Hey /k/, use to lurk but never was able to really get into guns. Circumstances have changed and I want to get an AR15. Now money won't be an issue after the first of the year, but I'm impatient. I have around $500 to play with. Is it possible /k/?
Suggestions on parts, post your builds, inspire me.

I built this one for around 600
>>

Nice, did you get complete upper/lower? Or assemble your own?
>>
>>31537692
Stop being a fag and save up a bit more money
>>
>>31537905
Have a wedding to pay for, finishing my house to sell, and going to Vegas at the end of the month. I'll have plenty I'm a few months, and will probably build one without budget regardless, I just want one now, and only about $500 or so to spare
>>
>>31537692
Buy an Anderson or Aero lower, and a PSA parts kit. That's what I did here behind enemy lines. Without conversion parts it was like $550 I think.
>>
>>31537891
the lower was an 80% and I bought a stripped surplus m16a1 upper that had a small crack in it, that I brazed.

Any opinions on polymer lowers? Read some good reviews (but not /k/ approved) on new frontier lw-15 lower
>>
>>31538047
I personally wouldn't buy one because you can find Anderson lowers for like $40

>"building" a gun

It's like building a PC. You spend way too much money for some shit that's going to be less reliable than a prebuilt.
>>
>>31538075
Stripped lowers for that, but could I get everything else I'd need for the $70 difference?
>>
>>31538110
PSA has a lot of different kits that contain everything but the lower, here's one for example: http://palmettostatearmory.com/ptac-16-m4-5-56-nato-slick-side-1-7-nitride-rifle-kit.html
>>
>>31538105
Are you fucking retarded?
>>
>>31538137
Wow ty. So with that I'd just need a stripped lower correct?
>>
>>31538209
Yep, you'll need some basic tools like punches and an AR wrench to put it together but it's a very easy and straightforward process.
>>
>>31538209
>>31538137
Ignore me I skimmed right over the description that answers my question
>>
>>31537692
Ruger 556s and mp15s are both on sale for about $550 this weekend.

The instructional videos at Midwayusa.com are great for that.

Where at?
>>
>>31538105
Building a gun is probably the best thing to do if you want to know how to maintain a gun.

Though you should take it in to get looked at by a professional before firing if you are new.
>>
>>31538405
I have a gun enthusiast for a father in law. I'm just coming to /k/ for help so I'm not reduced in his eyes lol

Seriously? it's on backwards
>>
>>31538105
You're right about it being like building a PC, but wrong on literally every other account.
>>
>>31537919
I'm sorry but 500 bucks gets u a cheap peice of shit that may blow up in your face I u shoot it enough or wear out the parts/bore. there's a reason decent quality guns are more expensive but If u learn anything about guns once u have a cheap turd u will recognize what it is. Save up the damn money or buy a ak if u want something cheap that will last(but with those stay away from American made because they are much more cheaply built than foreign as someone who fell for the c39v2 meme I know)
>>
>>31538482
Not even once. Save up and do it right. I was originally going to do the PTAC route, but ended up getting an Aero upper and a BCM barrel. No regrets.

Buy once cry once. I got a shitty AIM sports quad rail first time around and after the thing drooped and kept coming loose I ended up sucking it up and buying a decent one from Larue Tactical. You get what you pay for. Cutting corners costs more in the long run.
>>
>>31540681
everyone's cost-benefit analysis is different. Op doesnt really give a fuck about 5 years down the road. a <$600 AR will fit his current needs/wants just fine.
>>
>>31540708
I guess. I just don't like buying shit that breaks easily.

"What is it like to fire an AR-15? It’s horrifying, menacing and very very loud.

It felt to me like a bazooka β€” and sounded like a cannon.

But mostly, I was just terrified.

Squeeze lightly on the trigger and the resulting explosion of firepower is humbling and deafening (even with ear protection).

The recoil bruised my shoulder, which can happen if you don't know what you're doing. The brass shell casings disoriented me as they flew past my face. The smell of sulfur and destruction made me sick. The explosions β€” loud like a bomb β€” gave me a temporary form of PTSD. For at least an hour after firing the gun just a few times, I was anxious and irritable."

Plastic ones are finicky. Just get an aluminum milspec. Any brand will do. Andersons are cheap and common. Lurk PSA for a rifle build kit for a while until you find one you like.

My build was

PSA Freedom Rifle melonite barrel complete upper + lower build kit + magpul 60rd drum mag - 425 shipped

Anderson lower - $75 at lgs

Magpul backup rear sight and 3 30rd pmags - $75

Total: $575

Probably gonna sell the meme drum mag since its worth like $110 new and i really dont have much use for it.

Or alternatively. punch in your zippy and call them all and ask them what's the cheapest they'll do on a bushmaster O.R.C

Is the high price of 100% lower receivers due to regulations, or does the last 20% of milling actually cost a few hundred dollars?
