Theoretically one that moves with the bolt can catch on things and hit you, but people have been using AKs with reciprocating charging handles for decades without much complaint. So is there any real difference in terms of reliability between Gen M2 and Gen M3 Magpul mags?

Or is it all a matter of comparability for a few extra rifles? Because I'm already going to have 20 M2's and 20 PSA GI mags, the latter in the event I decide to go full retard and buy a SCAR 16 or HK416 or something.

Basically the majority is just that the M3 mags allow you to be compatible with other STANAG compliant rifles, like the SCAR, SA80, HK416, etc. Like the old EMAG used to do.

As for any extra improvements that increase reliable feeding in a regular AR-15 platform, I'm not too sure.
