Poorfag here, looking for some decent sights that won't break the bank. I already ordered a Hogue short stock for it. Spending limit is around $100.
Pic related. Its my scattergat.

Doable, but that's gonna require some gunsmithing, how much are you comfortable doing?
>>31520359
There's this
http://www.maverick88.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=66
But it's out of stock and seems a bit shit, but dunno for sure.
>>31520371
Never really done much gunsmithing but I'm sure I can handle it with tutorials.
>>31520383
See if you can track down one of those heatshields with the sights, I was originally gonna suggest getting factory sights for a 500\590 and installing those would be a pretty big job. would have to drill and tap the receiver for the rear and silver solder the front on.
Honestly, you're better off buying a cheap chink or turk shotgun with the sights already on it and selling the Maverick IMO.

I greatly prefer beads for shotguns so I'm pretty biased but maybe just replace the stock one with a hi-viz one? I think they make fiber optic ones for pretty cheap
Anyone have an el cheapo shotgun that has changeable chokes?
>>31520729
H&r pardner pump
Nydar
>>31520962
That has interchangeable chokes?
>>31520478
Do the magnetic sights stay on during firing?
>>31520987
some models do some dont think all the 18s are no choke full
>>31520383
dont buy a heatsheild with sights its shit
>>31522643
Then why bother?
Are there any lasting ways to reduce Mossberg Rattle? I've heard that people put felt chair pads on the action, but that they also wear out fairly quickly.
Any tips?
>>31522729
stop giving a fuck and just shoot the thing
eventually you stop caring about the wobble
>>31522740
Remind me to not buy a shitburg.
>>31520478
I replaced the original bead on my 870 with a Hi-Viz universal screw in type kit. I'm very happy. Magnetic a shit.
>>31522758
remfag detected.
>>31522807
Na mossshill remshit is bad too.
There doesn't seem to be a truly good pump action available at the moment. Maybe the weatherby? Maybe?
>>31522807
>>31522897
Any thoughts on the new Ithaca Model 37s? I know they are pricey, are they worth it?
>>31520359
Are you opposed to a cheap red dot like the Bushnell TRS-25? Another option is to find a slug barrel with rifle sights already installed.
>>31522958
They don't come with chokes; in fact they're not even threaded. Is therefore not worth buying in my opinion.
Fingers crossed weatherby and Winchester put removable ejectors on their shotguns
Shotgun thread?
I was just given a pre 68 Springfield/savage 947d, break barrel, single shot shotgun. It's a 12 gauge with a 3" chamber, I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find more information about it?
I wanna pick up some cheap shit to shoot through it, is there anything I should avoid in such an old, cheap shotgun? I don't believe it's choked, but I'll check with a micrometer before I actually shoot anything other than birdshot.
I dropped $150 more for the 500 with heat shield and ghost rings, very happy
>>31523057
You can shoot slugs and buckshot through pretty much any choke.
>>31523098
I figured slugs wouldn't fit through a choke? Even rifled slugs?
How much do chokes actually restrict the barrel diameter?
Also, anyone have any experience with a vepr 12? If I were to get one, it would basically be my first shotgun, other than the single shot one I just got.
>>31523142
>Even rifled slugs?
the rifling on a slug isnt there to impart spin its there so the slug can compress when going through a choke
the only shotguns that cant fire slugs safely are old as fuck with shit metallurgy or the choke was improperly installed
>>31523185
I always that the rifling was there so it would hit the barrel and spin. Learn something new every day.
>the only shotguns that cant fire slugs safely are old as shit
That's what I'm worried about. How old are you talking? The barrel on this thing seems about as thick as an 870s, but
>with shit metallurgy
has me kinda worried.
I guess it's a moot point though, I shot some turkey load through a Mossberg 500 and my shoulder was sore as fuck for 2 days. I'm gonna shoot the lightest loads I can find for a while until I can learn to properly learn to shoulder a rifle/shotgun.
>>31523247
Pretty much anything rated for smokeless is going to be fine. When he said "old as fuck" he meant old black powder shotguns. My 112 year old 1897 Winchester takedown handles buckshot and 1oz slugs just fine.
>>31523313
I was kinda thinking that, but I figured I err on the side of caution. If I have any doubts about certain loads, ill just strap it in a gun vice and shot it from a distance with a string bitch style.
is it possible to thread the barrel for a muzzle attachment on a mossberg 500 i cant find shit on the googles about it so im assuming the barrels on the cheap guns are too thin or some shit
>>31523371
if its got modern markings like 2 3/4 or 3 on it its probably fine
unless its a damascus barrel
>>31523379
I think the barrel is slightly too thin to cut threads into. It would probably be cheaper to get a new barrel with threads already on it. But you could possibly have a small outer liner friction welded onto the last 1.5" of barrel and threads cut into that?
Get a high visibility fiber optic sight you can get one for a Mossburg 500 which of course will fit like pretty much all 500 parts, on the 88 with no issue all you need is a front sight for it works great on mine $30 at Academy came with another choke too
>>31522973
>>31520359
No I'm not, just looking for something better than the stock bead sight.
>>31520478
I do on field shotguns and they work on shorter barrels but I finally got a good set of ghost rings and they are really worth it.
>>31522807
Remingtons have a bit of play as well, it's normal.
>>31523571
the last set of fibers I had went dark, keep in mind that they have a shelf life and the filaments will eventually need to be replaced.
>>31523604
Your cheapest option to increase visibility is a good paint. I use luminescent paint, which is really easy to get on a bead. The Maverick bead is kind of dull if I remember correctly. A heat shield combo is not what you want. If you must have a sight go with a mossberg 500 optic and get it installed correctly. For me it was worth it to go up a price bracket and get a shotgun with rails and a factory ghost ring.
if you got one with a ribbed barrel dead ringer sights aren't bad, i like the set i have on mine
