I just want it to be a bit more comfortable to shoot. I'm 5'6 and the 21 inch barrel alone isn't very fun to have. I hate the stock as well, but if it's smarter to keep it the way it is I will.

OP here, to clarify, I understand the value of this rifle, the only reason why im considering modifying it is due to how uncomfortable it is to shoot. 5'6 with a rifle this long is too much for me personally.
Concerning the cost: I'm aware that I paid more than it's retail in other states, unfortunately this was the cheapest I could find in my state - In CT they placed a preban law on any lower receivers manufactured before (i believe 1980) this is why the cost of these guns have skyrocketed. I cannot go out of state to purchase a lower legally either.

So I just finished an a1 build, but I used the brownells upper and lower so I have to get it refinished

I figure I'll need to take the thing apart before I send it to Norrell's, but how far do I need to disassemble it, and what parts do I actually need to send in?

Send him the receivers stripped. Hardest bit will be reinstalling the parts. Also, make sure Brownells didn't fuck the parts. It's pretty much confirmed they're getting the rejects from NDS.

Yeah my upper is a little fucked (still functional however) and there was a review posted to their site a few says ago from someone whose carry handle was clearly out of spec. I was pretty upset with mine, I still can't imagine getting something like that pic in the mail.

I've got a 92 colt HBAR myself, and you can find relatively inexpensive pre-ban AR's in other states that you can bring into CT. just be aware of differences with some of the colt models with "large pin" triggers and slightly different dimensions on the upper and lower that prevent the use of aftermarket parts.

CT has had an AWB since the 80's. they updated it in the 90's. a "pre-ban" is exempted from the AWB, but it has to have been manufactured prior to 1994. if it's later than 94, there's all sorts of restrictions on features and actions and even colors. because of limited supply, shit gets expensive really quick.
