Gone for a week not sure if anything interesting happened in the threads.

Looks like there is going to be a push to legalize suppressors coming soon.

And legal precedent in the supreme court.

If it doesn't get a response from parliament there may still be legal recourse.

Still im surprised that in Its 2016™ they still haven't changed it.

This enactment amends the Criminal Code to consolidate and modernize various offences against animals.

The enactment amends the Fisheries Act to prohibit the practice of shark finning and the Wild Animal and Plant Protection and Regulation of International and Interprovincial Trade Act to prohibit the importation of shark fins that are not attached to the rest of the shark carcass.

It also amends the Textile Labelling Act to modify requirements in respect of animal hair and fur and cat and dog skin, hair and fur.

It also amends the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act to add products made in whole or in part of dog or cat fur or skin to Schedule 2 to that Act to prohibit those products from being imported into Canada or manufactured, advertised or sold in Canada.

>>
>>31591607
She says

>Most important to say up front is that this is about animal abuse, not animal use. The bill would not apply to lawful activities such as hunting and fishing.

>For example, a man was acquitted of beating his dog to death by a baseball bat, but he was acquitted because the dog died quickly. As well, willful neglect of domestic animals has been hard to prove. This bill today, instead, proposes a gross negligence offence for failing to provide adequate care, where an individual is found to have departed markedly from a standard of care that a reasonable person would use.

>The final part of the bill proposes to ban the sale of cat and dog fur, and also to require source labelling of fur. This would match the laws in the U.S. and the European Union. A 2012 Toronto Star investigation revealed that cat and dog fur is used in children's toys, boots, and in trim on coats. Three NDP MPs have previously attempted the measures contained in this bill to ban the sale of that fur and to require source labelling for cat and dog fur.

Doesn't look like it would affect hunters at all really.
Would source labeling just mean "The fur is ___ animal"?
>>
>>31591540
Nothing, frankly. Unless I'm mixing it up with another one it was about making sure you hunt humanely, which didn't include shit about guns (it was primarily about trapping).

I want some motherfucking shark steaks, but every time I ask a business if they sell shark steaks, they look at me like I'm some sort of monster because they're too fucking ignorant to understand that the fins being valued so much higher than the rest of the meat is why the inhumane practice of shark finning is a thing.

What does "sporting" have to do with it?

They are MASSIVELY overpopulated, cause ridiculous amounts in property damage (destroying lobster traps) and are a good source of food and income (pelts).

We got rid of their predators. Guess whose job it is to keep their populations in check, now. Or would you rather we not hunt them at all and watch them die of starvation, push other species towards extinction and further fuck over fishermen in the Maritimes/eastern Quebec?

what is the fucking point though?
other than the wood furniture, which someone will source from the same supplier soon enough, why would someone buy an untested copy of an already available reputable rifle?

>>

>why would someone buy an untested copy of an already available reputable rifle?
For a lot of people it's all about supporting businesses in your own country.
That said I'd trust the Czechs with a rifle they've been making forever over some Canadian business that said "I'm going to make that"
>>
>>31593256
pressing the barrels is just done with a standard press, and the receivers can be made in a cnc machine

but i'm guessing it's mostly going to be parts kits, i dont really get it either

It's more about ammo than rifles, but the February edition of Calibre magazine has a pretty good update on the situation:

http://calibremag.ca/surplus-ammunition-how-it-gets-from-there-to-here/

A lot of our surplus came from Ukraine:

>The only possible conclusion from all of this is that the overall supply of cheap surplus won’t last forever. Estimates of SKS rifles left in Ukraine are now around 120,000. That sounds like a lot, but the demand for these rifles in Africa is extremely high and as many as 40,000 are sold each year. The supply will not last.

Define close, there are probably 4-5 ranges closer than any crownland that allows shooting.

For restricted, get an AR15 of some kind if you want a rifle, but you should probably get a pistol.

>>

I figured out the problem. The modified bolt catch is preventing the magazine from inserting. I have no idea how to fix this. A liberal application of rhum may help.

10 round magazines are very nice. It feels great loading up a magazine and not stopping at 5.
>>
>>31599016
I bet it's satisfying to push a full stripper clip into the mag.
>>
>>31599136
This. Putting in five and a half rounds is such a mood killer.
>>
>>31599136
haven't even tried that yet. after fucking around for a bit I can get empty and full magazines to lock in place. there's too much front-rear tension for it to drop free and insertion is tighter than a 12 year old. this isn't the experience I wanted, but it's what I paid for.

I'd have trouble reloading in competition or on a two way range with this setup but I think it should feed reliably.

>>31599136
SKS strippers can be made to work OK with the banana mags if you're careful but they won't stay in place with the stanags. I got 7 rounds in before it became too hard and I had to finish by hand. The first time I tried it the magazine fell out and I blew my load all over the floor. The second time things went smoother. These are virgin magazines so a little resistance is expected.

After inserting and pulling out a bunch of times it's getting a lot easier. It often takes a big smack on the bottom to get it in all the way but I'll have everything broken in soon enough.

anyone know if binary triggers are legal here?
>>
>>31600420
>PART 4
>Prohibited Devices
>Former Prohibited Weapons Order, No. 9
>1 Any electrical or mechanical device that is designed or adapted to operate the trigger mechanism of a semi-automatic firearm for the purpose of causing the firearm to discharge cartridges in rapid succession

I don't know for sure if they would fall under this but I'm inclined to believe they do.
>>
>>31600532
that would cover cranks and slide fire stocks but I don't think it covers a proper binary trigger, since a binary trigger isn't a device which operates a trigger mechanism. it is the trigger mechanism

I just want to have three positions on my fire selector and have the third position actually do something.

I did it. I know how to solve it. You need to take a metal grinder and grind off the two little things. It's hard to explain, so I am going to show you on a youtube video I found.

Just to make you feel safe, I did it on one of mine, and it works like a charm. Just make sure to get it even, not any more, and you'll be fine.

This was a Vz. 58 and not an SKS. The Vz. 58 bolt doesn't interfere with the magazine since it was designed for detachable magazines.

The bolt catch and magazine were binding up on each other, not the bolt, bolt carrier or receiver.

Wikipedia:
>There is no law that prohibits batons; except for spring-loaded batons, which are defined as a prohibited weapon [...] However, it is a crime under section 90 of the Criminal Code to carry any weapon, including a baton, in a concealed fashion.
But from what I've gathered, you will run into serious problems if your stated reason for carrying the baton is self-defense against other people. Seems that those who carry them cite feral dogs as the real threat. And you'll certainly have to answer those kinds of questions if a cop sees you openly carrying a baton.

I gotta ask, are suppressors really that great? They make the gun considerably dirtier when shooting and from what I've heard unless you're using subsonic ammo you still have to wear earpro while using them.

Dude, you could just get that CNC machined.

Even with subsonic ammo, depending on the caliber, you'll still have to use earpro to avoid hearing loss.

I don't know why so many of my fellow countrymen feel the need to own these oppressive firearms? There is no place for these in contemporary Canada. I am going to start working on closing the Bow wolf clip magazine loophole. Come on my countrymen. We are better than coming onto an American website and and cherishing these brutish tools THEY plagued our land with! Turn them in!

What's a good first pistol? I'm in Ontario, no range membership, but I've got friends with local ranges and I'm planning on joining Connaught in the new year. I've shot pistols a lot in my youth, but I'm mainly looking for something reliable and inexpensive (aren't we all).

I don't know what to do anymore! I thought I wanted a Mauser but the price of ammo is too damn high. Do I just give in and get a nugget/sks for affordability and practicalities sake? Are there any other firearms that are fun to shoot and viable for self defense that I should look out for?
>>
>>31619572
8mm isn't any more expensive than .303, .308 or .30-06. Reload and save a bit of money.

>self-defense

I do not think full power rifle cartridges are a good idea for this especially if you live in the city.

Other self-defense options are shotguns, pistol caliber carbines (lever included), and .223/5.56 semi-autos.

What guns (don't have to name names, just types) do you currently own?
>>
>>31619175
>lowest mortgage payment for cheapest actual house in Richmond is $4k/mth
>would need a 25$/hr job fulltime just to make mortgage payments
The only things I could afford are townhomes, condos, and houseboats.
>>
>>31619672
>what guns do you currently own
N-none. I'm waiting for my PAL to come in.
>>
>>31620641
If you want a Mauser, get one- but if self-defense is high on your requirements list, then get either a 12 gauge or 20 gauge pump-action shotgun to start. It's not the ideal self-defense arm, but it is flexible, so you can do a lot more than just self-defense with it (swap out the barrel for more flexibility).

Having said that, getting an SKS is a good idea as well- it's affordable and fun.

That kind of woodwork is stupidly easy as long as you're not doing any intricate carving/burning. Well, and as long as you have something to cut barrel and gas tube channels in the handguards.
