So the NFA definition of a MG is
>The National Firearms Act defines "machinegun" as "any weapon which shoots, is designed to shoot, or can be readily restored to shoot, automatically more than one shot, without manual reloading, by a single function of the trigger." 26 U.S.C. 5845(b)

It doesn't really state any chronological conditions for the trigger's function. What if you made a gun that could "charge" trigger pulls much like a pump air rifle but still also shoot semi-automatically. When you activate a secondary mechanism it could release those stored trigger pulls. It'd be like the sig-brace of full auto. If the gun had a provision for semi-auto fire if there were no "stored" trigger pulls, it would ensure that the trigger could only fire the same number of times the trigger has been pulled. Crank fire guns are already a thing, so why not this?

correct me if I'm wrong, but what you're proposing is the "half an A-press" of trigger mechanisms.

>ATF's face when I build up trigger pulls for 12 hours
>>
>>31561852
Pretty sure that secondary mechanism would be considered the trigger
>>
>>31561852
>When you activate a secondary mechanism it could release those stored trigger pulls
That's also a trigger, and now it's shooting multiple bullets with one pull.
>>
>>31561926
But if you didn't pull the first trigger at all the secondary one wouldn't shoot, would it still be a trigger?
>>
>>31561906
Instead of wasting time reloading ammo everyone just comes home and charges trigger pulls while watching TV.
>>
>>31561939
Is a trigger still a trigger if its single action only and the hammer isn't cocked?
>>
>>31561852
Make like 3 side by side triggers each very thin
Make it a burst fire mechanism

Boom

Legal burst fire

ATF already gave an answer on this.

What if we just made a drop-in full-auto kit but instead of calling it a "trigger" it was labeled as a "finger-assisted fire operating lever"

>be me at range
>can't wait to try out my new finger-assisted fire operating lever
>load 75rd drum in my AK
>rack.gif
>BDDDDDDDDDPT.webm
>federally allocated range ATF agent comes over to check mein papers
>"SIR IS THIS A MACHINEGUN?"
>nah bro it's just my FAFOL, this gun doesn't even have a trigger
>"YOU SURE ABOUT THAT? I DONT WANNA HAVE TO SIC MY BOYS IN YOUR DOG!"
>yup, take a look bud
>"hmmm... 'kommando brand finger-assisted fire operating lever'... Ok this checks out, have a good day sir"
>gubmint get out reeeeee
>continue burning through 2,000 rounds of ammo in 10 minutes

There are no loopholes. And if there were, you would be too stupid to think of a new one.
>>
>>31562173
You can buy some certain auto sears, and even install them legally, as they're marketed as "safety sears"

Safety because they make sure the gun won't fire out of battery.

Yes, this is the way ATF would interpret it. See also the Minigun ruling.

I had an idea about a trigger mechanism that could fire off rapid shots. What if it operated similar to a 2-stage trigger, but the first stage would act as one actuation of the trigger and automatically reset for the second stage, where pulling it the rest of the way would fire the gun again. Would they still be able to call it a machine gun? I was thinking that the first trigger pull would leave the trigger "stuck," so that you would have to pull it the other half of the way for the second shot in order to reset it for both. It would probably be very unnecessarily complex, but I wonder if they could really say it's not two distinct trigger pulls in that situation.
>>
>>31562302
They'd do mental gymnastics and ignore all existing laws, regulations, and even their own rulings, just like they did for the pistol brace.
>>
>>31562302
If the trigger that fires on both the pull and release is legal, than that should be as well. You are moving the trigger twice.

hand cranked Gatling guns are considered bolt action where I live
>>
>>31562302
Gatling guns are legal. If you made a finger-operated crank that would be legal. Multiple-trigger guns are legal. If you had three triggers side by side so that each trigger technically only fired one round between resets, you could have a fully legal three-shot burst.

What if you push a button that holds the hammer for 5 seconds while you build up clicks on the trigger then automatically releases?
No single trigger pull for multiple shots, the button does nothing other than start a timer and is pushed before any trigger pulls are stored.
Not that great, but would it still make the ATF heads explode?

winner
>>
>>31562393
This is what doesn't make sense to me. By that logic if you had a three stage trigger that fired three shots it would be legal. Then why ban burst weapons at all considering it's not going to be functionally any fucking different except for a marginally longer trigger pull?
>>
some fucking idiot's been asking the same damn question over the last few months.

it's a machine gun. if you're thinking not, it's a machine gun.

>>31562264

you haven't killed yourself, Opie?

>>31562402

button is a trigger

>>31562451

because the ATF says so, and crank triggers are legal but your 3-stage trigger isn't.
