So I have to do a debate in my college class this Thursday on gun control in Canada, and I will be arguing that our current system is too strict and unclear.

Any of you fellow /k/anucks have any stats or arguments I can use to get through to a bunch of college liberals? Keep in mind if I make them mad they will shut down and not listen.
>>
>>31558018
>If I make them mad
More like if you disagree with them in any way they'll shut down and stop listening.
Remember anon, college is a "safe space" where people must never hear ideas that challenge their worldview
>Use the Langman study though
>>
>>31558018
Oh and also, if you look around there are quote from various Canadian police chiefs saying that ~75%->90% (depending on which) of crime guns are smuggled into the country illegally.
Somewhere there's a stat too showing the law-abiding gun owners account for hardly any gun crime
Point to the RCMP banning .22s because they look like AKs and they think that actually makes them AKs as an example of how gun classification is nonsense
>>
>>31558018
just say this isnt america and Canadians can handle the responsibility of guns and restricting that shows clear mistrust of the people by the government, and shill for hillary too really throw them off. but seriously, best thing to do would be ask them questions, ask if they know what it takes to get a license, if they know the requirements or restrictions we face, explain the terrible classification systems and how its bases off 90s action movie armory scripts and gun digest mags and say if there is gonna be laws they should make sense and be made by people who under stand the subject, really try separating Canadian gun culture from american even tho theyre very similar
>>
>>31558141
It also might be worthwhile to show that our homicide rates largely just fluctuate with those of the US and other western countries, regardless of what laws are passed in any of those nations
>ie. Homocide rate decreased here in the 90's, but also in the US where they didn't pass any effective gun control legislation at that time
>>
>>31558018
Explain magazine capacity laws.
Explain how ATTs work, both the old system and the new one
Explain how gun owners have to pass a background check every day, on top of the training course
Explain how the RCMP delaying the renewal of your license, even if you sent it in months ahead of renewal time, is putting you at risk of long term prison time
Explain how the classification system prohibits certain firearms but leaves functionally identical ones available
To expand on that further, explain how the prohibitions by name were done by politicians with no understanding of firearms, and as such included such vaporware as the G11
To expand further still, explain how nunchucks, ninja/throwing stars, and hand crossbows are prohibited (obviously due to the ninja wars of the '90s)
Mention how Tasers, mace, similar handheld LTL devices are prohibited under the firearms act
>>
>>31558018

Our homicide rate had been declining for decades prior to our modern gun control being implemented.
>>

Firearm homicide Canada.gif
12KB, 681x450px
The percentage of homicides committed with firearms does not change significantly with the implementation of gun control.
>>
Internationally, firearm ownership rates are not even remotely correlated to homicide rates.

http://www.canfirearms.ca/Skeeter/Misc/ott1.html
>Study showing majority of gun deaths as a direct result of smuggling, no chance gun control could possibly affect them, border control would prevent far more homicides than any sort of gun control
http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/nsw/jeweller-angelos-koots-admits-to-making-submachine-guns-at-his-seven-hills-home-and-supplying-them-to-bikie-groups/story-fni0cx12-1226760983916
>Australia's gun control being completely circumvented by people working a couple hours a week in their garage, making submachine guns with suppressors
>>
>>31558393
Actually, what that shows is a huge spike in gun crime after the initiation of the Gun Control Act in the 60's, and if the graph went back far enough, it would show a similar increasing trend due to Prohibition and the NFA.

Bah. Go Scout or go home. They're working on a pair of SVT designs, too, if anyone here has ever desired a solid, non-permanent mounting option for the SVT. One should be a Scout style, the other should utilize the sniper rails, if you have them, and allow for more traditional optic use.

>>31564696
I know this sounds like a shitty answer, but call the CFP hotline. Since you're doing a Restricted transfer, chances are you're gonna have to make a few calls anyway.

The reason I say this is because the answers you'll get will vary from person to person. The reason there are even any variances to begin with is because there are various different interpretations and understandings of the law, as well as actual changes to the law as recent as last year.

If you at least ask someone who works for the RCMP, you can wash your hands of any wrongdoing.
>A. Try to figure it out yourself (low to high legal risk)
>B. Follow the advice of a complete stranger with no association to the RCMP (low to medium legal risk)
>C. Follow the advice of an RCMP representative (zero to low legal risk)

With every phone call you make, always make sure to record the date, time, and duration of the call, as well as your representative's name.

The only reason the restricted registry works is because you're required by law to tell them whenever anything changes. You can't say you sold a pistol to Mike from Canmore because if they had no record of that they'd fuck you anyway.

Funny, I'm the opposite. I blew a few K on the VZ platform, only to realize I prefer the SKS to it in every way lel
>>

I've shot both. Large ring mausers can handle hot af loads so it should be fine.

I only bought the Israeli because I can only source 8mm from one store, and they're not very friendly.

Flying birds are shotgun fodder. For ground birds you have the luxury of using a rifle, which, if you aim for the head, potentially does far less damage to the meat you'll be eating.

Most people voted Trudeau because A.) Weed LMAO and/or B.) "Another Trudeau would be great."

Most people don't really pay attention to politics after a few months past the election and if peoples lives aren't affected hardly then they will probably vote Liberal again. They could lose a bunch of voters if they don't deliver on the weed promise but then I think it would probably just end up with a Liberal minority.
>>
Does the government actually want me to bend over and spread my ass if someone mugs me on the street?
>>
>>31584340
It needs to be sold with a bunch of other freedom-oriented policies (especially no bad words about weed). The CPC will never get the left-leaners, but I think the social libertarians can be won over.

Also stay away from bills like C-51. They'll probably be used against conservatives anyways.
>>
>>31584369
You underestimate how cucked people are.
>>
>>31584393
It's worth a shot. Part of it is shifting the Overton Window so that gun rights are seen as more acceptable. It wasn't so long ago that the LGR was considered a positive for the Liberals.

The most important part remains with ordinary gun owners and our organizations to show other ordinary Canadians that there's nothing wrong with owning guns. I think groups like CCFR have made some good progress on this:

Maybe you're just not using the right rimfire round?

.22 WMR, when shot out of a 2" barreled revolver, can still meet FBI minimum penetration requirements. Out of a rifle barrel, they're adequate even for coyote.
>>
>>31584340

You'd be surprised.

A lot of millenials get pissed when you tell them what the firearm laws are. Blame TV/movies/videogames.

Also, even among hipsters, firearm ownership rates are skyrocketing. Hunting is the most ethical way of sourcing animal protein and that's reason enough for many.

>>31584452

Very articulate and avoided many of the traps set for him by the anchor.

Steven Blaney for PM?
>>
>>31586365

It's possible. I was just shooting cheap 22LR. The 10/22 also just felt like a toy. If I decide to get another one I'll look into .22 WMR in a nice bolt action or something.
>>
>>31586635
.22 WMR is expensive you could feed a 9mm carbine for the same price.

>>31586394
Really? I must say you're experience has been drastically different from mine. Most millennials I've run into consume vidya and media in general the same way I do but mostly hate guns and don't understand them at all. They're incredibly liberal on most issues.

>>31586513
Maybe
>>
>>31587461
>Really? I must say you're experience has been drastically different from mine.

I'm pretty outspoken about it.

Just don't insert it into conversations where it's not even tangentially related like an autismo and tailor your arguments towards the people you're speaking to.

There are 4 kinds of people who are anti-gun:

Ignorant people (Just tell them what our current situation is and you win).
Stupid people (Just find out what's important to them and go at it from that angle. More difficult than ignorant people, but still doable).
Crazy people (Basically impossible to convert, but arguing with them in front of other people can be an easy way to score points with them).
Evil people (Mostly lobbyists, these are the ones we're actually fighting).
>>
>>31587461
I just got sat next to the Chads in the back row of my uni classes and these guys seem open to anything. One of them was even trying to defend Trump. Don't count the millennials out
>>
>>31587591
>>31587692
Don't get me wrong, I've done my fair share of arguing over the place of firearms in society with millennials. In my experience though, the only ones that I've been able to swing over to being gun friendly were already conservatives. The rest of my friends fall into two of the categories you listed (ignorant and stupid), but the rest consider themselves intellectuals and subsequently more intelligent than me. The only progress I've had is with a gay friend of mine who still isn't for guns but isn't as anti as he was before. From what I've gathered though, the issue with people my age lies with the fact that they're completely brainwashed by the media (the kind of people that think the civil war was about slavery).
