Very. Plush everywhere.
>>
not very. Unless you like playing vidya in your off hours from a TV velcroed to the top of your bunk in your tiny ass room you share with another person.
>>
>>31500821
I don't think any sub has ever reached the comfiness level of Typhoons.
>>
depends on the size of your bunkmates cock
>>
Can crew bring board games along?
>>
>>31501683

That's probably for officers and the captain, regular enlisted will be in triple stacked bunks.
>>
>>31501839

nah. typhoons are so huge they had bullshit rec rooms thrown in to fill spaces because the had more room than they needed for equipment. the even had a small pool.
>>

You can't make this shit up.

just in case anyone forgets about water
>>
>>31501839
They are for enlisted aswell. Typhoons operate on very different principles to any other submarine I'm aware of. They are designed as weapons of vengeance. They are comfy as hell since in case of a nuclear exchange they will dive and remain submerged for up two years after which they will surface and release their nuclear payload against the presumed enemy which was and still is US.
>>
>>31502118

Why not fire the payload first and *then* dive and wait until the shitstorm passes?
>>
>>31502139
Cause he's talking shit
>>
finland isn't allowed to have subs :((((((((
>>
>>31502139
Because they way I understand it (I might be wrong on aswell) is that diving happens immediately after the sub loses contact with naval bases and/or Moscow. They will spend the time before striking back at US trying to re-establish contact to friendly forces.

Or this is what I've heard. As I said: Unlike any other sub I'm aware of.
>>
>>31502198
What "you've heard" (made up) is all wrong.

Why would we need one? The baltic sea isn't that deep really.

It'd be cool though but lets be realistic.
>>
>>31502210
Please enlighten me then oh thou who art so knowing!

Yes. I heard it from a Russian sailor.
>>
>>31502232
Of course you did
>>
>>31502220
but imagine a finnish nuclear sub with a sauna
>>
>>31502240
Then would you please enlighten me? Do you have some sort of authority on the matter or what?
>>
>>31502177
Why? It's the first time I heard of.
>>
>>31502118
1) Submarines dive as soon as they leave port. They don't stay on the surface because then everyone can see them, which defeats the purpose of a submarine.

2) No submarine can stay underwater for two years.

3) No submarine is going to wait two years to attack a target which its country is probably not going to be at war with at that point, what the hell makes you think that's a viable tactic.
>>
>>31502260
Take ten seconds of your life to look something up instead of demanding to be spoon fed you pathetic bitch
>>
>>31502277
Thank you.

This makes kind of more sense than what I understood about the ramblings of a drunken sailor.

>>31502277

I don't think that the two years is accurate. Food provisions, even onboard a sub that size would limit how long they could stay.

But I have read that the Typhoon was meant as a second strike platform in case the Russian command and retaliatory structure was wiped out in a preemptive attack. Their job was to wait under the artic ice caps for months if not a year, and then pop up and deliver their weapons.

I guess they thought that in the event of preemptive strike all hunter killer subs would be prowling hard in the area ready to put down a boomer getting ready to throw it's payload so maybe it was best to wait until things died down?
>>
>>31502312
Not a submarine that can stay underwater for two years?
>>
>>31502333
Second strike means you hit after you've been hit.

It doesn't mean you wait, especially when all waiting does is increase the chance of you being found and destroyed.

This idea that they wait for months is utterly nonsensical.

>>
>>31502337
HMS Artful can stay underwater for up to 25 years without surfacing – its nuclear reactor only needs serviced once per quarter-century, and the submarine can produce breathable air and water from the sea around it.

again .... IT CAN ... but them pesky humans ruin all the fun
>>
>>31502358
This doesn't need a random tripfag, it's fucking common sense.
>>
>>31502346
It was designed by the Soviets. Are you really willing to put words 'Soviet' and 'sense' together?
>>
>>31502362
Oh I see, you're being retarded. You're also ignorant of the fact that despite the nuclear reactor not needing fuelling every single other part of the submarine still needs maintenance.
>>
>>31502362
It only needs to be refueled once every 25 years. It needs to be serviced a hell of alot more often than that. Shit's going to start breaking with no way to replace it without visits to port for maintenance and resupply.
>>
>>31502376
Because you have a stupid preconception of somewhere you don't like doesn't make it correct.
>>
>>31502358
Opp took his trip off..........he's an anon now
>>
>>31502378
the only one being retarded here is you, taking this way too seriously.

and yes, it would need maintenance. but saying in worst case scenario. maybe with the smallest crew possible... a sub could stay down for 2 years.
>>
>>31502275
Probably a disarmament thing after ww2
>>
>>31502398
>I wasn't being serious gosh geez

Ah, the last excuse of the ignorant
>>
>>31502409
Same reason they're not in NATO despite being one of the countries the Russians would invade first, they can't risk antagonising Russia.
>>
>>31502409
But wasn't Finland more like an Allied Forces country? I'm from Germany and we have submarines. May in limited numbers, but we're allowed to.
>>
>>31502420
>still taking this too seriously
>>
>>31502390

I'm the guy you originally replied to.

You're an asshole, and no fun. Was merely discussing shit and you decide to be a dick. Stay a fucking friendless virgin shitdick.
>>
>>31502409
That's exactly the case. Soviets didn't like the idea of Finns having subs capable of blockading Leningrad harbor. Russia while telling everybody they are not responsible for anything Soviets did demands that Finland keeps its end of disarmament treaty made with Soviets.
>>
>>31502430
It's not a WWII disarmament thing, it's a "we don't want to piss off Russia" thing
>>
>>31502249

As an ex RN Submariner I can say you are being extremely optimistic, shit breaks all the time and needs maintenance alongside or even replacing, 2 years without something serious breaking is extremely unlikely. We once had both desalination plants go at the same time and were eating off tin foil plates to save water.

Sweden has had tons of subs in the baltic sea, so Id say its reasonable for Finland to have one or two if they want to.

That being said the threat to Finland hasnt involved naval landings to the extent it has to Sweden.

Probably not two years, but waiting to attack many months after a nuclear exchange is a viable tactic. You can hit your enemy right as their recovery operations are hitting their stride.
>>
>>31507489
No it's pointless because you have no idea what you're attacking

Their job as to go in sea and launch the missiles if shit hits the fan. not to "wait for years under the ice". Your understanding of the second strike is completely wrong.

air ducts are handy storage spaces.

Brother was on the USS Groton(LA Class) back in the 90s. They stopped in Puerto Rico for shore leave on the way back from a cruise in the Med. hundreds of bottles of rum were purchased and stowed where ever they could be crammed.

Pulled into Portsmouth navy yard in Maine. Boat is to be decommissioned. Some admiral is doing an inspection of the boat before we take her to be torn down. Some seamen forget their rum bottles in various places on the ship. Admiral keeps finding them. the bottles just keep getting lined up on top of the ship. Entire ship's company is in formation on the dock next to the ship. Everyone thinks the admiral and the captain are going to scream and yell and cause trouble. Admiral says something like "look at all this contraband I found", "well sailors will be sailors", "we're drinking it tomorrow afternoon before the 4 day weekend".

Those treaties don't mean jack shit anyway. We buy all the tanks we want, we have cruise missiles now, etc. It's a mix of political consideration and lack of necessity. The Finnish coast is not very viable for large-scale amphibious operations and those places that could be landed at the ones that are protected.
