I'm looking for an affordable semi auto rifle for long range shooting. Any ideas? I've always had bolt actions but would like to upgrade.

Pick one, and then get an AR-10
>>

>>

Budget: 500-1000 American rubles
Range: really fucking far
>>
>>31557803
That may limit you to hunting rifles, ar 10 (maybe) and if you are damned lucky a used ar 30-06 or 300 win mag. Honestly best bet is to save up more as that would be just the rifle without glass
>>

>really fucking far
oh boy

please dont get the idea that you'll be able to hit at chris kyle distances with that budget.

Even with a blank check, you're only going to be so effective out to those kinds of ranges.

The standard of "long range" shooting for most places is 600-1000 meters in which a 308 can be stretched to do so.

Going beyond that, you start to bend the idea of practicality and it just becomes glorified, expensive plinking.

>Get a Ruger American or Savage Axis in 308 and reload
>get a vortex optic or use the one it comes with, doesnt matter
>and buy a bipod that works
and you'll be on your way.
>>
>>31558075
forgot to mention, most semi auto rifles that will reach out to "really fucking far" are way outside of your price range to begin with.

If you are absolutely hellbent on having it in semi-auto, get a cheap ass AR-10 from DPMS or Bushmaster, slap a vortex/halfway decent scope on it and lube the fuck out the bolt carrier.

Will it be reliable? Maybe, maybe not. Will it hit "really fucking far"?

600-1000 meters if your glass is good, beyond that youll wish you had a bolt gun that didnt jam and had decent MOA accuracy.

>le chris kyle dick suck
I don't give a shit. Reasonable distances (deer hunting-esque) ranges.
>>
>>31557803
Cheapo long range. Ruger American Predator in 6.5 Creedmoor. that'll leave you about 550 for decent glass that can get you a good Vortex Viper 6.5-20x50 which should be fine for what you're looking for.

Not enough sheckles for semiauto precision

Meant it more as a meme than a dick suck, sorry if his existence triggers you anon.

>Reasonable distances (deer hunting-esque) ranges.
That distance and caliber choice will depend on what terrain you're in and what kind of deer you're hunting.

But assuming you just want it for shooting paper/potential trespassers/terrorists/russians/aliums/neckbeards coming to cuck your waifu pillow, then a normal hunting rifle with a decent scope and a bipod of somesort will probably do ya.

Again try a Ruger American or a Savage axis, American has a smoother bolt so that's my bias.

Drop it in a boyd's wood drop in stock because the plastic ones can occasionally be bad enough to where recoil gets to be annoying and accuracy gets fucked a bit

Get in 308, 30-06, 270 or 243 if you care about commonality, 308 or 30-06 especially if you care about commonality and reloading to save money and improve groups. Maybe 7mm-08 if you feel adventurous and like flat shooting rounds.

Get a bargain bin bipod, doesnt matter as long as you have one and youre not using the thing as a club.

And get a vortex scope, warranty is amazing and the scopes are bomb proof, upgrade to something like a Leupold later if you want.

also dont fucking runt steel case 308 in it period.

>>31558162
6.5 is nice if you can find a RA chambered for it, you can't go wrong.

>you just want it for shooting paper/potential trespassers/terrorists/russians/aliums/neckbeards coming to cuck your waifu pillow
I cannot allow this to happen at any cost.

I live in western Pennsylvania: many green, rolling hills, whitetail deer, and overweight rednecks.
>>
>>31557803
come back with $5k if you want a semi auto precision rifle
>>
>>31558264
and also if you dont mind replacing the barrel every 2000-2500 rounds
>>
>>31558448
>many green, rolling hills, whitetail deer, and overweight rednecks.

Then all of which I just mentioned remains relevant. The closer you get to the Appalachians the more you can expect any kind of long range shot being around 400 meters max, which you could even pull off with an AR-15 or AK.

The closer you get to wide open spaces close to highways, SOME farms, and Lake Erie you can maybe expect longer shots, but it wouldn't be much to worry about.

Just remember as far as hunting goes, most people got away with iron sighted 30-30 lever guns for the better part of the 20th century on the east coast simply because the brush is so dense and especially in hilly/mountainous areas ranges arent long enough to need a scope but it helps.

Most kill shots with game animals are within 100 meters.
>>
>>31558075
>ruger american or savage axis

These both have sporter profile barrels and will string after a few shots. You need a heavy barrel.

I got a savage model 11 VT for $350. 24" heavy barrel will allow you to shoot accurately for more than 5 minutes and would be a much wiser choice.

>Semi-Auto

You're going to have to spend more than that. $1200 - $1500. Best bet for a budget AR-10 is Smith&Wesson M&P10.
