I'd be more worried about why your upper/ammo is so shite that you need to mortar in the first place.

Why are americans so stupid?

Afternarket AR stocks are not drop tested.

The LMT SOPMOD and other clones are known to break/adjustment pin bent from 1 3-foot drop with an 8 pound rifle equivalent.

You mean tacticool cheap Chinese garbage. Buttstocks are for buttstroking.
>>
>>31517772

It's a highly unregulated field. However, there are some specifications for drop testing on page 54 of this document.

My bcm stock broke a few weeks ago as well. I also had to mortar a round as the round got stuck in there good. BCM sent me a replacement stock free.

I was shooting independence and magtech 5.56 and I don't know which one caused that.
>>
>>31517955
Hahahaha I would not admit this shit if I was an ARfag. I'll add you two anons to the ranks of queerbait and dr8c0, who also broke their ARs when mortaring jams.

Take this as you will, but most of the guys I work with use magpul moe stocks, SOPMOD stocks, or just the plain old regular M4 adjustable stock.
>>
>>31517987

Meh if my experience can help someone out in the future I don't care. The AR wasn't broken, just the stock. I didn't even realize it broke until I got home to clean it.

It is a little annoying a stock would break like that, will probably look for something better in the future
>>
>>31518026

But I did collapse the stock. That's what bothers me
>>
>>31517877
You don't have to get A2, though. There are a number of companies making the slightly shorter A1 size of stock that is better with body armor or when squared off. Or you can get an ACE fixed stock that is Stonk Like Bear, made of proper aluminum instead of plastic.
>>
>>31517346
All adjustable stocks will break. Don't buy the hype. Some may be a bit more durable than others, but not by much.

The only adjustable AR stock that will stand up to substantially more abuse is the Magpul UBR, but that thing is a pig.
>>
>>31518078

Yeah, it's expensive and it needs its own special snowflake buffer tube.

Bravo Eugene
>>
>>31518091
Not to mention the weight most of all. I like it and had it on one lower for a short while, but I don't think I'd ever want one again.

Just use whatever stock you like best, again they're all going to perform fairly closely in this regard. I still thing the the original CAR, SOPMOD, and IMOD stocks are the best. Always felt the M4 was garbage and the MOE/CTR was all hype. Haven't tried many of the newly released (past ~4+ years) stocks.
>>
>>31518031
Does that sopmod have enough room in those battery compartments for cleaning rods? Been using the a2 stock solely because i can stuff a rod in it.

I guess i could nigger rig a handguard to undersling it like a proper rifle though.
>>
>>31517346

If i don't know or remember who the manufacturer is than it is shit and not worth the purchase.

What sort of malfunction requires mortaring an AR?
>>
>>31518322
>>31518330

Really? Have you faggots never had a stuck case the bolt has a good bite on? Even a damn ak requires a swift kick sometimes.
>>
>>31518330
Stuck casing. As you can see by reading this thread it happens quite a lot because ARs are shit. When this happens in the field you need to disassemble your gun and tap the stuck casing out with a dowel. Trying to clear the malfunction by mortaring will cause your gun to break. Even if the stock is collapsed, as evidenced by this thread and the testimonies therein.
>>
>>31518357
This has literally never happened to me.
>>
>>31518207
No clue. Those compartments have been stuck ever since I got the rifle and I haven't bothered to try opening them up.

Why are you carrying cleaning rods with you anyway? Why not just a bore snake if you're worried about cleaning out your rifle?
>>
>>31518476
Stuck cases? Its the reason this thread even exists.

Ive had one where the case was stuck and the extractor tore off a nice wedge shaped piece so it couldnt latch onto the rim anymore.

Had to assemble a cleaning rod to knock the thing out from the muzzle. Aint no boresnake going to put that kind of work in.

The one thing i like about AKs. The rod is conveniently under the barrel and easily deployed.
>>
>>31517346
What did you smash it on, the range bench?
>>
>>31518207
Isn't there some anon who has a cleaning rod rigged on his AR like that?

Why not just use a gerber to extract the casing? That's what I do anytime a casing is really stuck in the chamber. Also if the extractor is busted your rifle is going to have problems that are going to require some real repairs beyond using either a cleaning rod or gerber. But hey you do you.

>>31519108
What coffee shops do you know that issue M4s? I'd like to put in my application.

Speaks to the to the poor quality of most AR-style rifles. I've been saying it for years and getting shouted down by the legion of AR fags on this board.

And that's why I stick to quality firearms even if I have to pay a couple hundred bucks more.
