Something typically German is again so original, innovative, well designed, manufactured and demonstrated that it Again scares the shit out of the rest of the world, therefore adding magic in it.

You won't believe chinks can make flying saucers. But you will absolutely believe it from Germans.

Maybe you can find a Canadian that still has one of theirs Post-Ban and ask him.
>>
>>31540683
Germans look at each component as if it has an integral part of the entire machine. That's why you get ridiculous parts that interface with dozens of other parts for no real reason.

In America if someone tells us to design a hammer with X specifications we couldn't give a shit how it's being used or what's interfacing with it as long a it meets spec.

Yes. It was featured in the 90's movie Demolition man which is what caused the panic that banned them. They were also famous in the 80's for being a futuristic caseless design... That actually worked.

German Engineer here.

Yeah, we love to make complicated stuff. And we are good at this..

Doesnt mean, that every complicated item has ti be so complicated.

To be short: most germans cannot into KISS principle.

We build technical miracles but you need a degree to operste them
>>
>>31543031
I imagine the majority of the people you're going to find here did, but it was certainly unknown for average normies on the street. I was aware of it in the 90s but first really got interested after IGI 2 and a UT99 mutator that had it.

Not overly, long like a typical smg mag. But if that is troublesome you could always use the plastic refillers quite easily.

>>31540683
Its actually not that complicated.
It has all the normal components of a rifle, they're just in an orientation you're not used to recognizing. It can look a bit intimidating because the striker mechanism is attached to the gears of war. Everything its a self contained unit aside from the linkage and trigger itself.

The diagram in pic related simplifies things greatly.
It is very much clock-like, and at the same time there is a masterful simplicity to how everything works.

>>31544719
>>31544766
Glad someone posted these already.
>>
>>31549922
Let me expand on this a bit

It has no direct bolt face, the chamber itself rotates and locks into position, and the striker mechanism mates with the back of the rotating chamber.
The spring loaded plunger on the back of the unit is what hits the primer.
The gas piston under the barrel actuates the rotating of the chamber while cycling, in the photos above you can see the linkage connecting the piston to it. Sort of like the rod on a train wheel.
The majority of when you see above the chamber is simply the feeding mechanism. It mates with the magazines, and allows them to enter the open chamber when turned 90 degrees.
The little rotary system for charging it, replacing a reciprocating charging handle, is only a few parts, and once you understand what they're doing there isn't any mystery left to the mechanism.
>>
>>31540683
Imagine if we had this instead of the L85.

>I can't figure out how to jam it!
>>
>>31549922
Think of it less in a straight "how hard is it to understand" sense and more in a "how much of a nightmare is this mechanism going to be to machine." It looks more like a Madsen or a Vickers than an AK or an AR. That's not a good thing for when you're trying to arm the vast majority of your army with them.

Also, caseless leads to some... interesting problems. If you haven't read it, read Jim Schatz's powerpoint on it.

Bullshit, grunts can and always will find a way to break absolutely anything they get near, let alone spend large amounts of time with.
>>
>>31553329
This is why i love /k/
>>
>>31553329
As someone who has worked in machine shops in one industry or another for a decade now, nothing there is hard to machine. Not by a long shot. Not evey remotely. Those words have literally no meaning whatsoever, you're just regurgitating terms you know nothing about.
Once they're designed, prototyped, revised, and QC cleared for production, they're going to be ran by mindless monkies. There is no real thought put into something once production has started. Every individual part is not being ran by a single operator on a CNC mill.

Literally not a single fucking part of this firearm requires intensive tooling time.

The issues with caseless ammo cracking and demonstrating chamber detonation are independet from the design of the G11 itself.
>>
>>31554129
You can't tell me that it's just as easy to mass produce Stens as it is to mass produce G11s. I agree that both of them can be made on an assembly line, but one will be much much harder to make, and therefore much more expensive. Adopting a indigenous rifle is a compromise between effectiveness and cost.

Regardless, the G11 failed because it was a flawed design, not because it was expensive.
>>
>>31542446
Going to do this next year. Wish me luck
>>
>>31540683
One does not simply masters kraut space magic
>>
>>31554172
An AR15, and an AK, are both more complex firearms to produce than a Sten.
Again this statement is equally as meaningless. How complex something looks to a layman has nothing to do with how much machining is actually involved and how much it costs to produce.
>>
So I've never actually seen the 3 round recoilless burst in a video of the G11. Anyone got a link?
>>
>>31543031
I know it from the wargame series, german fallschirmjägers 90's are equipped with it
>>
>>31554187
>implying I'm a layman

You also seem to have missed the part where I said there was a balance between cost and effectiveness.

There is a reason we still issue everyone M4s instead of SCAR Ls
>>
>>31554207
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFwi-0C646M
>yes, that's a 3 round burst you're hearing, pay close attention
It's not recoilless, it's just that the recoil from all 3 rounds only begins to affect the G11's position after the projectiles have exited the barrel thus making that burst fall on target pretty much like a single round would.
>>
>>31543031
I first saw it in Delta Force Land Warrior. Of course I didn't pay much attention to it since it was implemented like shit and also it looks kinda bland on the outside.

>>
>>31543002
American weapon demands ask for guns that can survive being thrown in a volcano, shoot straighter than their counterparts, pack a bigger punch, and are cheaper to produce.

And then we tell the Belgians and/or Germans to fuck off because Colt played better politics with us.
>>
>>31554595
In effect yes, but they're different systems: the Nikonov shoots 2 rounds per burst at a lower rate and it uses a cable&pulley arrangement that should be simpler. It's also in limited use.

But it shot lasers in Demolition Man.

Surely no one believed we had working laser guns...

Wat?
In Demolition Man they used it as a generic laser gun, not an advanced caseless assault rifle.

That's like saying the banned the WA2000 because they use it as a shotgun in Equilibrium.
