Is .38 Special a sizable caliber for EDC? Will it stop Tyrone?

>is this cartridge that's been a proven mankiller for over 100 years still able to kill people?
Don't come here if you've never shot a gun.

It'll work.

Like 9mm/.40/.45/10mm, the most important aspect is shot placement. A .38 special that you've had plenty of range time with will serve you better than a 9mm/.40/.45/10mm that you just carry without ever actually doing target practice. Hell, a .22lr in the hands of an experienced shooter is more of a threat than a 10mm in the hands of a mall ninja who's only shooting experience is in cowadoody.

.22's kill more tyrones than any other caliber. I'm sure you'll be just fine.

It will work, but not all the time. It's good for a backup gun, but 45 ACP is better.
>>
>>31547775
Yup, the .45 was build to kill drugged out Flips, it will work just fine for some drugged out dindu.

Like I said earlier, the most important aspect is shot placement; .22lr to the chest will do more to stop a threat than a .45 ACP to the left forearm. Though if we're talking the same shot placement, then my money is also on .45 ACP. When comparing apples to apples (FMJ to FMJ or JHP to JHP) the .45 ACP will cause a larger wound, fucking up more tissue, with a higher likelihood of hitting something vital. Comparing .45 ACP FMJ to 9mm or .38 JHP is apples to oranges. It's for those who are looking for specific results, rather than looking for the answer to a question.

Absolutely a fair point, i just happen to be quite comfortable with my .45

Shot placement, after all, is key in this scenario.

You are talking to a brick wall let them belive in their .45 stopping power delusion. It only make the perso bleed out a little faster if you really wanted a caliber in a hand gun with a certain one hit kill you are in degal .50 ae territory or 500 nitromag. Or you are using an alkilie metal mixture of potassium and sodium poured in a hollow point and sealed off with epoxy..

9mm delivers more kinetic energy to target with standard loads than .38 spc, 9mm also had the advantage of being magazine loaded as opposed to a revolvers cylinder.

If you really want to stop Tyrone get 10mm, .357 mag, or .45 acp.
>>
>>31548644
Yup. I actually prefer .45 ACP to the other cartridges mentioned, but that said, I believe 9mm to have more advantages than disadvantages in comparison. It won't cause as large wounds, but it has less felt recoil for faster follow-up shots, it's a smaller cartridge which lends itself to higher capacity, and it's much lighter allowing you to carry more ammo. In fact 230gr .45 ACP is about 21 rounds per pound while 115gr 9x19 is about 35-38 rounds per pound as I recall, which means being able to carry 75-100% more ammo for the same weight.

So with .45 ACP you get SLIGHTLY bigger wounds, but at the cost of more recoil, lower capacity, and heavier ammo... so yeah, I think it can be easily argued that 9mm is better than .45 ACP in most respects, but I still prefer .45 ACP.
