So /k/ i finally get my first weapons, a nice a beautiful Springfield 1903 from WWII.

I would like any advice on it, and experience from it?
>>

More pictures. Barrel date, what arsenal, Etc. Also, interesting choice for a first gun.

While almost any 30-06 load will be safe to fire, you might not find good accuracy with non-Garand loads, because that's what it was sighted for.
>>
I've got an 03A3 and it's absolutely amazing, they're basically the same thing just different sights and stamped vs milled butt plate and mag plate.

They shoot amazingly, it's the only rifle that I can get all 5 rounds touching at 50 yards. The front sight isn't as delicate as you might think, but I would still get a cover for it, atleast for when you're not using it.

First piece of advice: do NOT bubba it ever
Second : don't sell it either, pass it down
Third : clean it well, it's not chrome lined for accuracy and price reasons.
Fourth : be careful what you shoot out of it, I'm not going to use the "low number 03" bullshit, but it's an old rifle and retarded fudds like to reload 30-06 so be careful what you buy and shoot out of it.

I think you will love the rifle, I love mine and I will continue to. Also, if you do buy a sight cover don't buy a USMC one, they're expensive as fuck. Just spot weld a regular one, cut the top open down the middle, and pry it open so it's like an AK hood. It will work and it will allow you to aim with it on, so you don't need to take it off to shoot. Upload some more pictures and tell me about it. My 03A3 was my first rifle too, and it was the best decision I've made in the firearms world.

>it's not chrome lined for accuracy and price reasons.

It's not chrome-lined because prior to 1939 no military service rifle ever had a chrome-lined bore.

That's a fun fact but you might be surprised to know that you don't have to be a dick at all times!

I have not get the gun yet. Get it Thursday but i got the serial. It was a French soldier gun.
>>
>>31558547
>posting serials online
wew
>>
>>31558461
The low number 03 thing is due to improperly heat treated receivers, as long as it isn't really early it should be fine.
>>
So i will post more pictures Thursday. That the only two i have from now.

Also 800$ for this rifle is reasonable ? I saw various prices for this gun.
>>
>>31558485
ok, thanks for the info.

>>31558502
He wasn't being a dick to me m8, atleast I don't think he was.
>>
>>31558590
But even then there are only a handful of cases where people had them explode right?
>>
>>31558590
I have a RIA low number. Got it from a guy who used it as a durr rifle and put hot loads (giggity) through it a lot. Now all I shoot is surplus M2 out of it. Guess I lucked out, still wonder what day my range trip will end with a bolt stuck in my shoulder.
>>
>>31558628
Pretty much

>>31558601
$800 for all that surface rust? Check the bore, and muzzle, if there isn't much pitting it's not as bad, but try and jew them down a bit.
>>
>>31558601
It's fair. Not a great deal but you aren't getting raped either.
>>
>>31558628
Little more than a handful. No one died though. Just wear range glasses and you're set.

Hi there!

You seem to have made a bit of a mistake in your post. Luckily, the users of 4chan are always willing to help you clear this problem right up! You appear to have used a tripcode when posting, but your identity has nothing at all to do with the conversation! Whoops! You should always remember to stop using your tripcode when the thread it was used for is gone, unless another one is started! Posting with a tripcode when it isn't necessary is poor form. You should always try to post anonymously, unless your identity is absolutely vital to the post that you're making!

Now, there's no need to thank me - I'm just doing my bit to help you get used to the anonymous image-board culture!

Early Remington production, using the tooling from the former US Arsenal at Rock Island, Illinois. Probably made late 1941. There will also be a date on the barrel just behind the front sight base.
>It was a French soldier gun.
Many M1903s and 1903A3s were issued to the Free French forces in Europe.

>>31558601
>Also 800$ for this rifle is reasonable ?
Not in my opinion, it seems to have a lot of surface rust. $500 would be a more reasonable value given the overall condition.
>>
>>31558640
Probably never. If it hasn't failed now, it's not likely to.

M1903 rifles were sighted with m1 ball which was 20-30 grains heavier and a bit slower, the guy saying they were sighted with m2 is incorrect
>>
>>31558706
M1 ball was out of service by the time this rifle was made.
>>
>>31558706
Weren't they resighted when/if they were rebarreled?

03s are great, have fun
>>
>>31558713
Not speaking specifically for the a3 senpai, but the m1903 was sighted for m1, and by and large m1903s of any type shoot better with loading a close to m1 ball.

>tfw don't need to shoot downloaded ammo
>>
>>31558738
>the m1903 was sighted for m1
Pretty sure the M1903 was sighted for M1906 ball, which is closer to M2 ball ballistics.

Without going into alot of details, the 30-06 did not have the long range required for machine guns during WW1. By around 1923 the M1 ball was developed with a maxium range of 5900 yards (the 30-06 max was 3400 yds). The new 30 M1 ammunition had such a long range that
it began to shoot beyond known danger zones of existing military ranges. The National Guard requested the War Dept to make-up some ammunition like the old 30-06 for use on restricted ranges and thats how the M2 ball came about. Soon after the M2 ball became standard but M1 ball was still used.

But take this with a grain of salt, I'm just some guy on the internet
>>
>>31558728
that's a long bolt
>>
>>31558896
This sounds correct (I also have limited knowledge on the subject)
>>
>>31559080
I like how long it is
