>not resistant to 12.7mm fire from all directions
>>31509764
The MI-24 is not resistant to 12.7mm from all directions.
It got protection covering the pilots seat and wall, thick bulletproof glass on the front and armor around the engine and the troop compartment.
There are however areas that are not coverd and thus not protected against 12.7mm fire which results hinds not being resistant to 12.7mm fire from all directions.

From the perspective of ground units, where would they have to hit to down on of them?

lol
>implying

Everywhere but hitting the area where the pilots is located would disrupt thier ability to focus and fight etc. They however wear heavy ballistic helmets and in afghanistan they wore body armor covering the torso and shoulders, maybe the neck IIRC.

>It's totally the U.S. military guys, not a bunch of Famas G1 wielding gene therapy mercenaries.
>>31509968
But that woudln't bring it down right? Maybe knock it out for the fight (if the pilot survives that is)
>>31509996
Dunno, alot of factors are involved.
The fastest way to bring it down is with alot of heavy machine gun fire, Manpads and good ol RPG's.
The Mujuhaideen found out that the fastest way to take down a Mi-24 Hind early in the Soviet-Afghan war was with a normal RPG but it did have some risk since the chance to injure the operator depending on how he held it and what angle he fired it was high. They did however modify it with a piece of metal that would protect the user from the black blast since it redirected the blast away from the users legs.

hunting Mi-24s with RPGs is operator as fuck

Are there any western variants of the hind? as in the same size and role?
>>31510276
Not really, the closest thing to a Western Hind would be MH-60L DAP.

Metal Gear (NES and MSX) it doesn't specify what guns the bad guys used, but it had a Hind (MSX version only).
Metal Gear 2 had the Hind as well, but according the translated manual, they used Steyr Augs and M67s.
In MGS1 they used Famas rifles and had an SOCOM .45 in the armories, as well as American Claymores, Stinger, M67 grenades, and an M1 Abrams. In the ninja cutscene where he kills a bunch of guards (it's a ghost!), one of the dead guys is holding a SOCOM as well.
You're right about MGS2. That's because the sentries are Russian mercenaries led by a butthurt Russian who initially wanted to use Metal Gear to restore the old Soviet Union...or something irrelevant like that nut Ocelot kills him at the end of the Tanker chapter and steals Ray anyways.
MGS3 is understandable because it's espionage in Soviet territory. In MGS4 the paramilitary was using what looks like a SCAR-H and Strikers while the "good" guys you're pretending to fight with used AKs and RPGs (in chapter 1) and G3s (Chapter 2).
Generally speaking, bad guys usually have Russian gear, especially AKs. Kojima did mix it up though.
