the PK-series aren't LMGs, they're GPMGs. That being said: while I'd kill for a PKM, for practical purposes I'd take an RPK because it shares magazines and ammunition with AKs. Also, the RPD is more or less objectively inferior to the RPK so there really isn't much of a reason to choose it.

PKM is GPMG and RPK is more of a SAW or automatic rifle

There are small physical differences such as effective range and ammunition type but here's the jist of why it's different.

LMGs are support weapons, used in a stationary position to support a large (such as platoon level) attack, whereas a SAW attacks with the fireteam

A GPMG can be used in all of these roles, take the MG42 for example

Can be found Tripod mounted, Bipod mounted, fixed to vehicles, carried into the firefight as a SAW or stationary as a static support weapon.

You're comparing a specific term that is used by US military vs a term that is used by everyone else in the world
