ACOG master race report in
In the Old Corps, we shot with iron sights and we liked it.

And that's fine but on my 5.56 rifle fixed power works fine as I'm not going to be firing at great range.
>>31508354
Yea, in the Old Corps you shined your boots too. Its not like the 4x magnification makes much of a difference.
>>31508499
Not with 5.56 faggot. Max point target is 500m while area target is 800m; and you sure as shit don't need an ACOG if you're an OK shot
>I was under so much stress in boot that I qual'd sharpshooter
At least I didn't get pizza box though. Expert now

TA44S-G with TRijicon MM02 mount
I have since ditched the RMR on this one. This style mount of ACOGs without bosses on the eyepiece is no good. The ring just kills too much peripheral vision.
TA11F-G, nothing special here
Does anybody own an Elcan Spectre? Interested to get thoughts.

>killflash on ACOG
it's useless to have that, unless you have a suppressor too
i mean, why hide your scope glance while the enemy can still see your muzzle flashes?
>>31510047
It does have a suppressor, too. That is a TA648MGO-M240, which leaves the factory with a killflash. I wouldn't have spent a buck on it otherwise, and I don't have them on any other optics.

Has anyone here tried doing the occluded aiming trick with the ACOG indoors? How did that turn out? Is it viable to put an ACOG on your home defense gun and leave the cap on?
>>31510977
I am rather pleased with it. I like to use the gun for the "rifle" (open class) portion of steel shoots, and it offers a very distinctive advantage in speed over iron sights, even at trivial ranges where magnification is absolutely unnecessary. Trijicon has since discontinued all of the "Special Ring" ACOGs like that one, though they can still be found. I like how they "had" a thorough series of very purpose-built mounts for every application.

What is this?
>>31511065
:)
>>31511051
I thought the BAC was when you were superimposing while able to see through the scope. Occluding is when you cover the front of your scope.
I've just heard about the ACOG reticle washing out in dim light so I was wondering if covering the front wouldn't fix that at close-quarters ranges.
>>31511173
I want my SBR to be just like that.
>>31511161
Rather than the ACOG forging having a protrusion out the bottom to attach a mount to, they machine a semi-circle under the objective, and have two bosses on the sides that screws pass through to a mount. You can effectively mount it lower to a surface than any other type of mount.
I thought the special rings were pure genius, and I own several of them. Sadly, Trijicon has discontinued them, as well as all of the mounts. You can still get that same magnification/body_style ACOG though nowadays. For example, that TA26SG pictured that we originally talked about is now the AT44-C.
>>31511177
Yeah my bad, hadn't heard of Occluding, just had a read on it.
We use ACOGs at work and most cunts tape over about half of the fiber optics to stop the washout.
As for close range, instinctive shooting baby.
>>31511225
>As for close range, instinctive shooting baby.
Maybe for mil/LE, but for home defense any miss is a potential manslaughter/murder charge after it flies across the street and stops in little Jenny's bed.
Am I wrong about this?
>>31511286
You'd be surprised how accurate you can be, especially with a bit of practice mate
>>31511089
wrong elcan boyo :3
>>31511218
>I thought the special rings were pure genius
But why?
>You can effectively mount it lower to a surface than any other type of mount.
Why is this desirable? Better cheek weld? Less muzzle flip?
I have not used an ACOG before but am interested in getting one, don't take this as me being an asshole, I'm just trying to learn.
>>31511301
So you don't even need sights on your rifle then if it's just for home defense?
Or mount whatever ranged option you want and don't use it when shooting indoors?
>>31511358
Mount a close range optic on it if you can, but if you must mount whatever ranged option you want and don't use it when shooting indoors
>>31511309
Well, let's take this piece-of-shit SBR of mine as an example. I wanted to put an ACOG on it, because I love them so much. Trijicon happens to make an ACOG mount to specifically attach a special-ring ACOG right to an HK-style firearm. The alternative with a traditional ACOG would be to get a picatinny rail claw mount to first attach to the firearm. From there, I would need to attach an ACOG mount to the rail, and then attach the ACOG to that mount. That setup would have extra intermediary parts, more screws that could potentially come loose and shift around, as well as extra mass, weight, cost, and height. Having the special-ring ACOG and a proprietary mount eliminates some of these intermediary parts, and keeps the optic at a low height for ideal cheek weld.
>tfw after going to variable optics I will never be able to appreciate fixed optics again
>>31510047
Do you think before you say things?
>>31511379
So do you use the close range optic with instinctive shooting? I guess I'm a bit confused.
Opinion on the donut sight version?
I kinda liked it
>>31510047
Enemy might see a light reflecting from it when its dark. It also helps to keep the lens clean and out of getting scratched

When you become rich Commiefornia gun laws don't mean shit.
Mfw people who will never see combat spend $1300 on an optic for their $900 rifle. $100 See-All sight ftw.

It has seen better days.
Ive owned it for 9 years.

>>31515525
This is a stupid meme. What are you going to put on a $3000 SCAR 17 or a $1500 Tavor? Are you going to stick with a $600 aimpoint or a ~$2500 Mark 8?
This might be true in a very very narrow set of circumstances but it's pretty dumb as rules of thumb go. A $700 durr rifle is going to be as well served by a $500 Nikon as a $2000 Nightforce. If you have an AI AX338 and the skill to apply it at great distance, then sure you can go nuts and buy a ~$12000 Zeiss but that's not even remotely true for your average shooter and makes for a shitty rule of thumb.
>>31508160
Hey OP I have one of these. What's a good guide to zero it? I played with the knobs and I can't remember how it was originally so now I shoot all over the fucking place.
>>31515278
I have a decade old one, too. Do the fiber optics normally do this with age? I haven't beat mine up at all, and mine shows the same amount of cracking. Like yours, it is as bright as ever in daylight (tritium likely half as bright, with 12.5 half life), but it has cracked just like yours.
>>31515511
$700 and it is yours
>>31515798
Yeah every one of the older ones that have seen use and been in the sun. The pipe cracks. Very clear plastics are not immune to UV.
Ive seen them fixed with plastic repair liquid. The kind that people use to fix sxratched glasses.
>>31511065
Why did you hang your rifle in a patch of poison ivy?
>>31515646
its more like if you only have $3600 to spend, then you cant afford a scar 17
>>31515986
By your logic, I shouldn't put a $600 Aimpoint H1 on a ~$1000 AR.
Right tool for the right job, fuckstick. Cost has nothing to do with it. My ~$2000 Leupold Mark 6 is much better than my ~$400 Primary Arms 1-6 ACSS and quite a bit better than my ~$1000 Bushnell Elite Tactical but the Bushnell does just fine on my ~$1400 DDM4 (which used to sport the ACSS without me feeling like my life was in shambles).
There are plenty of great budget optics out there and most people (who aren't generally shooting at things 300+m away) aren't going to be bothered one way or the next if their light transmission and clarity are less than ideal.
This is the same idiot argument that insists an Atlas bipod is worlds better than a Harris and Harris is useless. Is the Atlas better? Yes. No question. Is the Harris still perfectly functional for 90% of rifle owners? Also yes.
Spend all you want, but don't pretend that incremental quality improvements over cheaper alternatives justify denigrating anything less than the ideal setup.
>>31516180
how do you survive with such low intelligence?
>>31516246
The point was the meme that your optic should cost more (twice as much) as your rifle was valid in some literal sense. It is not. Price is a stupid yardstick by which to measure anything, especially quality and suitability.
>>31516330
yeah, no that wasnt the point at all, how many points did your recruiter have to add to your asvab to make the minimum?
>>31516355
Ok, Laureate. What great sweeping concept were you attempting to convey?
>>31515918
Obviously so no one would steal it.
