year, you have a couple hours of free time a day at most, during which you are so sleep-deprived and tired you can't think. You can only hope the orders of your superiors won't get you hurt or killed, because nothing could be done about it if they do. Psychological pressure is immense and crushing, especially for the new recruits. There is no sexual abuse, but plenty of physical. However, most of the conflicts will be with your own squadmates, same fucking ugly mugs you see everywhere. The whole atmosphere of the place really fucks you up, makes you unhinged. It can be nerve-wrecking and very boring at the same time. People start enjoying retarded shit like goose-stepping or just saying really weird shit aloud all the time, like when you're standing in formation before dinner. There are megatons of pent-up agression, fights break out constantly and everywhere officers can't see. You communicate exclusively with profanities and obscenity, thankfully Russian language is rich with it. You're a mental patient by the time you're out.
>>
>>31605514
Wtf are niggeroonies even doing there
>>
>>31605987
Still sounds better than the diversity and tolerance experiment that is the US military.
>>
>>31606018
That much is true. For example, here if you're not of Western Russian or at least Asian descent, you can't get into prestigious branches like Marines or VDV, even regular mechanized infantry will likely turn down a non-white. Those of Caucasus decent can only serve in the lowly support branches, building latrines and what not.
>>
>>31606057
That's smart thinking.

Have you served with anyone from the US, or English speaking white countries?
Does that ever happen?
>>
>>31606069
That doesn't happen. Non-citizens generally can't serve. Some people from the former Soviet republics manage to squeeze in, usually through bribes, but that's it.
>>
>>31606091
Also smart thinking, but shatters my dreams of fighting for the good guys in WW3. I don't want to have to fight my brothers for Israel's interest.

>>
>>31611043
Only because they have RPG29s.
>>
>>31607348
Yes, of course. It's not as regulated as it was during the 2-year cycle times, but it is still very much present. Like before, officers acknowledge it and treat all "older" soldiers as not-quite-NCO's, use them as a tool to control the recruits. There's a distinct line between an average recruit and someone who had served for 6 months. Sometimes you can have normal relations with those guys, but that rarely happens unless you're bigger than Bane and are from the same city as them.
Physical punishment for disobeying the orders of "eleders" is a lot rarer than it used to be, but if you do, you're in a world of shit, you'll wish you'd get whooped on instead.
>>31611617
Conscripts? Terrible. I've talked to one of my squadmates, whose grandfather served in VDV in 1960s - that was the real deal. They had all kinds of regular training, were sent to live in desert encampments for months, the works. Today's VDV is just glorified infantry, a lot of units get no jump training and barely any firearms training.
>>31611712
Internet and films. You can learn anything on your own if you're dedicated.
>>31611043
Like I said, I wasn't in VDV.
My company was armed the following: AK-74M, PKP and PKM, SVD, and 1 AKM with a suppressor. Plus, the works - the worthless bayonets, grenades (which we never threw), MON-50 antipersonnel mines (which I saw once, we got taught how to set them up once and that was it). No AT weapons or underbarell grenades of any kind. I saw a Vintorez once, and even assembled it, but the only one who shot it was our commander (who was a good guy by the way, most of our officers were decent). On a related note, Russian infantry barely gets any combat lifesaver training, so in a real war you can expect the entire company to bleed out and die after being peppered with shrapnel, since there's one trained medic per battalion.

All in all, I think VDV fares even worse than that. The only thing that isn't lacking is their empty bravado.
>>
>>31604586
thats a fake scale
>>
>>31611574
The true threat is economic. Even if we got WW2-tier casualty ratios of like one Frenchman for every thirty Russians, the amount of economic damage those Russians could do before getting splattered could potentially be huge, and might even permanently sink European power and influence.
>>
>>31611574
To a lone Western Europe? A genuine threat. To NATO? None whatsoever. Russian Air force (aside from, again, a couple of elite units, deployed in Syria and in Chechnya before that) is in dire shape. Russia would lose air parity within days, and then it'll be Gulf War all over again.

>>
>>31612247

Isn't like all of the economic damage which russia could do to western europe based on their own economic ties to europe? Like if they cut off oil and food exports, wouldn't that be like 99% of the russian economy?
>>
>>31612367
What? No. If they bombed Frankfurt, there goes one of the largest air transportation hubs, one of the largest passenger airports, one of the largest stock exchanges in the world.

Even if they simply took over some large cities without doing any damage whatsoever, the economic impact would be tens of millions per day, as business is interrupted, companies reconsider investments, divisions shut up and move, etc.
>>
>>31612367
Yeah, they've already taken a decent hit from the Crimea sanctions, that's why they're trying to negotiate more trade in the direction of Asia.

But the slav is resilient and has a strong siege mentality. As long as they feel surrounded by the enemy, they can last a long time on very little.
>>
>>31612400
Well, that's all good and dandy, but that'll never happen, period. The second Russia invades a NATO country, the US will be forced to retaliate, and the entire world will join the war against Russia. It'll be like World War I in reverse, except this time Russia won't last three months.
>>
>>31612422

It's like a specialist weapon, an AKM that can be fitted with a suppressor and a suppressed grenade launcher. This complex was created in the 70s, before the VSS and the VAL. Why don't we just get VAL's instead? Money, dear boy. The army's as broke and corrupt as ever, we had to buy our own throwing knives.

Also, you use throwing knives officially in army? I thought that was meme, like being trained in throwing you shovel
>>
>>31612516
No, it's real unfortunately. Not like we did a whole lot of throwing, but we did. It's completely useless, I wish I got to shoot more. Nobody trains to fight with shovels, thankfully (although they did during my father's time in the 80s, no joke). I don't think 74 can be fitted with the same suppressor as the AKM. It's all retarded anyway, because AKM needs special munitions to be suppressed, which we didn't have.
>>
>>31602866

>>
>>31612556

Why is the army so shit, even in my dad's time it was already approaching slowly the post-cccp tier shittiness, but still at least half respectable. Hell when my grandfather was conscripted it was alright from his account
>>
>>31612575
For a number of reasons.
Most importantly, a XIX-century model conscript army is no longer viable in the modern capitalist world. The only effective "conscript" army of today is the IDF, but their model of service is very different.
To create a well-trained soldier of high morale and conviction, you need this man to be personally interested in his success at his job. In a professional army a rifleman is respected, well-paid and provided for. That way, he is motivated to learn, train and, most importantly, stay in the service for years to come, passing his experience onto new recruits.
On the other hand, a conscript will learn the bare minimum, do the bare minimum of work he has to, he doesn't give a shit about the "company" he works for or his workplace. He'll leave after a year and forget anything he might have learned, get completely out of shape and turn into a full-blown civilian in five years, except for his delusions of grandeur.
>>
>>31612575
Corruption my dude. Every country has its corruption, but russia just got all sorts of fucked up from the collapse in the 90s. Only way russia could ever get to first world military status is by having a stalinist tier execution of most political officials
>>
>>31612623
>>31612632

>>

>>
>>31604531
>somebody's application to the NG got rejected
>>
>>31612516
Kind of.
If the AKM uses sub-sonic ammo (which they weren't issued >>31612556) 7.62x39 keeps far more energy than sub-sonic 5.45 which just becomes a hole punch at best.
>>
>>31612632

>Only way russia could ever get to first world military status is by having a stalinist tier execution of most political officials

who would be immediately replaced by equally corrupt politicians.

>>31612623
I've heard that russia lack the stock to arm all its reserves if they mobilized, but I've alway heard the soviets massively hoarded military stock.

I understood it that the they lacked the modern stockpile to arm their reservists with what those reservist trained on, but they could at least give everyone a gun if they started pulling mosins out of the cosmoline.

Is that correctish?
>>
>>31612765
I remember one of the Socom games had a Silencer for the AKM I thought it was just a game balance option. fun times I remember there was speed reload you could do and lose the magazine and all the rounds in it.
>>
I nominate Tambov SSPB for a decent trip code seeing as he actually has expertise on a subject that /k/ could benefit from
>>
>>31603003

>>
>>31614985
There are some old weapons left over in warehouses, but not nearly as many of there as there were in the 90s. Most of those old AKMs and SKSs were either sold off or destroyed, and nothing replaced them.
Russia may be more corrupt than ever, but it is no longer economically retarded when it comes to production of weapons and military hardware, it's all very capitalist: no overproduction, no fucking nickel-chrome alloy used to make bayonets, none of that Soviet shit.

But anyway, all that doesn't matter. Thing is, even if there were stockpiles, there's no logistics, command and control system in place to distribute and supply those weapons with literally tens of millions of rounds of ammo per week that's necessary for a population-wide guerrilla war, there's nothing like that. Populace has no training with anything other than an AK-pattern rifles (at best), there's no civil defense or paramilitary network in place, no gun culture, nothing. Red Dawn can't happen in Russia.

All those plans of "arming and organizing the populace" are destined to fail inherently - see Enver Hoxha's retarded and failed Bunkerisation defense plan.
>>
>>31604119
No. Don't let anyone tell you that.

Lets put it in simple terms: a typical ng light infantry company will only "work" for ~36 days a year. During that time, they will have to accomplish all the same bullshit death-by-powerpoint type training that active units have to, along with the actual training.

An active light infantry company, on the other hand, will execute the same METL training over the same year, but each step only the way will be done in far more detail.

Example: while the ng will cram squad and platoon live fires into the same 2 weeks, whereas active will spend 2 weeks doing dry fire situtional exercises.

The result is a noticeable difference in quality of troops.

Inb4 muh casualty rates. Siting on forecpro in bagram is quantifiably safer than patroling in nuristan.
