Would it really be that effective compared to modern rifles?
Could it have really been a success?

HINT: No German trial documents have ever been published, so all answers you get in this thread will be unsubstantiated bullshit. Anyone who disagrees can feel free to link to said documents, otherwise disregard their posts.

It would have been rejected eventually because of the 1/3rd of the military who would be too fucking stupid to maintain it properly.

True, however other experiments with caseless ammunition have run into a consistent problem: Heat dissipation.
When the burning gunpowder is contained in a brass cartridge, heat is transferred to the brass, which is then almost immediately ejected. Only a little of the heat is transferred to the chamber walls. With caseless ammo, this heat removal doesn't take place, and I've never seen anything that suggests that Kraut Space Magic included any other clever cooling techniques.

it has a significantly thicker barrel in the back towards the chamber probably for this reason.

No, because the internals were too complicated.
The average grunt would have been unable to take the thing apart and put it back together
>>
>>31594979
the average grunt is not supposed to most likely.
ever heard of anyone that had to take apart his fn2000 on the field?

what countries use the FN2000 as an infantry rifle?

and..why? FN makes far better rifles than that.

in retrospect the heat removed with the brass is probably insignificant. hardly an issue.

I don't think its performance would be any better or worse than the rank-and-file rifles you see in other developed nations.

But the idea that this rifle is like a Swiss watch compared to M16s, AK-74s, L85s, FN-FNCs, etc, which are all far easier to build and would be comparatively cheaper means this rifle would have not have been expensive.

I don't remember what the name of the video is, but it showed a craftsman machining little gears and lots of tiny parts to assemble the gun.

>>31595075
the point is it's kinda hard to maintain on the field but in return it is hardly ever an issue. because it's as close to zero maintenance as it gets.
>>
>>31595075
it's a pretty okay rifle for grunts, truly ambidextrous no flying hot brass, high rpm bursts accurate low maintenance, ergonomic

I remember reading an article a while back talking about the LSAT version of caseless ammo. Supposedly the cook off problem had been solved, but there where issues with getting the chamber to seal. Both in normal cased and cased telescoped designs, the case seals it off but with caseless hot gases where released back into the rifle and into the users face. They never really found a suitable solution in time, I guess.

i only know one serious issue with caseless
when it gets wet it has problems fitting in.
which makes it utterly impractical compared to traditional rounds.
