Which company should win the contract for the Modular Handgun System and why is Glock the objectively correct answer?
>>
>>31513077
Beretta, now fuck off.
>>
>>31513083
/thread
>>
>>31513083
>>31513090
But their proposed M9A3 was already shut down.
>>
I always liked the Beretta and I've always liked the Glock. I don't care which wins out.

I did, however, carry the Beretta into combat. Dirt, rain and extreme temperatures had no negative effects.
>>
>>31513077
When would the result come out?
I have no idea how this works.
>>
>>31513141
I know a guy who got two close quarters kills with a Beretta. Which is not to say it's an excellent gun, but it does the job. Ideally whatever the military picks should not have a manual safety on it, but I know top leadership is idiotically scared of such a thing. I think something like the 92G pistol with just a decocker would be a great improvement over an M9/92F style safety.

And another guy who's Beretta deflected an AK round as well, so at the very least you can make the argument that metal frame pistol make useful leg armor.
>>
Modular? Sig, bitch.
>>
>>31513077
tec9
>>
>>31513215
That's a well placed argument.

I'm glad your friend got the drop on them.
>>
>>31513243
He was crawling into a culvert to check out some (((((dead))))) enemy bodies. Real tunnel rat shit.
>>
>>31513215
SOF has already moved to glocks.
>>
>>31513284
I meant no manual safety for GI pistols. Leadership is never going to approve a GI pistol without a manual safety. SOF is a different culture.
>>
>glock
Thats not how you spell FNS.
>>
>>31513077
Mp5
>>
>>31513261
If you're interested in warfare movies, check out "9th Company." It's a story about Russian paratroopers fighting in Afghanistan. They encounter tunnel systems as well.
>>
>>31513120
It was initially shut down. Its just now its a more open field. The M9A3 met 86% of the conditions so with a little tinkering they could improve it and will probably get the contract.
>>
>>31513142
Results wont come out for 1-2 years.

Also, Ive heard this isnt a giant contract like the M9A1 was. If that is the case then they have an advantage in the fact that any repairs are dirt cheap as almost any part from an A1 can be used
>>
M&P dropped from competition!

http://kitup.military.com/2016/09/army-drops-smith-wesson-pistol-competition.html

Just when you thought M&P fags could not be BT more FO, the US Army come along and kicks them while MAC has them down. Extra shifts on suicide watch?
>>
>>31513426
Read that earlier. S&W even partnered with Gen Dynamics to help design it and still came up with a shitheel
>>
>>31513367
They didn't even submit the M9A3, the Beretta in the running is the APX. So if the XM17 actually hits procurement it will not be an M9A3.

RIP
>>
>>31513234
Some kind of weird dodge stratus
>>
>>31513423
At first they made it sound like a small contract. Every time I read about it now the number keeps going up.
>>
methinks this will be decided pretty quick. Congress and top brass are pissed that so much money is being spent just to decide which gun to use let alone a contract for new sidearms.

>The program's complexity has been stifling, prompting complaints from the Army's top general and Congress. The paper outlining the MHS's requirements runs a ridiculous 350 pages. Senator John McCain described the handgun selection process as "byzantine", and Army Chief of Staff General Mark Miley complained in March, "We're not figuring out the next lunar landing. This is a pistol. Two years to test? At $17 million?" Miley claimed he could walk into a Cabelas outdoors store with $17 million dollars and buy a handgun for every person in the military.

>walk into a Cabelas outdoors store with $17 million dollars and buy a handgun for every person in the military.

Literally my sides. This general sounds like the kind of guy you'd enjoy drinking beers with
>>
The British Army adopted the Gen 4 Glock 17 as the service pistol and there haven't been any incidents i know of
>>
>>31513568
I don't know much about it, but it and the SIG P320 are the only two that satisfy the "Modular" requirement. The rest have separate full size and compact models which. Besides a bunch of weird semi-requirements like that, they're also allowing multiple cartridges and comparing damage to 9mm ball, so who the fuck knows what's going to happen. All in all it's turned into another fine Pentagon style goat rope.
>>
>>31513077
I really want to say the VP9, but I know for a fact it won't get chosen exclusively because of the paddle release.
>>
>>31513350
Great movie
>>
>>31513688
There are a few worth a damn that did not get "retired" yet
>>
>>31513077
It's most likely going to be the Glock 19 Gen 3 considering it is already part of the supply network and is asked for by name by many in the SOF units. It's cheap to boot.
>>
Glock of some kind would make the most sense. </nutn>

I hate every single part of that gun.
Slide serrations, jagged blocky sights, magazine release, trigger, trigger guard, front strap, back strap, magwell, slide stop, take down lever, logos, logo placement, frame aesthetics.

Worst looking polymer to date, and it has all the others that came before it to learn from. What a fucking shame. I wish designers would use repetition in design, rather than have a gun that looks like it was made from a scrap pile of different parts. Look at the serrations all over it, not one of them are the same.

Slide has gaping serrations all the way from front to back for some reason, the stop has thin tiny serrations, almost invisible checkers on the mag release. Raised nipples on the front strap, and waffles to the sides. What looks like bead blasting in the back, three rounded grooves in front of the take down. Solid pin on the frame, roll pins on the sights. What the fuck, it's like they wanted to piss off visual autists like me, that like to buy good looking guns.

They are almost never used as weapons. If they are the difference in quality is so meaningless the money would save more lives if allocated to other infrastructure.

Glock? Are you kidding, most of the functionally retarded people in the Army can't be trusted with a M9.
>pull into FOB in a convoy made up of different units
>some female Major gets out and walks over to the clearing barrels
>everyone standing in line while NCOs at the barrels clear everyone by the numbers
>she walks up to a clearing barrel nobody is standing at because she's a officer and shouldn't have to wait
>draws M9, racks the slide with out dropping mag
>points at clearing barrel, flips it to fire, BOOM!
>everyone freezes, she looks confused, racks the slide again, points, BOOM!
>everyone dumbfounded
>she racks the slide a third time, thankfully some SSG who has been running at her this whole time gets to her and grabs her by the wrist finally stopping her.
if that had been a Joe it would have been a field grade and a reduction in rank, I bet she still got a Bronze Star at the end of her tour.

M9A3 should have been the gun. It's the all around cheaper alternative and still has a bit of class for Officers.

There is nothing "gentleman" about a glock. It's a good gun for SF because SF actually needs to do transitions from Rifle to Pistol where a safety isn't needed. For the rest of the Army, you're just ASKING for ND's.

This man knows the truth.

The officers lost their M9s on several occasions and we had a least 3 instances where they had NDs, point by point what he described. Rack fire, repeat. Then of course EVERYONE had to go through remedial clearing procedure training... You're dealing with the lowest common denominator in the military. The Beretta is just complex enough to guard from idiocy and just simple enough that even officers can figure out how to use them. Shooting them on the other hand is a different story... But I digress... Unless you're infantry, everyone forgets how to use their weapon after AIT and more or less Forest Gumps their way through the quals throughout the year, and god help us all when you try to teach them to use a new weapon system... However the military is probably guiltiest of poor maintenance of their inventory resulting in a weapon covered in rust, pitting, and wear so much so that it can't shoot straight at 7 yards... But at the end of the day, fuck it, they can just get more...

>carried it in a blackhawk serpa that wasn't even made for that model gun so the lock didn't secure it and it would just fall out randomly
