I'm torn between getting a new milsurp gun or buying an AK parts kit. I sold a No. 4 Mk 1 and used some of the money to pay off debts and I'm left with $103

I was going to put it towards a different milsurp bolt-action, but I'm now craving an AK. So I was wondering if I should put it towards an AK parts kit instead.
>>
>>31592658
yes get the ak parts kit
>>
What kind of guns can I expect to find in some shitty pawn shop or gun store for sub $200? I'm expecting sporterized yugo mausers and mosins, am I right?

Or am I going to find fuckall for guns that can hunt deer for less than $200?
>>
>>31592658
AKs aren't cheap to put together. A lot cheaper if you have access to a machine shop, but not anywhere close to $103 cheap.
>>
>>31592855
I knew I wasn't going to be able to buy one for $103, I mean that once I start sitting on it and it grows should I buy an AK kit or a new milsurp rifle?
>>
>>31592658

An AK build with minimal tools and a good kit will run you about $1200.

>$400 for the kit
>$120 for the barrel
>$150 12 ton press
>$10 rivets
>$80 bolt cutters with riveting attachment
>$200 trigger guard riveting jig
>$60 headspace gauges.
>$100 100% receiver
>$50 parkerizing kit for barrel and receiver.
>>
>>31592931
I was gonna have a qualified smith do the build for me.
>>
>>31592830

You might find a mossberg 500 with a slug barrel on it around that range.
>>
>>31593000

>checked

But yeah thats probably the cheaper way unless you have space for all that stuff and plan on doing more than one or two builds
>>
>>31592658

You could build a nice AR for less than than any AK build. PSA has their premium Carbine kit on sale with a CHF barrel made by FN for $479.99 this weekend. Throw it on an anderson lower for another $50 and youre gtg.

I have an FAL and AK built from parts. The smith charged about $40/50 for the FAL and the AK was made at my friend's house because he's make several. A smith shouldn't charge too much to make one. An AK should be $100 or so.

Friend of mine gave me his dad's 1022 sporter with a bone collecter 3-9 scope on it.

He says that his dad can't get the scope sighted at all, has it on weaver rings and he says when he shoots it the first shot will be 3 feet left of target and the next 3 feet right of target. At 20 feet.

Is his old man just old, or is it the gun/scope?

When I inspected it the bore looked bright and clean, but the crown did have one mark on it that looked like a ding, a faint one.

I know the crown of the barrel is a huge contribute to accuracy, but that big of an issue?

Used or new? If yoru agoraphobia isn't too bad and you still have issues I'd take it up with where ever you bought it, might have a defect to it.

Again I have no experience with crossbows and what can go wrong with them regarding sighting.
>>

That sucks man. Maybe I'm just lucky but I have a condor plate carrier and while given it's never seen combat, it's held up very well. Was there a point in time when there stuff was noticeably more shitty? Maybe I got something from a "good" batch.

Same thing for rothco stuff. I never knew how much of a meme Rothco was before coming here, but my $50 3-day transport pack is very rugged and has all the features I want a great price.

What's a parts kit? Is it an incomplete set of parts for a given firearm, which requires a qualified gunsmith and machinery to put together, or is it more like a model kit that you can build in your garage?
>>
>>31594587
>Anybody know anything about charging handles being a bit.. "sticky" ? Feels like it shouldnt be this hard to pull

If you just bought it and haven't run a bunch of rounds through it, do that and see if it loosens up a bit after a bit. Also try disassembling it and see if there's some factory grease or lubricant on it. If there is just clean it off with whatever you like to use.

>>
>>31594629
When people talk about "parts kits" they're generally referring to parts for an AR you can put together. When assembling an AR, you generally buy a stripped lower receiver, a lower parts kit which contains the trigger and all the pins/springs/etc you need for all the controls and such to work, and an upper receiver (which can also be bought stripped and with a parts kit).
>>
>>31594651

Upper parts kits don't usually exist that much. If it does it's just the dust cover and charging handle. But u need to get a barrel, barrel nut, gas tube, gas block, flash hider, sights, free floating rail, and then also a buffer tube, buffer tube spring, buffer, and stock to go with the lower and lower parts kit usually

Has anyone ever completed an 80% lower for NE? Is it even worth it to buy an 80% if you don't have many tools at home besides a drill?

How precise do you need to be when completing an 80%? If you fuck up a bit, will it be okay or completely ruin the functionality of the gun? Completed, stripped lowers are proving to be a pain to find, and the rollmarks on these lowers are pretty cool. I assume they aren't serialized, so that needs to be the first thing I do if I want to finish it, right?

Try
>$400 for kit + barrel
>$80 for 80% reciever, new trigger, rivets, and pin
>$100 for toth barrel tool
>$20 for a pair of bolt cutters that you can grind down to make a rivet squeezer
>$80 for harbor freight stick welder
>$40 MAPP gas torch

After that all you really need is a dremel tool, hammer, bench vice, and drill which most people already have. I would also recommend a no go gauge, the go gauge is optional, just check with live rounds.

If you are mechanically inclined, have patience, and put in the elbow grease, then this is everything you need. Also if you start with a 100% receiver then you don't need the welder, and the hardest part is done.

no, you do not serialize them, you are not a manufacturer.

once you make a "firearm" you may not transfer it to someone els, that lower is yours and only yours for forever.

but honestly who the fuck would know?
>>
>>31594668
>generally referring to parts for an AR
Nah. There are AR parts kits, but the majority are slavshit. There's a slew of other SMGs and assorted assault rifles available as parts kits as well.

Before you get your hopes up, if you're not familiar with parts kits, the atf has changed the rules over time as to what is able to be sold as a parts kit.

Long ago, in the good old days, you could get away with cutting the receiver into a few pieces with a chop saw and you were GTG, with barrel and everything else intact, including full-auto fire control group, if it was made that way originally. (easy to reweld)

Nowadays, to import them, the receiver has to be torch cut at least 2 places with a huge gap. Many will omit sections of the receivers or the whole receiver, and barrels are often omitted or drilled so as to be useless.

Legally, you have to buy or make a new receiver (many have 80% or 100% receivers on the market of varying quality) and possibly a barrel, as well as whatever it takes to build it as a semi-auto rather than full-auto, unless you're a properly taxed dealer.
>>
>>31595582
You can transfer anything you can build.

I just bought an upper and they seemed to be pretty widely available. I've called around to 4-5 gun shops in the area and can't find a stripped lower
(my post here >>31594825)

Since the lower is actually the firearm, I expect them to be flying off the shelves for the next few weeks and even longer if Hillary really does win. I need one and some mags as well, but don't really know what is good quality and what's shit. I guess I'll just stick with pmags and try to find a deal on some gen 2s or something.
>>
>>31595582

nah, you can transfer it and even sell it.

what you cannot do is make it with the intent to sell it, so 30 years down the line you can sell it.

same with homemade firearms.
>>
>>31595067
That is a far inferior method of heat treatment.

So much so that it isn't worth considering if you have expectations of longevity. un-heat-treated receivers will bend and warp easily with even minor use.

Try doing pushups on your AK and watch it start to crumple in areas it shouldn't.

The absolute best way to start with an 80% is a childersguns heat treated blank, excellent steel.

If you can find other heat treated blanks those would do well too.

He will need calipers and possibly a depth mic to measure where to weld in the rails.

$100 harbor freight spot welder is absolutely better than trying to stick weld those rails in there. I bought the $20 AK-builder copper tong for it too. When spot welding, stop in between welds to allow the tongs to cool off. If you do not, the receiver will stick to your tongs, and create large divots in the steel. It's obvious to notice spot welds where the tongs were too hot. Manufacturers have much better water-cooled tongs.

Oh and also headspace gauges, drill bits, a drill press, etc.

5mm and 7mm reamer for the trigger pin holes.

>>31592658
Along with the childersguns heat treated 80% blank, I highly recommend the pieces of plastic they sell for drilling the blanks. They are $10 or so, but are invaluable for properly locating those holes.

You will want to drill them with a center-drill that won't wobble or flex away from the center of the hole, then expand the holes with the proper size drill bits.

Hammer and trigger pin holes should be reamed to final diameter with reamers (5mm and 7mm).

Remember that the childersguns blank is a hardened steel, so use sharp drill bits with a flatter cutting edge on the end for drilling hard thin steel.

Don't let the receiver "catch" on the drill bit and start swinging around on your drill press, clamp it down.

They're aircraft aluminum.

And the machining and quality control is different from brand to brand, even if they're all made in mostly the same places.

Billet AR lowers are not cast/forged and then machined, they are machined from a solid block.

I would get a nice billet AR lower or two if I had the money for it.

Get a matched billet upper too.

Are you basing your views on MAPP heat treating on personal experience or from what you've seen others do? Because I've seen egged out trigger pin holes on receivers too, and I've also seen rails with the welds so weak they're snapping off, crookedly bent receivers, and barrel pin holes drilled so poorly you could fit a needle halfway through the trunnion with the barrel pin installed. A number of home built AKs are done very poorly, but just because a method is poorly used by a shitty craftsman does not make it a shitty method.

Based on not heat treating the entire receiver, as well as personal experience.

Machinists do nigger rigged heat treating, but it isn't intended to be a permanent solution.
>>
>>31598100
shit, it didn't post because the file is too large it's basically a little brass circle with "187" engraved into it that got stamped into the stock.
>>
>>31597965
* until it warps

It's easy to heat things up, but to keep them from warping while you hold them at temperature long enough is hard.

Slowly reaching the temperature you want is also time consuming.

Generally a mapp torch will be a shitty heat treatment.
>>
>>31598124

things don't warp when you heat them up that much, they warm when you quench them, and if you properly preheat your oil and directly put the receiver in that and move it up and down rather than side to side to prevent currents and unequal quenching it aught to be fine.

AK blanks are 4130 right? that means they don't have a large soak time nor any reason why you would need to carefully bring the temperature up.

however regardless as >>31597991 said the best way is not to be an autist and just buy a hardened receiver.
>>
>>31598258
it's such a thin piece it's likely to warp to shit when trying to heat it unevenly, of course.
>>
>>31598422

well of course, which is why I suggested coals instead of wood to make a large coal bed instead of randomly using wood, or even better yet, not doing this shit in the first place.

(Asked this in the AR general, but didn't really get much help.)

Anyone have an insight into detachable carry handles? I really want to get one, but I seem to have run into a few issues.

1. Almost no one has them in stock. Are they not really being made anymore? Are they just being scooped up as cheapish gifts for AR enthusiasts?

2. Why does it seem like you can either buy a $20 chink carry handle, or a $100+ US made carry handle? Does quality actually matter that much for this part? I think I'll probably go with the one from Aero Precision, I like the way it looks and it sounds like it's high quality. On the other hand, would a $20 chink one work just fine? I'm not expecting to get amazing accuracy, but I don't want to buy one that'll strip out when I first tighten it down.

Only ever had rifles and shotguns here, never had a handgun before. Pic related caught my eye, and it goes for a bit cheaper than the Beretta 92s. Watched Hickok45 review one and he seemed to like it. Are they any good for a CC? I feel like 30 rounds of 22 mag should be more than enough to deal with whatever threats presenting itself.

1. They just don't make that many of them. Everyone wants the tacticool red dots or other optics
2. Not sure on this one. I spent $80 on am Anderson and it seems fine.
Don't wrench down on the screws though. They are meant to be hand tightened
>>
>>31599219
They are not in that much demand because it covers the whole upper receiver rail, precluding most people's options to mount an optic and mounting optics ontop of that is questionable with anything that doesn't mount like an acog.

There are fixed rears that mimic special dudes in the military when they were modifying their carbines by cutting off the handle for optics. Otherwise a flip up will do just fine.

If you do want one, I can't recommend the chink handles. The ncstar handle on midwayusa has a wide spread of reviews. Lots of the lower end reviews show sloppy fitting, roll pins and parts falling off, poor looking finish, sight alignment falling out. Others say its alright, but it is clear that going that route is a bit "luck of the draw" on functionality.

If you buy a 60-100 dollar one you won't look back once for the chinese stuff. You'd be surprised how precise you can get with an aperture sight with windage and elevation adjustment.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the input. Like most things in life, this seems to be a "buy once, cry once" kind of deal.
>>
>>31603512
Mostly what people are willing to pay I guess. The ADL in your pic is pretty basic, synthetic stock, blued, shitty scope premounted. The scope is likely some cheap shit, Remington probably buys them for $10 each or something. The 700 CDL in that pic is a much more classic deer rifle, which people will spend more money on. Stainless finish, which is like a poor man's nickel (fudds love shiny things). Wood stock which, even if it's laminate or some cheap wood with a glossy finish, is more desireable to the traditional kind of fudd. The barrel is also fluted, which fudds love. It also seems to have a better trigger.

Basically, add $200 for all the things the 700 CDL has which are different than the 700 ADL and you get that price.

Now, which is the better gun? Probably the CDL, but only because the trigger is better. Is it worth $500 more? Probably not, but fudds will drop $800 on it because it looks more like what they're used to.

>>
>>31610568
FN/FAL is a good weapon, albeit pricey. I rarely ever see an FAL/L1A1 sell for under $800 beat-to-shit, much less one made by FN.

For that kind of money, you have a lot of options as far as brand-new AR's. I just bought a Colt LE6920 for $899+tax (about $989 total). It's a good weapon, without a doubt. As far as affordable .308's/7.62NATO's go, your options are somewhat limited, there is the Century Arms CETME/C308 for around $750 or so, but it's been getting a bad reputation over some unintentional discharges relating to the firing pin. There is Springfield's excellent line of M1A's, they range from about $1200-$3000 depending on model. If you're in Canada, though, there is a much more affordable variant of the M1A/M14 manufactured by Norinco called the M305 priced around CN$650. Norinco also has another interesting offering, the T97, but this sells for around CN$750-$1000 or so and uses .223/5.56NATO.

I personally don't like 1-point slings at all, and would like to talk you into a good 2-point adjustable sling.

However, if you're already set on the 1-point, it should be mounted near the base of the receiver. Either using a plate that goes under the castle nut, or a replacement castle nut with a swivel or QD, or if you're turbopoor a DIY setup on the very front of the buffertube using 550 cord and tape.

The reason for this position is that the rifle will not hang down extremely low and whack you in the legs/nuts as much (and with a standard civilian 16 inch barrel, you're already pushing it even with a proper 1-point setup), and you will be better situated to grab the grip.

You want the pic related location for your mount.

link me?
ive always been in the understanding that once you make something, its yours and only yours.
>>
>>31615433
You need to first understand how external ballistics work.

The basic understanding of how rifle bullets travel through the air is that the non-round-ball shape of bullets is aerodynamically unstable. The center of gravity and center of drag are not in the same place. Because of this, the bullet will turn on end when flying through the air without rifling, producing unpredictable external and terminal ballistics. When the bullet rotates around the center of gravity, the effect of the offset center of drag is evened out for all directions of the bullet and, when stable, will straighten the direction of the bullet.

Length of the barrel is mostly irrelevant. What is important is the shape and weight of the projectile. Velocity alone has a fairly small effect on stability (outside the transonic case) compared to the construction of the projectile. Rate of twist is typically given in revolutions per x". That is, a twist of 1 in 8" is a faster twist than 1 in 12". A longer, heavier bullet will require a faster twist to be stable.

>>31615628
Thanks dawg, affirming my suspicions about placement. Gonna order a castle nut adapter for it.

Hi, /k/!

I'm in a 'shall-issue' state with the most gun-friendly laws in the nation, Texas.

My question to you is, I've seen a lot of conflicting information on what I need to do to obtain said license.

The DPS website makes it seem like it's as easy as putting in ID numbers, while some say I have to take a four hour course that ends in a written test, and others say I have to take a 10-to-15 hour course that ends in a written test, and a shooting test.

Could anyone who has recently obtained a CHL or LTC or whatever tell me what the process is for Texas?
>>

You take a class no less that 4 hours and no longer than 6 focusing on chapter 9 of the Texas penal code. Then after the test, you go out and qualify by shooting at 3 yards, 7 yards, and 15 yards. Super easy.

Yeah probably, if you don't enjoy doing things like that. But Brownells has some parts and articles on what it takes. Slapping stuff together can easily put together a 1-2.5 moa gun. Getting more tooling and trueing up the action will get it sub moa.

You can always find a gun with most of the features you want and find aftermarket stocks, sights, or bottom metal to add whichever it is missing. However your mileage may vary.

>ATF’s long-standing position is that any activities that result in the making of firearms for sale or distribution, to include installing parts in or on firearm frames and receivers, and processes that primarily enhance a firearm’s durability, constitute firearms manufacturing that may require a manufacturer’s license. In contrast, some activities are not firearms manufacturing processes, and do not require a manufacturer’s license. For example, ATF Ruling 2009-1 (approved January 12, 2009) explained that performing a cosmetic process or activity, such as camouflaging or engraving, that primarily adds to or changes the appearance or decoration of a firearm is not manufacturing. Likewise, ATF Ruling 2009-2 (approved January 12, 2009) stated that installing “drop-in” replacement parts in or on existing, fully assembled firearms does not result in any alteration to the original firearms. Persons engaged in the business of these activities that do not constitute firearms manufacturing need only obtain a dealer’s license.

>Although installing parts in or on firearms, and applying special coatings and treatments to firearms are manufacturing activities, the definition of “manufacturer” in 18 U.S.C.921(a)(10) and 27 CFR 478.11 also requires that a person be “engaged in the business” before the manufacturer’s license requirement of section 923(a) applies. Thus, a person who manufactures a firearm will require a manufacturer’s license if he/she devotes time, attention, and labor to such manufacture as a regular course of trade or business with the principal objective of livelihood and profit through the sale or distribution of the firearms.

Key words are "regular course of trade" and "principal object of livelihood and profit",

Want a nice rabbit/squirrel shooting gun. Is something in .22 good enough? Could I get something bigger that I could later use for hunting something like pheasants?

.22 is good for rabbit sized things, anything larger and you may want to move up in caliber.

Birds like phesants and duck are best taken with shotguns loaded with birdshot.

I'm looking to rebore a .32ACP barrel to .380 Auto. The rest of the firearm is set up to handle either .32 or .380, it just needs a barrel swap. Original .380 barrels are impossible to find.

Is this something I can do on my own (if so, what do I need), or should I leave it to a gunsmith (if so, who do you recommend)?
>>
>>31618732
It is a fairly specialized thing to do. The whole bore would have to be reamed and then a new chamber reamed. After the bore is reamed, it would likely need lapping to remove tool marks, then new rifling cut.

I would leave it to a gunsmith who has the tools already. If it were a different chambering of the same bore dimension, you might have been able to get away with just a chamber reamer, but even that is something that would be better off done by a gunsmith.
>>
>>31618808

Thanks anon. Do you know any gunsmiths you could recommend? I haven't had a lot of luck online - it seems like a lot of them either specialize in rifle barrels or specific handguns only.

I have an AK74 and I love it. My fiance also likes to shoot it since its easy to operate and has low recoil. If Hillary wins the election, I'm going to buy another rifle before she decides to ban them.

Now, should I buy another 74 or diversify and get an ar15 or fal?
>>
>>31619341
Diversify. AK74s are fun, but 5.45 is a dead end in America that relies on imports, and a decent 74 will cost you 1k these days. Build an AR15- it'll cost you $600 for a middle of the road do all rifle, has low recoil just like the 74 and is easy enough to operate that the Marines use it.
>>
>>31619341
AK74 has about the same felt recoil as an AR. AK74s used to be a sort of unknown way to shoot a rifle for cheap, as the surplus ammo cost about half of what 5.56mm costs, but ever since Russian milsurp ammo was banned, commercial prices are about even with 5.56mm and harder to find.

I'd definately go for an AR if you don't have one.

what exactly causes failure to eject/stovepiping in a blowback semi auto rifle? specifically, a 10/22? it's a brand new gun, and it seems to happen at random. it'll go a 25 round mag or two just fine, then randomly jam on 2-3 shots on the next load. is it just shitty ammo? was alternating a bit between CCI minimags and Federal HV Match, and it jammed on both (albeit only once or twice with the CCI). was also going between the stock 10 round rotary mag, and rugers official 25 round mag.

and second, are CCI stingers really bad for this rifle? I keep hearing conflicting stories.
>>
>>31620247
>what exactly causes failure to eject/stovepiping
general dirtiness or the extractor and ejector are damaged
the other fault could be ammo but 10/22s tend to eat most standard ammo

mag related jams are failures to feed or cycle
if its making it into the chamber the mag is fine
>>
>>31620247
most likely not broken in yet. Rugers aren't known for operating smoothly out of the box.

Make sure you shoot a couple hundred rounds of high velocity ammo through it to start off with.

If you want to get deeper into it, break it down, clean it up, and polish the guide rod. Some people like to remove the paint where the bolt rides as well. Also chamfering/polishing the bolt where it rides against the hammer.
>>
>>31620289
>>31620290
Cool. Thanks for the tips. It DID double feed once (had to drop the mag out and dick with the bolt a bit), but beyond that, nothing that racking it again didn't solve. Guy I went shooting with also had a 10/22, and his flat out refused the federal. Would jam up at least twice every mag. Then again, he's had his for well oflver 10 years and he's never cleaned it, so...

so, other than where it was made, what are the differences between the Maverick 88 and the 500? will parts interchange? if I buy, say, a stock for an 88, will it fit the 500, and vice versa?
>>
>>31620780

The only things that won't interchange are the trigger group and magazine end cap I believe. The only real mechanical difference is the safety location. The parts for the 88 are made in Mexico and assembled in the USA, which explains the price difference. The fit and finish are also a little worse on the 88, but it's an absolutely solid shotgun and probably the best "budget" one you can buy brand new.

Why are tan Scar 16s and 17s so inconsistent in the color department?

I've seen yellowish ones, some that aren't two tone but all tan, some that are orange-y, and some where the upper is normal but the polymer lower is brown.

What's up with that?
>>
>>31621517
I think it is because FN is a little bit negligent of their polymer color formula. Remember that when russians were experimenting with polymer furniture, early pieces were too brittle in black, but acceptable in plum. Until they figured out their color formula, we got lots of plum stuff on the market.

From my experience with concrete, textile, and molded fiberglass industries, it is actually a tad tricky and takes some attention for colors to come out right when mixing materials together. Most places have QC testing for specifically the colors of their results. I guess FN either is not testing for color consistency or they are not getting the desired color without compromising durability or other needs.

Rheinmetall's new MMG, the RMG 7.62 has 3 barrels. When it electronically detects it's getting too hot, it switches barrels.

At that point why not just use a rotary machine gun? Gotta be less complicated, no computer, no electronics, no delay to switch barrels. It makes no sense to me.
>>
>>31615875
>Length of the barrel is mostly irrelevant. What is important is the shape and weight of the projectile. Velocity alone has a fairly small effect on stability (outside the transonic case) compared to the construction of the projectile. Rate of twist is typically given in revolutions per x". That is, a twist of 1 in 8" is a faster twist than 1 in 12". A longer, heavier bullet will require a faster twist to be stable.

So for a rifle that you plan on using multiple types of ammunition (different bullet weights for example), you should skew towards a faster twist rate?

Will that sacrifice performance for lighter rounds due to more "powder force" being turned into rotation or is that negligible?
>>
>>31623919
Generally yes. From a match level perspective, "overstabilizing" _can_ have some detrimental effect, but for most calibers and bullets it is hardly in the territory of practical. Another consideration is that light, non-bonded bullets out of small bore magnum calibers may come apart with high twist (say a unbonded 110gr 308 bullet out of a .300 ultra mag). For about everything within 5.56, it will not be a big deal using light stuff with the faster rates on market.

To give an example, old M16A1s had a slow twist rate that would stabilize M193. When M855 (a fairly long bullet for its weight due to the less dense steel in the tip) came along, the old M16s would group in feet at 100 yards with lots of keyholing. Newer weapons have the faster twist rates to stabilize the heavier, longer bullets, but are perfectly okay firing M193 still.

You get a lot of noise and confusion when talking about different periods of time, and different countries, who all designate things a bit differently.

But in general, in the US and most western ways of thinking, a SAW, which is a variant of a light machinegun is going to be chambered is a carbine caliber (5.56mm, 7.62x39, 5.45mm) and is employed as an individual weapon.

A SAW/LMG is generally lighter and provides fireteam level firepower and can both move with a team, or provide a local base of fire. Since it is of a lighter caliber, it can be easily shoulder fired and used in movements keeping up with riflemen.

A GPMG or medium machinegun (MMG) would be a weapon chambered in a full power cartridge (7.62x51, 7.62x54r). This weapon has a more powerful round, but is heavier and can not be as effectively fired on the move. It is generally considered a crew served weapon and will provide a base of fire from a relatively more static position. Generally in US organizations, several GPMGs will provide the base of fire in a platoon during combat.

*

From what I have read online, the Russians have started to replace their automatic rifles (RPKs) with GPMGs (PKM or PKP). So you have a heavier, full power machinegun doing the role that a western military would use an LMG/SAW in. I do not know how this will work out, seeing that even the PKP looks far bulkier and difficult to shoot on the move than a light automatic weapon in a carbine caliber, but we'll see how it works out. The Russians, for whatever reason have never seemed terribly interested in a beltfed lightmachinegun, instead relying on the RPK to mixed results, and the PKM to fill in the gaps.

>>31627848
have you chrono'd your loads?

Honestly can't get a great ballpark with revolvers because of the effect of cylinder gap is not consistent unless you measure the MV of your own loads.

It will have a bigger wound cavity--which is true when talking about 9mm vs .40 vs .45--look at some gel tests and decide for yourself if the bigger wound cavity justifies different weight/capacity/etc

In all honesty, you really need to delve into nitty gritty technical shit to really learn anything without trying it yourself. Most of the "conventional wisdom" is fuddlore or ninjamyth. About everything you think you know about firearms and ballistics is wrong and you need to painstakingly read scientific texts to understand. There are elements to firearms, internal, external, and terminal ballistics that most people with firearms don't know shit about.

However, you will never be able to just read a book on guns and go out and shoot like someone who has put lots of deliberate time into training.
