Played through Homefront 2. Fun game, but ran like ass.

Tried the Call of Chernobyl mod. It's what Stalker should have been, but the game design choices show their age, particularly with the bullet sponge mutants.

Guys please, with all this shitflinging over BF1 we can at least appreciate some good old fashion no-man's-land simulator. The only problem I have with Verdun though is the regenerating health, maybe if they did what RO2 does and give soldiers bandages for non-lethal wounds they can patch up before they bleed out would make the game totally ace with me.

MoH and Warfighter were decent
>>
Love me some old Clancy shit, including the PC versions of GRAW

Btw is Splinter Cell /k/ approved?
>>
>>31505247
Advance war fighter was shit in my opinion.

Had some neat mechanics and features. (Like how you ditched your mag, could see fire selection, round in the chamber you can dire mid reload)

But the AI were underperforming, I didn't feel like your teammates really did anything. And the meta like the original ghost recon was high caliber scoped weapons. You can solo entire levels with just the M21.

Feel like in war fighter 2 they made your squad feel more "there" but still felt like the AI needed some serious work. To be fair the game is old as shit now.
>>
Been playing a lot of the BF2 revival I wish they had never combined the classes
>>
>>31511276
MoH reboot was decent. I've not played warfighter, but I do know that people hate it (don't know why though).
>>
>>31511327
MoH reboot was indeed god tier fix for singleplayer pretend-operating.
>>
>>31511321
AI was always shit in these games, in the first GRAW (at least on PC), you mostly use your AI team mates to draw fire

In 2 they were pretty good but 2 had massive fucking issues with gun emplacements going full rainbow six 1 and it made the last mission unbearable

console variants are just TPS games, kinda fun tho
>>
>>31511327
>(don't know why though).

Because its just a bunch of set pieces and they aren't even fun like the call of duty set pieces. Fucking BF3/4 campaign is better
>>
>>31511348
You ever see the PS2 version of advance war fighter?

I can't believe they made 3 completely different versions of the same game.
>>
>>31511391
I think they rushed a ps2 version because it was still 2006
>>
speaking of odd versions, ps2 version of Splinter Cell Double Agent is a completely different game, and oddly enough, its generally considered to be way way better.

Same as Quantum of Solace, on ps2 its a full third person shooter compared to then-next gen versions. And its fucking awesome.
>>
>>31511418
that's because the devs of chaos theory were assigned the ps2 version for some reason, while pc/ps3 was handled by the guys that made pandora, no idea what the purpose of this was when logically it should have been the other way around

also aside from some extra co-op missions xbox og version of double agent is better than ps2, even has proper widescreen
>>
>>31511418
I played pS2 double agent with no idea of the next gen versions.

Funny enough I enjoyed ps2 much more.

Double agent on Steam uses all the ps2 pictures, yet is the next gen version. Pretty confusing senpai
>>
>>31511391
That how porting back in the day worked. They'd just make a new a game and call it the same. GRAW was an early last gen multiple plat, so it not that weird that they'd still do that instead of a straight port.

>>
>>31508029
I took the Barrett and camped on a hill 3 miles away. Sure, you could only carry 3 mags, but that just made me get extremely accurate.
>>
>>31511327
the singleplayer was ok but forgettable. MP had content issues because mid development the devs go a C&D or something because the advisors were breaching OPSEC with what equipment was being allowed to be shown to the public or something. Mechanically the game was fun though, and Home Run was really the saving grace of the game. I like to believe thats what inspired rainbow six siege's game design philosophy.

You will never have to rebuke your overly-sensitive Finn hacker to get his shit together because he can't be spooked by bloodsuckers when you needed that lab door open five mintues ago.

I dont hate new games for being new but i am not gonna be oblivious to its flaws. After playing X com remake 1 and 2 i can surely tell you that the original one still kicks much more ass, and the xenonauts/ UFO Alien invasion indie game modernize what needs to be remade of that game.

Skyrim melee combat its just shitty.

My favourite moment in CCII was playing as the germans agains the brits, fighting them on a large open field. A ton of them were entrenched in a huge ditch and any attempt to assault them got me shot up by machinegun fire.

So what I did was have my machinegunners pin them down while a lone dude with a flammenwerfer painstakingly crept closer. Eventually he got into firing range and filled the whole fucking ditch with napalm, sending screaming soldiers running up from the infernal pit only to be mowed down by mg42's.

You're just a terrible cunt mate. They're amazing games.

Which version did you play?

The most recent ones from Matrix are quite good. Especially the new games written from ground up, Gateway to Caen was outstanding, but Panthers in the Fog quite buggy.

I'm really excited for the newest release, the campaign in Tunisia, which will be the first game that I'm aware of that takes on this forgotten theater.

You should really try Gateway to Caen.

It improves on the original CC2 so damn much. It's so smooth and seamless, the sounds so convincing and the maps so well drawn, you'll love it.

Plus a lot of cool Brit weapons, like various Churchills, flame tanks, German heavies of course and some amazing weapon sounds.

The ones I recommend:

CC: Last Stand Arnhem (basically a remake of CCII)

Mod suggestions for X Com 2.

>Stop Wasting My Time
Absolutely essential. There are a bunch of odd little pauses in the game that feels like lag, really fucks with the pace of combat. As in, a soldier will aim, wait a moment, shoot, wait a moment, then give a speech line about hitting or missing and go back to cover. This gets rid of that.

>True Concealment
The concealment mechanic in the game is pretty cool, but a lot of missions have timers that start running even with you in concealment, not giving you enough time to make use of it. this makes the timed missions not start counting down until you go loud, giving you the time to set up firing positions and an incentive to sneak a bit to get closer to the objective.

>Capnbubs accessory pack
amazingly awesome pack of various character customization things, get it, professional stuff.

>MGSV BDU pack
More of the same, great cold war rebel soldier feel to it, good for starter level uniforms in the early game.

Beyond that there are a metric ton of weapons and armor cosmetic mods that I use, and other mods that add a lot of new gameplay mechanics and enemies. I also suggest looking into some of the map mods which add in more map layouts for the tactical missions, giving more variety.

Silent Storm, modded, but still horribly flawed.

Pros:
The scale, with these figures, and buildings.
Turn-based.
WWII
You can collect weapons.
Role-playing elements with experience, and improvement.
Destructible environment.
Motion-captured movement is evident in figures climbing and jumping.

Cons:
AI waddling into danger.
Stealth and spotting system is broken.
Weapon handling with two guns at the ready.
Inventory system.
Weapon stats and calibers.
Weapon magazine handling.
Dieselpunk elements.
Special condition maps.
Inadequate play testing of maps.

I just want a nice, turn-based, tactical, WWII game.

Cuban Missile Crisis: The Aftermath

Hard as fuck until you realize all you have to do is turn the speed up and rush in the tanks on offense, or sit still and let the enemy rush blindly into your defenses, then counter attack while on defense, and don't get me started on when you get access to fighter-bombers.

Still, I can't think of any other game that has a faction as cool as the Franco-German Alliance. Panzer IV's, Panthers, Hanomags, Jagdpanthers, Hetzers mixed into modern Leopard 1 or Challenger formations.

Has some cool eleents. Such as a need to keep ammunition and fuel trucks on standby, you fight to hold resource zones to keep your army in supply, infantry were not automatically killed just because they fell and could be rescued by medical teams and you had to use Radiation clean up crews to clean wasteland in order to move your armor through overlooked gaps in the enemy lines.

Wow okay /k/

So I downloaded this scenario, hunter 6.
You lead a squad of navy seals into a rebel infested area, looking for 2 missing CIA spooks.

It's bretty neat because you can:
>Change your loadout
>Pick what guys you want
>Pick your own LZ, route, exfil route
>Decide what you want to do and when
>interrogate locals (kinda boring but meh)
>Legit have to navigate if you don't play on babby difficulty.
>Get intel on weapon cache locations, rebel sympathizers you can arrest and other such things
>Randomly run into a rebel patrol or vehicle.

It was pretty neat the other night when I was leading an 8 man squad on a string of meet and greet stops to the locals when I ran into 2 technicals with very large fuckyou-type machine guns mounted. We took them down as silently as we could, and detonated the vehicles.

Then I got to the guy that lived near where the vehicles were, so of course I got a little rough with him, turns out he had a map with an AA location on it, so I arrested and extracted his ass, and blew up his faggy car.

The rest was pretty boring, little intel, gained some reputation with the locals, and extracted without much more noise.

I know it's a really minor nitpick, but that just makes me even less hyped. Never mind the fact that there was barely any combat and the infantry combat seemed rather damage-spongey. Granted, the guy said the enemies were heavily armored and we don't know how weak the player's guns are compared to the rest of the game's gear.

Still, though:

actually, mark hamill was signed on to do voice work for SC in the single player portion; Squadron 42.

I personally would have to actually see the finished product before getting hyped though. I'm already not too hyped becuase the game will force you to play FPS portions, even if the single player campaign.

Chris Roberts fucked up so many projects I'm surprised people are throwing tens of thousands of dollars at him. I think a lot of people don't know that he nearly sunk freelancer.
>>
>>31514645

Whatever happened with later games Metal Gear Solid and Snake Eater are solid gold.

My last playthrough was

>Extreme
>Soviet weapons only
>Destroy every object or room that you can plant TNT on
>Shoot down all Hinds
>Eliminate all Soviet personnel encountered
>Eliminate every scientist on screen during the Granin Design Bureau and Groznygrad
>Fight the Ocelot Team instead of the End
>No cheesing The Boss with snow camo and kabuki paint

It was difficult and not very stealthy but it was a blast and I recommend it to anyone who is bored of the game. Playing it as an ambush predator changes the flow of alot of rooms in the game; doing the Granin lab without any concern about stealth completely changes it.

Just be ready to get bored when you meet The Sorrow that shit takes forever.

Oh fuck me. This was my first PC game too. I wanted so badly to be a fighter pilot all of my childhood. This game, and the Roald Dahl memoir "Going Solo" are what did it for me. I still remember telling my mom when I broke 5 kills and became an "ace" back in 1994 at six years old.

This hit me right in the feels.

Pick up Game Rangers and Delta Force Black Hawk Down servers are still running

You can pirate Unreal Tournament 1999 and still have access to their online servers.

how about allied assault or COD1? you dont need servers, you can just use direct connect (ie any anon could host as long as he states the server name or IP)

I just loved spilling people's guts out in SoF with the shotgun.
SoF 2 also had good times, especially in MP, but the gore wasn't quite as shocking by then even though they stepped it up bigtime with body part separations.
Webm related. I really had to dig deep in my old, old, incredibly oldschool files from when I was probably barely getting into highschool.

Just left the realism group I was in for nearly 3 years. Looking for a new one that fits with my work and thinking of going to a US group because of my late work hours.

Pic is a map that was distributed by me to Squad, Platoon and Company leads before a game, pre-sighted mortar targets, the ACE mod makes mortars so much more fun than point and click vanilla. Rounds out in about 10 seconds from request and clearance, calling splash 5-40 seconds later, explosions 5 seconds after splash... Was a good night.

Some of the funnest stuff I have done in ArmA has been during a 60 vs 60 game between my old group and a Finnish group.
>Fighting against Russians in Ukraine
>Hiding innawoods because Hind is overflying our position in support of Mech and Mot squads >Full infantry platoon advancing through thick woodland against us
>Friendly BMP is destroyed on first overpass, one crewman bails and survives the cannon fire (he's important later)
>Mined a checkpoint and abandoned it as a lure
>Enemy BMP on left flank with it's dismounts, murders SAM team and kills our hope of the Hind being brought down
>BTR with 8 inside, 8 on roof and full crew charges down the road to the checkpoint
>Hits my AT mine
>8 bodies fly 100 feet in the air just as the crewman arrives
>BMP and squad pushing down on us, use RPG-7 with PG-7VR and blow the BMP to high heaven
>Fire as many grenades from a scavenged AKM with GP-30 and hose a mag in their general direction
>Crewman mag dumps and throws smokes
>GTFO
>Repeat harassing tactics twice more
>Third try, 2 v 4...
>Flanked
>2 v 15
>Cut down in crossfire after dumping 4 mags each and tossing frags
>BEST EXPERIENCE EVER HAD LOSING IN A GAME
