On a side note, so far I'm really digging the
>Carhartt Men's 101964 Force Extremes™ Cargo Pant
dies quick, works well at keeping the body cool in hot/cool weather conditions.
The cut is nice.

>Panzerfaust WW2 UK SAS Windproof DESERT smock
although china repo shit it makes for a damn nice warm weather smock that breathes well,
the breast pocket pleating is fake - but the pockets have a good amount of space in them anyhow making it good for stuffing with range kit and spent brass.
it isn't quick drying by any means, but in hot dry climates, that's desirable to me.

>Merrell Men's Phaserbound Waterproof Hiking Boot
already I prefer them over the Salomon 4d quest boots
The lacing system is excellent and really clamps down on your foot which prevents chafing.
The boot itself is pliable and moves with your foot which allows for a more natural walk.
The soles have more cushion which is always nice.

so far these are just my thoughts.

Went to a gunshow yesterday, local PSS/PMC group always comes and sells off their old gear (usually rifles, helmets, glocks, and well worn holsters).

Yesterday they had a bin filled with torn plate carriers. I found one that was caked with sim round paint but not torn and otherwise serviceable.

Not sure of make, but it does say USA made on the inside.

The hell did I get?

Not exactly. It's a MBC Russian knockoff of the D3CR-H. I personally dislike knockoff designs of all forms, but I've read that they perform pretty well in the field. You won't get the same build quality as the Haley Strategic ones, but if Ranger Green is your preference then you don't really have the option of getting the real thing.

I just carry my leatherman as my EDC. I work in a data center so having a knife and screwdriver in my pocket is almost necessary. I use that thing all the time.

If you're intending to carry it for self defense, I honestly couldn't tell ya. I just carry my gun when I feel the need for it. Haven't carried a knife for that reason since like my first year of college...

>>31542844
Yes it is. So long as I keep the bolts torqued down on the barrel, it doesn't move. I did find out one weekend after finger fucking my rifle that my gas block and subsequently my handguard was twisted slightly to the left from the shooter's perspective. Fixed that shit quick, though. Is there something wrong with a railed gas block having a flip up front sight on it?

Anons... I've put this off forever and a day but today was terrible....

I live inna desert, mostly farms in the few arable places. But the wind is ferocious. When it mixed with the sand its choking. the interstate goes down constantly for either wind speed or blinding sand.

I have sand goggles, but the sand is still choking and the wind is still harsh.

Should i give in and just get one of these stupid pic related? I can find it in tacticool black, or OD i'm sure. Even the brits use them. But do i really want to give in to that cod tier garbage? Is there an option B?

>>
>>31549132
I think I can speak with some authority having worn pic related inna sand storms on several occasions. A shemagh has its uses but ultimately I wound up going to the half mask tube thing made by Spec Ops gear. It is lighter, more compact and served nearly the same purpose but was easier to use with a helmet.

But I will say dousing my headwrap in cold water and wrapping up was sooooooo nice. Given the minimal investment I say get both and use each until you decide which is best for you.

Messy, fucking filthy. Sand and dust everywhere. In the day time when you can see it coming its rather ominous. We had one come in during the middle of the day in Baghdad and you could see the front line of it moving in. When it swept over it went from bright and shiny no cloud noon sky to something like dusk. Whats really bad is when its at night, I was in Balad one night went one rolled in, you had about 3 feet of visibility in the dark if that. Not fun when theres MRAPs and big ass trucks all over the place and youre trying to make it across the flight line to the other side of the FOB.

Please explain the purpose of the flash suppressor you got there.

I get its to direct sound and concussive force away from you and prevent dust kick-up, but wouldn't it make it easier for someone to figure out your shooting position based on the concentration of the noise?

It seems like it would just make it that much easier for someone to figure out where the gunfire is coming from.

Although I understand 98% of your stuff is purely dressup and cool points.

>>
>>31551886
Well, seeing as the firearm isn't suppressed to begin with, the noise coming out of an A2 birdcage and the noise coming out of a Blast Warden are going to be pretty much the exact fucking same to the receiving end. As such, why wouldn't the rifles user want to direct noise away from himself, prevent dust kick up that obscures his target vision, and hide his muzzle flashes from himself, making him able to deliver more fire more accurately to the dumb faggot on the receiving end who has now spotted him because of 2 more heard decibels triggering his elite Navy SEAL sniper sense.
>>
>>31552008
Do you have any data to backup your claims or simply "MUH DECIBELS, MUH SOUND DISPERSION"?

Due to the nature of the flash suppressor, it directs sound OUTWARDS whereas an A2 birdcage simply directs it in more or less all directions as the round exits the barrel.

My question, if you bothered to wipe the Cheeto dust off your monitor to read it, was basically does the advantage of less blast back from the barrel offset the disadvantage from funneling the sound into a more-easily located noise?

>If you don't have one then don't fucking answer, let someone who has one on their rifle.

Haven't talked about this much, but the ifak on the right side of my belt is fantastic
It unzips into two halves with two layers of elastic on each side to hold everything in place, has a Velcro strap that goes over the top to protect the zippers and once you open it the entire ifak can tear off the Velcro "panel" it comes on. Makes the whole thing super accessible and much easier to use than the hsgi one I had that was stuck in place.

USMC stuff is Eagle Industries, which used to be considered fairly Gucci until it was overshadowed by stuff like Crye.

Eagle Industries stuff is still widely used for a lot of government loadouts, even replacing some of the GI stuff made by KDH.

Even though Eagle stuff can't claim to be extremely eye catching, have turbo fancy features, and often comes in limited color schemes it is extremely solid and durable gear which has whatever feature it needs to have to fulfill military contract requirements.

Are you going for a theme, or practicality? I'll judge on practicality only, so if this is themed or nostaliga based, disregard my post. I'm speaking as somebody who started in the Army wearing ALICE gear and who briefly used LBV gear (before going back to ALICE, then going MOLLE2, then going aftermarket for gear).

I can tell you that I hate, hate, hated the LBV. Too many straps and strips and bullshit for what is a fairly low carry weight and space.

Buckling a 2qt canteen directly to your back is kind of shitty because you can't access it without taking the LBV off and it interferes with sitting and rucks.

Question: You know you are supposed to have the belt attached with the LBV? Is it just seperated for the photo?

Having 1 canteen on a belt isn't a goof idea. Either go with 2 or none for weight balance reasons.

What is in all the GP pouches on your belt?

Overall, its about a 3/10. You tried, but it is very clunky. Honestly, for as much hate as it gets, a GI FLC setup, seperate camelbak backpack, and a cheap belt would be much better. The FLC isn't great over armor, but neither is the LBV, so they are about equal on that front, and you will have a more organized gear platform.

I know the belt attaches, I just want a 2 line system. And I don't have armor, so no sense in worrying about that. I will switch the pouches around too, I'm just testing it real quick.

The pouches are a 20 rounder which I'm using for said mags, and opposite is a first aid pouch which I will fill with immediate trauma items. I have the 200 saw pouch as a dump/go. I'm going to switch it with the canteen

I also really like the flc, it's just my issue one is moon camo so I need to buy one in coyote, preferably cheap. I also need to find the pouches I want in coyote

/gq/ I have some night vision questions and I know you guys are all smart richfags. Price isn't really a concern

I'm looking for helmet mountable goggles for night ops, usually some light (buildings, moon, street lights) but 0 light is a possibility. Need to be able to read maps and also scan fields/forests for soft targets and vehicles primarily.
I would also like IR ability to check and see if a car was running recently or soft targets inna woods.
Do they have 2 in 1 goggles or would it be better to get flip up NV and like a FLIR binocular to use as a scanner before advancing?
It's a 2 man team so could get 1 each or would it be better to get 2 NVs and a FLIR? Its easier to move with NV over IR I assume?
I'd like to be able to scan for game cameras and the like if possible.
Bionocular swappable lenses on the NV would be nice but not required. Would it be better to get a dedicated NV binocular to switch to over hot swapping lenses on the goggles in the field?
I was looking at the ATN PS15-4 for goggle option w set of binocular lenses.

Updated a bit. Not quite a poorfag, I just don't like spending too much money on hobbies.

First line belt, my left to right: 20-rounder pouch (minimum 'shoot back' supply, or GP if rolling out full kit), 200 round SAW pouch (dump pouch), canteen, IFAK (filled with modern US Army IFAK refill), compass/dressing pouch

Second line vest: 6 total 30-rounder magazines, 2 grenades/very small GP, can attach buttpack to in combination with belt if rolling out in full kit. Either attached to belt or separate (which allows using a ruck)

Ruck has those two canteen pouches on there just to keep them there for now (or if my ruck is full). Belt secured with carabiners on each side. Vest fits easily underneath the ruck. Can shoot back immediately and get to cover, quick-release ruck, and attach belt quickly.

Still not a final set up, open to criticisms and help

Yes it is, I bought it off of Ebay and haven't been able to find another one like it. I did have to have the Alice webbing sewn on to the sides where I have my pouches, but other than that, it was pretty good right out of the packaging.

Alice aside, if this new MOLLE 4k turns out to be as good as all the airborne dudes say it is, I may consider keeping it over my medium ruck in the pic after I turn my shit into CIF.

As a long time /k/ommando who has followed /k/ through much time, I strike a motion that gear queer threads should be split into two different generals, one for showing off *new* shiny gee-whizz gear with lots of new OC focusing on the newness of the gear itself, and a different "personal loadout thread" for discussing loadouts and philosophies related gear layout.

The two threads I think are distinct enough in content to warrant a split, and god knows this board needs more decent quality threads to push out the low effort mush.

I get where you're coming from and the notion intrigues me, but gq threads have seemed pretty well paced lately...that is, if /arg/ trips don't shit it up any worse.

Problem is, I think the two threads will start to overlap pretty quickly. I have noticed a 'loadout' thread but it looks lame (innawoods/templates), but maybe some of us start spending more time in there

The most important difference is gonna be: new gq threads cover technical shit (helping people size plates, compare camouflages etc) and loadout threads cover personal experience and applications/philosophies
