why can't russia s-duct?

Apparently, they decided that radar blocker is a better option to meet their requirements.
>>
>>31510810
Daily reminder that Pak-fa is a sensor node first, stealth fighter distant second. Russia couldn't go from no stealth aircraft straight to a full stealth fighter. Pak-fa stealth features are for R&D purposes; operationally, pak-fa survivability comes from the IADS, which it patrols and feeds data to.

>>
>>31510959
When you're outmatched in the air as badly as Russia is, that's just how the cookie crumbles. You've got to work the everloving shit out of your home field advantage. Nobody is afraid of the old clunkers, and there are too few new planes to carry the weight. So long as they proliferate IIR terminal seekers, two ton missiles booking Mach 6 are always gonna be scary. Compared to building a real fleet of competitive 5the gen fighters, making IR MRAAMS and SAM's is dead easy. They're banking on using the multi-band signal processing to steer IRSTs in the air and on land, trying to give some way from dated forces to couter the new shit.

How else do you expect to maintain parity against forces that are either decades ahead of you or many times your size? Even if your birds are returning from successful missions unharmed, there is as much danger in having your airbases bombed out as there is in losing jets in action. Russian airporwer can't defend their hangars while chasing down the enemy without support. Air defense formations provide persistent spheres of area denial that Russian planes use as strong points to fly counter-SEAD from.

MiG never directly stated anything about Skat since then. I suppose it is safe to say Sukhoi is completely revamping the project since it was transferred to them. The most recent mention was in an interview with MiG CEO, he said that they did develop some designs together with TsAGI and that it is not some internal enthusiastic endeavor. I.e. it is funded by government. Since Sukhoi and MiG are essentially parts of UAC I think the work is in progress.

Sukhoi's patent of the T-50's stealth features cites an average RCS of the aircraft of approximately 0.1-1 square meters.[83]

You're off by two or three orders of magnitude.
>>
>>31511023
The US built the very first supersonic forward swept wing aircraft back in 1984, we've also been dicking around with 3D thrust vectoring since the 1980's as well. Been flying the tech demonstrators for years and honestly if the Soviet Union had shit the bed so damn hard we might have had a reason to put some of that tech in service. Things just kind of get put on the back burner when the reason for your tremendous military budget takes a big angry shit in it's pants and dies on day.

Now the only thing left is to present some other VLO aircraft RCS for comparison. Oh wait, none such stats were officially stated on behalf of F-22 or F-35.

They want to control their intakes and not tear them apart on supersonic speeds
F-15SE according to Boeing has same frontal RCS as F-35, and it does not have s-ducts. Same shit with F-32 which had not S-duct but was stealthy enough.
Russians were always ahead in math and aerodynamic (US had better engines). They tried S-ducts in Su-47, they have their reasons to not to use them in T-50. Welp, you can see by yourselve how better T-50 at flying than F-35, which can't even use supercruise. (inb4 hurr durr it can but with empty fuel tanks, with no weapon and only with special flying pattern, vatniks BTFO)
