Are you serious?

Everything in 40K is so retardadly overpowered. A single space marine could take on several battalions of Army Rangers and a Platoon of Abrams before he was even wounded.

Anything from 40K would eviscerate every autistic fatass here with a spoon while simultaneously juggling school busses.

I love how in an effort to make your scenario somehow work you imply that Space Marines would do nothing but stand still in the open.

Taking cover would be fucking pointless against them anyway. They're firing what amounts to fire control guided fully automatic XM25's. It'd be over in moments. He's spot first, engage first, massacre first. There's plenty of fluff amounting to just how fast they can queue targets and unleash on them.

And thats assuming all he has is a normal Bolter. And not accounting for how fast they move, the cover they use, their better training and use of psychological warfare.

And all thats assuming they don't just land on the poor fuckers with a drop pod in the first place.

The whole "lol he'd charge like an idiot" thing is stupid anyway. There's very few chapters who's operation tends to go that way. Hell, if it were a Raven Claw, they'd be turbofucked without even seeing it.

Yes, I am fully aware this post gleams with the source of autism. But fuck it, it's 40k, it wouldn't be proper if it weren't overblown and stupid to blurt.

I always wondered why heavy stubber teams aren't able to be fielded as special weapon choices in Guardsmen squads, or hell even just vet squads. If I can get a bunch of grenade launchers for nothing, why can't I get a couple 2man fireteams with a big gun that has rapid fire and the AP of a Bolter for slightly less cheaply? Given that it's basically just a Ma Deuce it can't be that hard to manufacture in a setting of literal factory planets. I just want an LMG equivalent that my fodder squads can lug around instead of being trapped in a firing line with heavy bolters.

Wrong. Chaos Cultists use them with no mount or even a bipod, and they aren't noticeably stronger.

Cultists are already both in the verge of idiocy and chaotic powers that seem to go more or less hand to hand. In any case, People carried, and hip fired 30 cal etc to battle in ww2, but that doesnt mean its practical, safe or doable by your average joe.

Seeing how the stubber is usually mounted in vehicles I would say its safe to say its a specialist MG such as MG-3 which is mounted in many armored vehicles, but not really used as much in ground forces.

SM can secure a star system by decapitating the head of the snake. They can't fight a conventional war, nor can they hold the ground they take. That's what the Imperial Guard is for. Their fleets, though, depending on the chapter, can definitely match most foes in space. On the ground it's another matter, since it's whoever can throw the most bodies at their enemy, see orks. That's why SMs and the Inquisition use exterminatus so often.

During the Golden Crusade and Horus Heresy, they SM were like common soldiers, because they had so many of them, and they fought conventional wars.

Catachan can carry shit like that since they are so muscular.

I imagine the gangs could have cut on some safety to make them lighter, have some sort of civilian version or just big guys carrying them. As far as Heavy Bolter goes.

As far as Stubber goes, all auto weapons seem to be out of favor in IG, instead favoring energy weapons and self-propelled grenade weapons

Afaik autoweapons share the stats with lasguns.. so its up to the player which one they want to use.

Atleast they used to.

And if you consider what one Lasgun or Autogun (same stats?) can do to a unarmored man, they are pretty powerful.

That's because they will write off billions of losses like nothing. If they can't fix the problem by throwing men at it, they just throw MORE men at it. Imagine losing the equivalent of several WW2s in men in the span of a few months. This is standard procedure for the IG.

Crusade-era space marine legions were brutally efficient in taking hold of inhospitable planets populated by unspeakable horrors, planets with already functional government and armies, and even planets inhabited by forces with SUPERIOR technology.

.50 cals are still considered and used as heavy stubbers. Some detachments of certain regiments such as the Death Korps actually prefer heavy stubbers to the more traditional pintle-mounted mounted storm bolters or sponson-mounted heavy bolters on their vehicles.

Heavy bolters are .998 cal; regular bolters are .75 cal.

I don't doubt that 40K SM are gimped as fuck. Guillieman purposefully split the legions up to prevent another rebellion. In 40K SM are made out to be Mary Sues, yet the battles they participate in are always either critical battles, or ones they are certain to win. Even then, when they win a critical battle, they lose so much shit that the chapter is out of commission for decades, sometimes even centuries, while it replenishes losses.

Remember that HH novels hint that Guillieman wanted to make his own empire. This is speculation: splitting up the legions were a means to achieve that end. Remember that most of the successor chapters were from the Ultramarines. He just didn't count on getting wrecked by Fulgrim and put into stasis, so that kinda scuppered that plan. Then the high lords sorta took over and fast forward 10,000 years, you have the 41st millennium, where there is only war blah blah.

>>31546143

This. Crusade-era SM were mass produced super human warriors that could be thrown at a problem until it was solved. Some legions reflected this more than others (Iron Warriors, Death Guard, World Eaters), but in the end, all legions fought tooth and nail, using tactics that were considered barbaric even by the barbaric empires they subjugated, and they suffered massive losses against superior foes.

If it weren't for the primarchs holding the leash and directing the war dogs, the legions would've destroyed themselves against superior enemies. Hence why the Emps was in such a rush to find his sons, before shit got real.

I like 40K, shame it's such a cluster fuck of lore. It's turning into Star Wars EU. Might be time to move on to something else.

To be quite honest here, the fact that Cadian Gate still stands is pretty much testament that IG is actually far superior as an organization than any SM legion or chapter is, afterall the CSM is the closest to what 40k has of the HH SM.

IG has even stood against enemies that the HH SM never had to, and prevailed.

Its bullshit lore, but still if you look it as winners losers perspective.. Imperium and IG is the top dog, barely scraping to win against ALL races at the same time. Great Crusade SM's and HH SM's didn't need to deal with Eldar, Necrons, Tyranids etc.

That's the novels where each marine is noarderline a marvel superhero.

Early fluff and table top wise space marines fear auto cannons which are 20th century 20mm bofors.

Yeah a space marine wpuld be scary and expensive to taje down as you'd need anti tank weaponry to defeat their armor. So equip your squad with RPG's and you are good to go.
>>
>>31545197
Game balance.

Fluff wise bolters are rare and expensive yet table top even guard sargents can take em

Really for lore, guardsmen should be able to field heavy stubbers and utilize Multi-lasers more since they are the only faction to really have them and the whole fuff reason is tgat laser gun battery packs are cheaper to make than bolters hence guard regiments are armed with lasguns which has a universal ammo that any regiment can use.

Really leman russ tanks should have multi laser optikns for sponsons or at least fir the front hull mounted gun, so either choose a las cannon for anti tabk, or multi laser for anti armored infantry and their transports.

This. Lasguns badically hit like a 50 BMG. But without the recoil and bigger las weapons like cannons can destroy most tanks and monsterous creatures in one or two hits and multi lasers light up transports and infantry.

And technically they all use the same power source, it's just that for more of tge damage, the bigger the battery you need.

Blood Axes used to be the most powerful clan as they were the most intelligent and hired themselves out as mercs and even do protection rackets on small isolated human worlds and would trade and barter with otger aliens.

More importantly, sibce tgey were the first ork clan to have contsct with humans, even before the empire, they learned how to use operator like tactics that don't get you killed instantly like a typical ork charge. They'd flank, ambuse and even retreat tactically, not out of fear to get better weapobs or reinforcements if tgey came up against a meat grinder.

Blood axes favored ranged weapons, used cover and camoflauge and had the most mechanized forces.

Orks love and live to fight, but blood axes want to live to win fights and actually care about their survival and ammo stockpiles to a degree.

Other primitive orks thought their behavior was un otky and all of tge other dumb clans banded together and shattered the Blood Axes, perhaps setting back the ork race a few centuries as now the Goffs and other typical orks don't give much thought to tactics and just rush in and get baited easily and waste tgeir time with unvaluable worlds instead of securing strategic ones.

Death skulls salvage all the wrecked left overs and sell the best guns and snazzy uniforms Bad Moons who are rich due to their biological quirk of growing extra teeth and Evil Suns absorbed their mechanics and called dibs on vehicles but favored fast buggies bikes and planes over tanks.

Blood Axe's Still exist but now is small groups comparatively and work as Kommando Battalians for other clans and sometimes Rogue traders and tau

My main problem is that it just cycled into ridiculousness overall. The fluff became a comic book instead of semi-sorta plausible. Nuance was completely destroyed, like the concept that Space Marines were supposed to be the only real defense for Humanity against the dangers of the Warp and such, but the Marines themselves gave up their humanity and ultimately became that which they are supposed to hate as they despise the weak humans and purge them indiscriminately. Or that the Emperor came to free Humanity from the shackles of religion and blind obediemce, but ultimately became the very thing he was trying to stop. Now days it's just autistic kiddies and douchebros in the scene.

Idk I guess I just grew up and wanted more maturity from my games. I loved Necromunda but 40k has gone off the rails.

You do understand that a Space marine's power armor isn't that powerful. A direct hit from 120mm, no less a 40mm, could fuck up his day.

Furthermore, his bolter isn't that powerful against armor. If he's using a standard bolter, which I think is firing .75 gyrojet rockets, at best they could penetrate a MRAP if he's lucky.

Best case scenario, he can move to reinforce Terra with a giant force the second the Warp storms abate. Worst case scenario his forces are now the last remains of the Imperium of Man and only in uniting in a fortified position can give them a fighting chance.

Marines can still utterly crush the whole conventional army, if they have the means to always outmaneuver an enemy and dictate the fighting on their terms. It would be messy, slow and a horrible misappropriation of Marines, but a squad of Marines that can resupply themselves and can move around uncontested would easily take over a planet by completely destroying their military, not just making it ineffective.
This is one of the examples from the new fluff

I was talking about marines in 40k in general, not any of these stupid arguments.
Still, a Marine squad or two that could resupply themselves and somehow move around unmolested would easily cripple any of our countries. A squad of Marines just rampaging around would do horrible damage to the immediate area, but they would be brought down once the serious firepower rolls in or through attrition.

>>31557488

A single squad of marines could and would decapitate the entirety of American government and military capability in an hour. It really wouldn't be that hard since the White House, Capitol building, and Pentagon are all in the same city.

The Space Marines actually do have ways to shorten engagements & last longer. Their armor is solar powered & somehow recycles their waste into food. Many chapters usually drop their pods into an enemy base & cut off the head whenever feasible. Thing is, this is assuming they have the means to do so & I doubt a single non-primarch marine would have the authority to do such a thing.
>>
>>31557625
Not all have those. Plasma guns are damn rare & Meltas aren't exactly super long range. You'd need to be in a considerably close distance to use either anyway.

>>31557657
Autocannon has 48'' range. Puma's gun has quoted range of 3000 meters. So it 62.5 meters per inch.
Plasma is 24" or 1500 meters.
Melta is 8'' or 500 meters.

>ayy lmao Puma in 500 meter distance
Dead.
>>
>>31557740

The basic infantry lasgun transfers more energy to its target than a APFSDS doesfrom a 120mm rheinmetall gun.

IF we converted everything we have now to the table top rules (which aren't cannon strengths by anymeans) Most of our infantry weapons would be Str 1-2 and most of our large vehicle mounted weapons would be str 3-4

Going by different books it only takes about 10 space marines to subjugate a planet of our size and tech level.

Hell if any rank of Librarian attacked this planet they could probably take it by themselves.

Well they are abnormally stronger, faster and stealthier compared to normal city born humans, dosen't really translate into stats, but basically catachan men and women are 6 foot plus lean muscled body builders that get that way from surviving in one of the galaxy's most dangerous jungle planet. They hunt dinosaurs with knives for BBQ days.

Also, remember, anti tank weapons defeat space marine power armor. May be a waste of shots but during a game I had some great dice rolls my two ork tanks buster mobs did a number on a squad of a chaos space marines scoring 9 wounds out of 20 shots so all was left of a ten man squad of chaos marines was the sargeant and he failed his moral check and ran away.

So yeah catachans can probably take out chaos marines just fine with missile launchers, and demolition charges (basically tossing a C-4 brick).

Catachans are probably the only guardsmen with the balls to pull out knives and fight chaos marines in melee...but remember athletic bodies or no, they are just humans...I can totally see a Catachan Officer with a power axe being lucky with dice rolls.

Heck, had a steel legion junior officer who suffered a wound but killed an ork war boss in closs combat with a bolt pistol. I cut off his hand and replaced it with a hook and called him captain hook.

I've got a "Different take" on 40k bolter ammo a buddy of mine & I came up with one slightly inebriated afternoon a ways back.

Partially disintegrating case/propellant cylinder (like a space age version of cellulose tank shell propellant) + integrated drive band on the bolt-itself that works with gain-twist rifling.

TL:DR Version: A good bro of mine & I decided to un-gay & apply some rationality to theoretical 40k tech re-designs. In effect, we just took pre-heresy/great-crusade era shit & re-did it/developed it further.

not all PDF use autoguns.

think of it this way.

las weapons are logistically great and moderately expensive

autoguns are dirt cheap, the tech required to produce ammo is cheap and easy to, and for most domestic problems(cults/civilian-uprisings) they are more than adequate.

You do not equip a army that will on one month be fighting on a hive world and the next on a feudal world with autoguns.

However PDF forces never leave their systems so the question of ammo production is a nonissue.

The joints are protected with layered shifting titanium alloy that's virtually indestructible to small arms damage.

The armor is servo assisted but the super human inside can move the armor if it loses power.

The being inside the armor that can take almost any modern tank blast and not shrug can survive having his limbs removed, and the near destruction of the lower body.

Cybernetics and a sub-dermal plate of further metal melded to a synthetically reinforced skeleton render the blunt impact force of any modern small arm insufficient.

Try again.

Also, Bolters, and if they have a Las gun, say goodbye to pretty much any ground armor.

Also where did you get this crasy idea that las guns can do appreciable damage to anything that isn't infantry (did you mean las cannons?)? 1 space marine vs more than one tank = dead space marine 1 space marine vs more than one attack helicopter = dead space marine and while most modern assault rifles don't have the penetration needed for most parts of a space marines armor most modern crew served weapons would destroy them.

>>
Tech Priests would purge 4chan of their net for heresy. Then the Arbates and Inquisition would rounds us all up. We would end up in a penal legion prison on some asteroid. Where the 1000 calorie a day diet, constant brawling, incredibly hard physical training done by the commissar, etc leaves the survivors a bunch of hardened sociopaths. Who will go on a suicide mission, just to get away from the prison.

then after a dozen mission where 90% of us died. The commissar tells us that those were just for training. The real suicide mission is now starting. On the way to the mission a random glitch in the shielding lets the warp into the ship. Ship is flooded with daemons, and half us die just trying to get our lasguns out of the armory. Another half die fighting the daemons. We crash land on the planet with just 20 of us left.

the planet we are on is an imperial world. where a fortress city has been under seige for 100 years. The ones in the city and the ones outside the city both think the other is the heretical one. All but 6 of us and the commissar will die getting across a no man's land that makes ww1's western front and Battle of Stalingrad look like a walk through a park on a spring day. We witness entire regiments get blown up. Because their discipline didn't allow for them to break formation and take cover from artillery fire. So they just kept marching in columns across the field.

Commissar tells us the mission is to make our way through the city to blow up the fusion power plants. Then escape the thermonuclear Armageddon by stealing a shuttle.

after fighting off hundreds of security force, only the commissar, one /k/ommando, and some other poor sod managed to escape.

oh and you were infected with a daemon along the way. So you'll eventually go mad and be killed.

It was a stalemate, in the long term the Imperium prevented Vraks from being a huge fucking thorn in Cadia's ass, realistically though it was a suicide mission on the Vraksian's part and the kind of heroic last stand that the Imperium wanks over. Lots of unskilled men and women fighting against impossible odds, with nothing but bravery and zeal dying for a cause they believe in. Nurgle also came away from it with plague ogryns, and considering he has a private planet where he has as much horrible trench warfare as he likes on it and he didn't come up with that himself, I can imagine he must have got a huge kick out of it, Khorne probably get a pretty stiff boner whenever he thinks of Vraks, even if it's an akward one as he remembers one of his champions getting btfo.

There's a green text but I'll make a tldr.

Basically post ww2 england gave its African colonies to the blacks(literal tribesman) and everything turned to shit, Rhodesia said fuck that, declared independence and white rule.
>bretty racist kurwa but stick around
The rest of the world including USA was like yo you fucks are racist
>while USA hung blacks for trying to eat at same counter as whites
Meanwhile in Rhodesia blacks could get education, open shop, and make money, even run for office, and they did. But some ruskies funded some commies and shit went south. So the openly racist ian smith got elected in Rhodesia and was like nah SENPAI we not commies.
The commies straight murdered people black and white and 20 year long war with short shirts and COIN war kurwa it was great.
Ian smith agrees to an election with lots of different black commie groups, a guy named Mugabe killed everyone and took power now no one has food.
It was a great place, that admitted to being racist and wanted to fix their sins to an extent but got fucked by America and the west.

Gene stealer cults were always just another traitor guard list with melee specialist and warp powers.

I'm even going to model john deer caps and paint their clothes to be denim coveralls, plaid shirts and have sacks of flour, pigs and chickens with tyranid mutations.

Then have a pair of rock drill goliaths and recreate the scene from the original Total recall with a culist with a rock drill boring into the cab and yelling "screw you benny"!

Nah brah. Well, maybe the furries. Muh xenos. But the Imperium honestly doesn't give a fuck as long as you praise the Emperor, purge xenos, hand over your psykers and pay your tithes. The Imperium is actually so ridiculously diverse they don't even have standardized currency or tech levels. One planet could be a lot like Earth, but two planets down the webway, you're running into cavemen who use teeth as currency. It's like if the US spread itself out across most of a galaxy and the federal government got way more lax. It has its extreme hardliners, but it also has people who are more like your average Christian- they believe in the Emperor, go to temple and really don't have much else to do with it. Even THAT isn't standardized. He's called everything from The Emperor to the Sky Father, although the basics (savoir of mankind, et cetera) remain the same. As long as you're an Emperor-loving human they're basically chill.
