I dare you to say something positive about the Mosin-Nagant.

Nightmare Mode: Without mentioning price, whether of the rifle itself or ammo.
>>
Mosin a cute
>>
Fun to shoot
>>
Mosin-Nagants are only known to cause cancer in a few US states.

That's about the best I can do.
>>
>>31499619
It goes bang when you pull it's trigger
>>
It's a pretty reliable rifle. Decent accuracy too. At least from my experience.
>>
I can cosplay that I'm in WWII and that my life means something when I'm actually just a loser who fantasizes about military conflicts that would make me shit blood in terror
>>
>>31499619
The barrel is usually made of metal, so they last a pretty long time.
>>
>>31499619
I love the action more than any other bolt gun I've used. I can't get enough of slapping it from position to position when loading.
>>
>>31499619
Decent boat oar. Can be used as a javelin. Smells pretty good when you fire it.
>>
They don't break and they do well for a first rifle because of that. Lets newbies get used to using a gun before getting something too nice to fuck up.
>>
one of the stronger bolt guns out there. though i wouldn't call it the strongest.
>>
>>31499619
It goes bang, and if you get hit with a 54r you are going to have a bad time
>>
>>31499619
For being a turn of the century rifle it has been involved in arguably more conflicts than any other platform. Mine is 90 years old and still drives tacks. It has quirks but has been an amazing rifle.
>>
a true peasant's rifle.
>>
The action is strong enough to handle any ammunition fuckup (one's shoulder not so much). Even should rifle no longer function shooter is safe.

Ammunition can be made for it to handle any land beast.

Non-Communist production rifles are ridiculously smooth actioned.

Because fuck you he does what he wants? He killed hundreds of men, you gonna tell him no?

At that, it was very common for that era for military arsenals to sell off surplus rifles and actions to the civilian market, and there was industry to take this surplus and make affordable sporting arms.

In America, there was an entire cottage industry based on buying surplus Krag Jorgensen actions and building sporters out of them, because it was an affordable way to have a bolt-action hunting rifle, for some, a typical factory original kind of sporter would be too expensive, particularly if a sporterized military rifle could be just as good.
Some of these were so well done that they're actually very valuable today.

Sporterizing didn't use to be a bad word, it's more in recent decades when purpose made civilian sporters got more common and affordable, and milsurp becoming less common and affordable (well, it took longer for the Mosin, as it came a bit later and was cheap for much longer, leading to more fuckheads with no sense hacksawing the things and creating unsightly abominations).

I should add that the practice of brazing or welding cartridge conversion sleeves is a bubba practice, a properly sporterized Krag or Arisaka from back in the day would have it's barrel replaced properly if converted to another caliber.
>>
>>31504863
What advantages, if any, does sporterizing provide?

>>
>>31504901
Lighter weight, less bulk, arguably better (personalized) ergonomics, properly fitted scope rings, sleeker profile, a caliber you might prefer more.

If the barrel was free floated or glass bedded, I could see accuracy being better, but I don't know if that was done back then honestly.
>>
>>31499756

my my grandfather had one, and my great grand father. they were both soviet conscripts along with my father and my great grand father and grandfather were considered heroes, at least according to their friends who I had the privilege of speaking to.

it allows me to have a tiny connection with their history.

struggling to hit targets at 50 yards with my shit eyesight makes me realize how hard they struggled against the germans to be able to survive and accomplish enough to be recognized for their service.

on top of being a veteran, my gramps was an engineer. could've designed some sweet firearms but he was forced to work on farming machines by the soviets to benefit the economy.

makes me sad thinking about how I'm just a shitty punk ass bitch compared to the great men in my family, but at least I made their eyes light up when I brought home a rifle they once held so dear.

You shouldn't need a bayonet on to hit something

The mosin nagant is an excelent rifle for hunting because of the iron sights accuracy at long distances.

Best bolt action in existence

it's pretty damn hard to break, it goes bang when you need it to and it doesn't use a pussy cartridge

Was just an 1895 on GB, think it went for like 500, not bad for both 1895 or earlier and Sestroryetsk.

Yeah well maybe if you put up a worthwhile alternative, we wouldn't have to.

I prefer it's bolt over my mausers.

And both are shit compared to my krag.

If you like slapping a Mosin around, you might like a straight-handle Mauser.

Laminated stock and obligatory peripherals you mentioned. $97 after tax. It was a good day.

It's a war relic.

That's about all it has going for it, and really the only reason I own one.

My mosin is the largest caliber gun I own, next to my marlin 30-30, but the 7.62 for some reason has A LOT more bang to it. Where my 30-30 would dent a steel quarter inch plate, my mosin put a ring finger- sized hole clean through it (and I have photo evidence). The fact that all accessories are as simple as bayonet, ammo pouch, cleaning kit, oil can, sling, and stripper clip is really nice since I don't have to constantly hunt for more stuff to get for it, it's all there. The rifle (in my experience) is very accurate, with me being able to hit a one inch steel T girder right on the center showing that. Finally, I like what I can do to give it a cosmetic difference. My buddy and I, after seeing enemy at the gates and Stalingrad (2013), wanted to get some burlap for the rifle and I did just that. I used all WWII era materials (burlap and twine) to put it together and it stays firmly on there and gives it a real nice feel.
