Ausfag here. What's a good starting rifle for target shooting and the occasional hunt?

Anything CZ, Howa or Stevens is good. If you can find old used remingtons in good condition, they're pretty good.

I have a CZ 52. It's a little plinker of a .22, but it's fucking beautiful. Smooth, got on target with 2 mags of 5 rounds out of the box. Only issue with CZ's is they won't like to eat dirt cheap ammo, but they don't mind bargain ammo.

Sorry mate, slingshots are banned
>>
>>31530062
Depends what you want to do mate, you cant go passed a bolt 22. Everyrange has competions for it and rabbits and foxes can be taken with it. If you go centrefire get a savage axis in a non barrel burning calibre ie. all the 6mm or WSM or WSSM or WSSSSSM.
>>
>>31530703
can recommend .243 WSSM. just about the right size for what you're likely to encounter, and the high velocity saves the effort of aiming high or leading targets so you can look like a better shooter than you actually are.

>>31530062
Just get a Howa 1500 in .223

Cheap, accurate, and ammo is friendlier on the wallet than other centrefire calibers

Plenty on the used market as well
>>
>>31530747
It costs about 4x what .223 does if/when it's available locally in Aus, as another Ausfag, would not recommend at all, .243w though is cheap enough and available everywhere.
>>
>>31530062
Personally I'd hold off on buying ANYTHING till the NFA review come out. Either you will get new types of toys to play with or you will be banned from owning stuff you have now (eg 10 rounders like in the pic banned)
>>
>>31530916
Only thing that's likely to get changed in the NFA is moving lever shotguns to cat C, as retarded as that is. They're not going to touch a boltgun with an internal mag, specially not an SMLE
>>
>>31530929
Isn't the SMLE an external magazine though? I thought the soldier were just taught to reload via stripper clips because they couldn't afford to stamp out all the magazines, and they thought soldiers were too dumb to hold onto their spares?
>>
>>31530929
Enfield mags are removable, not to mention they could pin them as well.

I wouldn't put anything past them.

I deep down hope our gun laws will become more common sense (as in looser and better for us shooters) But I need to always keep in mind these people won't rest till all guns are banned for civilians.
>>
>>31530938
>>31530940
Removable yes but when was the last time you saw a SMLE mag removed? further when was the last time you saw someone reload an Enfield by changing the mag or saw a spare Enfield mag for sale that wasn't over 60 years old. For all intents and purpose they are an internal mag rifle and have been used as such for over 100 years.

>>31530940
>I wouldn't put anything past them.
The last thing they are going to push is bolt actions like the Enfield, it will be lever shotguns because it's a hot topic and pistols and possibly 7600/7615's if anyone is evil enough to show the power that be someone using them in a comp.
>>
>>31530964
I don't think they'd care if it isn't a common thing to remove. They only need to hear that it can be to ban.
>>
>>31530984
You think the same people that talked about modern rapid fire technology in reference lever shotgun are going to know that a WW1/WW2 service rifle mag is actually removable, despite never getting removed...
>>
>>31530246
I have the Lithgow LA102 but would suggest you go for the Tika because accessories are more prevalent.

I also have a Mossberg MVP 223 which has been faultless over 1000s of rounds
>>
>>31530904
You shouldn't fire enough shots hunting for ammo to be a concern. Culling is different of course but that probably isn't a high priority for OP
>>
>>31531266
OP said target shooting and the occasional hunt, no sane person would use a WSSM for a target round, unless they were rich enough they also started their fire using notes.
>>
>>31531286
my mistake possibly. I thought each purpose is a different gun.

>>31531543
Don't worry, your strange system of mid-term elections will mean that even if she somehow gets Democratic control of both upper and lower houses, she'll lose it two years in to the Republicans, because they always seem to do well.

I really don't think the the Supreme Court nominations are as much a threat to 2A as most Americans do either. They can only rule on what's put in front of them, so with a little tactical lawyering and court manoeuvring, a strategic loss here and there by pro-gun lobbyists, very little might actually reach them.

I think you just posted it.
You guys also made a heavy barreled SMLE in the 1930s (mostly on 1915 and before actions). Look for an H on the barrel knox. Although, if you find one they are probably expensive.
I got this one for next to nothing ;^^^)

but seriously why are they so hard to find? is it legal to build my own and register it or get an ABN and call myself a manufacturer?
>>
>>31531783
>but seriously why are they so hard to find?
Because the crossover between sport fishermen/divers and firearm owners is sooooo low yet they are covered by firearms laws.
>>
>>31531783
>or get an ABN and call myself a manufacturer?
Getting an ABN and starting a company is extremely easy.

But starting a company that specifically manufactures those would probably be a lot harder. You'd have to have a dealer's licence, you'd have to manufacture them to certain specifications, you'd have to go through the expense of getting them engineered and tested to specifications.

Good safe to buy for pistol and rifle?

Also good first rifle for $500 or less?

My short-term goal is to get my licence, but I want to flee the country as soon as possible, just wondering how much time it would take me to sell them if I get the opportunity.

Realistically, I wouldn't be moving overseas in the next two years though, but it's something I've been thinking about.

>>
>>31531889
The process is straightforward but time consuming, on the buyers end but most dealers will hold the firearm for the seller.
>>
>>31531834
>Good safe to buy for pistol and rifle?

I have a Liberty Centurion which is about the best budget safe on the market as it's both more secure than the other shit available and it's fireproof.

>Also good first rifle for $500 or less?

Anything made by Savage (or their subsidiary Stevens). They're affordable but they're US made and high quality, accurate guns.
>>
>>31531909
>Liberty Centurion
nigga how is this a budget safe
>>
>>31531905
Are you restricted to dealers within your state? Or can you hand it over to any dealer?
>>
>>31531933
No, any dealer you've got a relationship with, I've bought 2 rifles interstate, the buyer pays their local dealer a transfer fee, usually around $100
You take it to your dealer(Not sure if a fee applies) your dealer ships to interstate dealer
>>
>>31531909
Sorry man, the cheapest centrefire Savages go for like $650 these days, under $500 is really only second hand market now.

>nigga how is this a budget safe

Because it's $500, fireproof, and is, you know, a safe?

Anything that costs less than that is a gun locker which can be opened with a screwdriver and will have all of your guns turned into a charred ruin if your house ever catches fire.

Shit it pays for itself simply with the god-tier warranty that gets you a replacement if it ever survives a housefire or some burglar fucks its shit up with a blowtorch.
>>
>>31531968
Where'd you buy it from for 500 AU?

Wasn't it bypassed by simply blocking them at the import phase?, like they have with .50bmg, legal to own in a few states but illegal to import components for.

the government agreed to add a sunset clause on the import ban of 7 shot adlers. then when the time came they said nah lol we lied. and that was that. how the fuck can they do that?

I own an amsec BF series safe. They're somewhat pricey, but the only safes that beat them out on overall protection are graffunders, and those cost a shit ton more. Unlike most safe brands that use drywall for fireproofing, AMSEC uses a poured concrete as its fireproofing for its high-end safes, which is harder to drill/saw through, and is heavy as fuck. It makes stealing them harder, and cracking them harder. If you're made of money get a Graffunder. If you're doing good but not rich get an amsec. If you're poor get a liberty or something similar.

Pic related, an interior shot of my amsec BF series firesafe.

I heard the NT registry banned them, which would make it the first gun since 1996 to get banned by the NT registry.

Also not legal in WA, NSW and the ACT.
But Qld is definitely approved Cat B but I don't think any have landed in the country yet.
